Developers Peabody and Lendlease have awarded the masterplanning contract for their £8bn Thamesmead Waterfront project to a group led by consultants Arup and Prior & Partners.
Peabody and Lendlease formed a joint venture to develop the 100-hectare riverside site in October 2019. Largely undeveloped, the South-East London location is expected to yield around 11,500 new homes as well as commercial and leisure facilities, over a 30-year period.
Bidding for the masterplanning contract opened in October last year and five teams were shortlisted in February.
As well as Arup and Prior & Partners, the winning team includes a broad array of smaller architects, designers and consultants: JA Projects; Sage Culture; The Place Bureau; Alison Brooks Architecture; Mark Koehler Architects; WorkWild; Turner Works; Schulze & Grassov; West 8; Soundings; and the London Wildlife Trust.
