David davis is summoned to the house of commons by mps, over his refusal to hand over documents assessing brexits Economic Impact. Thousands of tourists remain trapped on the indonesia island of bali, as a volcano threatens to erupt. Its 5 oclock. Our main story is that pope francis has said in a speech in myanmar that all ethnic groups should be respected, but he notably failed to refer to the countrys persecuted rohingya minority there are hundreds of thousands of refugees camped here in squalor and desperation. The camping behind me behind this shelter, there are many more all huddled together very close together and they are all looking to World Leaders to highlight their plight. But hope frances today, although he did talk about the need for ethnic harmony and four ethnic groups to be respected, he appeared to follow catholic leaders in myanmar and indirectly direct the address the refugees. It is it is possibly Pope Franciss most sensitive trip, to a country whose powerful military stands accused of ethnic cleansing. Myanmar, a majority buddhist country, today keen to show off its cultural and Ethnic Diversity as he arrived alongside Aung San Suu Kyi. At previous public occasions, she has failed to acknowledge the widespread human rights abuses against Myanmars Rohingya people. With some military leaders listening, not an admission this time but a nod to what has been going on in rakhine state. As we address long standing issues, social, economic and political, that have eroded trust and understanding, harmony and cooperation between different communities in rakhine, the support of our people and of good friends who only wish to see us succeed in our endeavours has been invaluable. From pope francis, no mention of the rohingya. Instead, a more subtle plea. Translation the future of myanmar must be peace, a peace based on respect for the dignity and rights of each member of society, respect for each ethnic group and its identitty. In recent weeks, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have fled over the border into bangldesh. Their stories chilling women raped, children killed. Labours baroness uddin was recently there. I think whats happening is beyond human endurance. I hope his holiness the pope will understand the magnitude of Aung San Suu Kyis complicity to this. The pope would never criticise a leader in public, the expectation that their conversation in private will have been more frank about a people who are suffering and dying. Well, and i spoke to our correspondentjonathan well, and i spoke to our correspondent jonathan who is well, and i spoke to our correspondentjonathan who is in a myanmar and correspondentjonathan who is in a myanmarandi correspondentjonathan who is in a myanmar and i asked him how significant it was that the pope had used the word ranger rohingya. There was so much expectation but on this work, activists and indeed those who had been arguing for proper ignition of the rohingya. It carries so much weight. This is how the rohingya describe themselves. In myanmar, it is a very different view, they do not recognise the stories of horrendous abuses that you are hearing over there in bangladesh, they feel their country has been unfairly attacked and they do not recognise the rohingya, they the message has spread they do not belong. It is a very weighted word. The pope was advised he shouldnt use it. In the end he avoided it. Had he used it, there the have been tensions and angry reactions, especially from ha rd angry reactions, especially from hard line Buddhist Monks who have a big influence here. But he did make much reference to the problems surrounding the rohingya s. You need to include all ethnic groups, all who call this land home. I think people will recognise he was talking about the rohingya s but he has avoided a diplomatic incidents. He is also representing a vulnerable and quite small catholic minority here who were worried about my. Happened to him had there been a negative reaction to the pope is mike blizzard. My colleague that like the pope is mike visits. Here bendy refugee camps you can see its mickey and dusty by night and it is hot and quite oppressive by day. People are crammed into flimsy shelters like the one behind me and they are close together. It is an ideal breeding ground for disease. I went along to one of the clinics here in the refugee camps and spoke to the medics that he was worried about a big rise as they see it in measles. The middle of one of the rangers camps rohingya camps, living in poor sanitation, ideal conditions for disease. Emergency clinics have been coping with a significant rise in the number of cases of measles with over 602 months, the vast majority children. This is the population especially vulnerable to measles. Additionally, we have realised very few of these people have been vaccinated, so when they arrived, they had no protection at all. It is a perfect environment for very rapid spread of the disease. This clinic has seen such a significant rise in the number of measles patients, it has had to open its own unit specifically. I havent had measles, but my colleague has and she will take you inside. She is going into the isolation area where the worst affected patients are kept. Everyone here is underfive. Her ii month old baby is not taking food. She said since yesterday she hasnt breast fed. They are given medication, vitamins a and for the worst cases, medication, vitamins a and for the woist cases, oxygen. Medication, vitamins a and for the worst