A bridge over troubled water?

Dear Gary,
The drive to our house is accessed via a narrow bridge spanning a section of river and forms part of a designated footpath serving a public park beyond. This access is used by us and any visitors who arrive by car.
Should a vehicle traverse the bridge in order to access our property and in doing so cause either damage or collapse to the bridge, who is responsible? As far as I can see there is no weight limit stated on the bridge.
