Ashland Select Board unanimously votes to take land for public safety building

ASHLAND — With Town Manager Michael Herbert saying the process can be accomplished amicably, the five-member Select Board voted unanimously Wednesday night to take through eminent domain the 3.82 acres at 12-16 Union St. that will be home for a new $30 million public safety building.
Wednesday’s vote comes after residents at special Town Meeting last month authorized the Select Board to take two parcels through eminent domain and use $500,000 from the town’s capital stabilization account to pay for them. One of the parcels authorized to be taken is the 3.82-acre parcel, and the other comprises 8.5 acres.