cases, oxygen. Some have died, but so far most are pulled through. With this crisis still been described as an acute emergency, the fear remains that in these conditions, a more serious disease could take hold. Well, to discuss these conditions in the camps, i am joined by shelley from the world food programme. We have been hearing about a big rise in measles cases. You have been for awhile, would you characterise the conditions here now . Have they changed, have they improve, have they worsened . M now . Have they changed, have they improve, have they worsened . It is a huge concern. Every day the camp changes in every twist and turn. I walked through the camp today with a new arrival and he turned to me and saidi new arrival and he turned to me and said i had no idea there are so many people here. And he said i am worried about where i am going to get food, where i going to get shelter. We already know already know that one in four rohingya children are suffering from malnutrition. The biggest thing we need to do now is act quickly, we need to do now is act quickly, we need to do now is act quickly, we need to get life saving food to children, we need to improve access to toilets for young girls and women. We need clean waterfor children underfive. Women. We need clean waterfor children under five. A women. We need clean waterfor children underfive. A biggest risk to malnutrition already is that these families have gone through so much. They have walked four days, they have reached here with little access to food, they are stressed, they are tired and we need to make sure that we really help them in any way that we can quickly to make sure that things dont get out of control. So much more in the way of the supplies would help a great deal, but it is still the case that you have got over 600,000 people who have come into this area in such a short space of time. How sustainable is this in the medium to long term . This is where we really do need to Work Together with the government of bangladesh and with all the partners here to make sure this mega camp on as people now refer to it, is also. We also look at the Host Community that lives here as well as the new refugees and the registered refugees. 0ne the new refugees and the registered refugees. One of the things wfp is doing is looking at ae voucher system, so that at some point we are scaling up and already we are establishing a cash card where people have the choice to go buy food. We also want to be able to provide skills for them to be able to work in their own homes. It is. We need to get some dignity and give some empowerment back to this community. Many thanks. Well, there you have it. And increasing and continuing need for more food, more supplies, better shelter, but, really, it has to be said, no apparent end to the plight of all the people camped here. Now it is back to you. Thank you. And guest at the in myanmar. The time is 11 minutes past five. Kensington palace has announced details of the wedding of prince harry and Meghan Markle. It will take place at st georges chapel at Windsor Castle next may, with the royal family paying for the wedding. The american actress, who is a protestant, will be baptised and confirmed before the ceremony and will become a british citizen. Simonjones has the details. After the announcement, it is down to the business of planning the wedding, we already knew it was going to be in the spring, but now we have a month for the big day, if not a fan date, may. Kensington palace has announced the venue, st george s chapel within Windsor Castle. The royal family george s chapel within Windsor Castle. The royalfamily will george s chapel within Windsor Castle. The royal family will pay for raw core aspects of the wedding. It is where the aisle and countess of wessex were married. Rich in history but with a sense of intimacy for heresy harry who is fifth in line to the throne. We are so happy, it isa line to the throne. We are so happy, it is a really happy time for any couple couple and we hope they enjoy it. Americas our gain. We are delighted. We are so happy. Sometimes in a climate where we are surrounded by a lot of bad news it isa surrounded by a lot of bad news it is a realjoy to have a bit of good news for once. St george s chapel in windsor is a very special place for harry and megan according to the palace. She intends to become a british citizen and will be baptised and confirmed before the wedding. British citizen and will be baptised and confirmed before the weddinglj think and confirmed before the wedding. think it is fantastic. He is out of the cycle and into someone from united the states. We are from the us, so what we are excited. Yet, it is exciting. Prince harry is awesome and Meghan Markle is really fantastic, so you, it is super exciting. Im absolutely delighted for them. They seem exciting. Im absolutely delighted forthem. They seem in exciting. Im absolutely delighted for them. They seem in love and happy. The couple wants to involve members of the public in the event. Talking about the public being invited, i reckon harry is going to major very much on servicemen, servicemen who have been injured combat. Yet what a great affinity with them, as we have seen in september. So i reckon a lot of them will be there. Prince harry and megan will carry out their First Official engagement together in nottingham on friday. A taste, no doubt come off like to come in the royal family. 0ur correspondent Matthew Thompson is at Windsor Castle. We have heard from people on the street earlier. What else has been said . We have been speaking to people for the last couple of hours and you get the cage occasional nonchalant shrug, but i think for the most part people are delighted. When we broke the news to one lady she went as far as to give us a fist pump. She went as far as to give us a fist pump, so there is a certain amount of excitement. The people of windsor, they know how to celebrate and royal occasion, they have found plenty of practice and im sure they will give it the next shot come next may. The real concern is its bid is quite behind closed doors. You can just about see it behind my shoulder, lit up. It is cordoned off and it is very much a question of how they make it feel like there is public access. You might remember in. The countess of wessex was married here and the royal guests we re married here and the royal guests were bussed in an bust out and it felt divorced from the people, is a bit of real concern whether theyd ticketed what they did. Make people feel like they have access. But we can rely on the people of windsor to give their best shot come may and they fairly excited. Good to talk to you. And he would meet in the studio is camilla, the royal correspondent for the sunday express. What have we learned today . We had learned as a wedding, the babyis we had learned as a wedding, the baby is due in april and i was thinking maybe they would get it out of the way before then before kate has a newborn in tow. I think we will expect george and charlotte to ta ke will expect george and charlotte to take a starring role on the day. Windsor, that makes sense on two fronts, first of all, prince harry spent a lot of time there, educated at eton of the road, and it is the queens favourite royal residence,. It isa queens favourite royal residence,. It is a homecoming for her. Very recently. More low key, you can fit in quite a lot of people, but it is not quite westminster abbey. Maybe that felt too repetitive, simply because of the queen philip and more recently william and kate being married there. They are doing it in their own style. Will the style into the kind of guest list that we expect and what kind of stuff will harry and megan want to put . Interestingly, when william and gate were first presented with a guest list they tore it up and said we do not know how but the people and the queen stepped in and said you have the day you want and im sure prince harry and megan in this modern transatlantic relationship or wa nt modern transatlantic relationship or want their nearest and dearest before heads of state. There is one question, donald trump and whether the guest list will be the president will be on the guest that. That is diplomatically a curious situation for the Commonwealth Office to find themselves in. Megan has been fairly outspoken in her criticism of donald trump. Not least isa criticism of donald trump. Not least is a difficult when they are trying to forge this new post brexit trade. Im just to forge this new post brexit trade. Imjust thinking to forge this new post brexit trade. Im just thinking of the partnership they represent. Looking at the images yesterday which were beamed around the world, seen by hundreds of millions of people, what kind of partnership will this be in royal terms . The kind of work they will put in . How will they present themselves . I think quite ground breaking. What struck me earlier is that shes hitting the ground running, megan. She revealed the interview that she will give up her acting career and start a new chapter. We didnt realise that chapter. We didnt realise that chapter would open on friday in nottingham. Equally, ithought chapter would open on friday in nottingham. Equally, i thought some of the stuff she said in the interview was really interesting, how she wanted to learn more about the commonwealth, music to the queens is surely. Talking about wanting to learn more about britain. It seems she will be to taken on a tour around the uk. She has had a lot of humanitarian endeavours in the past. Involved in the un. That sta rts the past. Involved in the un. That starts now and what the palace has announced today is when she married she willjoin the royal foundation. At the moment the trio of wigan, harry and kate are involved in that charity help. Megan willjoin as a fourth force. Thank you. It 18 minutes passed by, lets have a look at the headlines this evening. Pope francis appeals for tolerance in myanmar after meeting the countrys de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi , but he chooses not to mention the persecuted rohignyas by name. Prince harry and the american actress, Meghan Markle will marry at st georges chapel in windsor in may david davis is summoned to the house of commons by mps, after his refusal to hand over full documents, assessing brexits Economic Impact. I will have more in those stories after half past five. New measures have been announced to try to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries during childbirth. The uk has some of the highest levels of stillbirth and early deaths among small babies in western europe, around 1,000 every year. The Health Secretaryjeremy hunt says all cases of serious harm or death during childbirth in england will in future be independently investigated, as our Health Correspondent Dominic Hughes reports. Losing twins during pregnancy and then having baby hugo very prematurely means rachel understands all too well the challenges childbirth can present. Her experience has taught her that parents and medical staff need to be more aware of when things could go wrong. I think its education of pregnant women to never be afraid to ask questions and raise concerns. And its also the medical establishment in encouraging them to do so and having the staff available to investigate if theyre having problems. I feel i was very well looked after but i know that that is very much a postcode lottery. It depends on your doctor and the Resources Available and i was one of the lucky ones. Now, the Health Secretary in england is announcing rather than hospitals carrying out their own investigations when things go wrong an independent review will be carried out instead. When i talk to parents whose heart has been broken by something that has gone wrong in those very small numbers of cases, what they say is its not about the money, they just want to know that the nhs has learned from what went wrong so that that same mistake isnt ever going to happen again. The uk lags behind many other European Countries when it comes to preventing baby deaths and premature births. There are around nine Stillborn Babies every day. Roughly 50 women still die in england each yearfrom issues related to pregnancy. And around 50,000 babies are born prematurely. At Southmead Hospital in bristol, they have made big advances in reducing harm by learning from those mistakes that can leave babies and mothers with lifelong injuries. Its not really about training for knowledge so much as training for using the right system. I always say, why not make the right way the easy way . Why dont we make it easy for staff to do the right things . But across the nhs, a shortage of staff to provide safe care remains a problem. We have got a real concern about staffing levels. We have been saying there isnt enough midwives for some time. We need more staff and more capacity to safely care for mums and babies. Progress is being made, but there are concerns that difficult lessons are not being learned. The irish deputy Prime Minister has resigned, in a move which means an immediate general election before christmas will now be avoided. Frances fitzgerald was facing a vote of no confidence tonight, after questions were raised about how much she knew about a plan to discredit a Police Whistleblower. The affair had threatened to bring down the fragile deal which kept the fine gael government in power for the past 18 months. 0ur ireland correspondent chris page is in dublin. Was the suspected and what does it now mean for the stability of the government that . Make no mistake, the Irish Government has come pretty close to collapsing today as things turned out it will survive, but it isa turned out it will survive, but it is a weekend and either nobody in dublin would be surprised if there will be a general s election at some stage next year, given how this episode has unfolded. Giving you some of the bad. The gale party is allowed to stay in power because of the special relationship it has with the special relationship it has with the main parties. Boyle has agreed to abstain on votes like the budget. But controversy over the deputy Prime Minister that gerald and questions were raised about a plan of lawyers to discredit a Police Whistle blower in an enquiry. The Third Largest party here put down a motion of no confidence and. Also said they put down a motion of no confidence in her, it would have meant the government fell and we we re meant the government fell and we were into a general Election Campaign. 0ver were into a general Election Campaign. Over the weekend, were into a general Election Campaign. 0verthe weekend, mps were into a general Election Campaign. Over the weekend, mps said they were getting feedback. While an ad which you go to election at this time . The election would be held before christmas, a time of year when most people are thinking more about presence than politics. Also in the middle of next month, it critical eu summit, deciding what happens with the brexit talks and the irish border. They wanted to avoid a general election. The state of play, before the Irish Government met behind me, that if brothers general that cheryl didnt resign. It wouldnt bring down the government. This list fitzgerald announced she would step down. Putting parliament under pressure from Opposition Mps still stood up. It was his view that a good woman was leaving Office Without getting a fair hearing. He does continue in office. He will go to that eu summit with out having a general Election Campaign to run at the same time. But it is clear from the same time. Mentioning the upcoming summit and the challenges of brexit. Today david davis has been summoned before a Parliamentary Committee to explain his decision not to release full details of the government s assessment of the Economic Impact likely impact of breakfast, it comes after mr davies provided the committee with a edited version of the government s assessment of 50 a different sectors of the economy. So what will this lead to . Can they force the government, this committee to give them an unedited version . I think technically they could, but also politically for the government, they have got themselves into a real mess here riverbeds. Remember, these documents were drawn up, because the government were under pressure at one point. People think you havent prepared, nowak has been done in whitehall, you need to do an assessment. David davis went before assessment. David davis went before a committee and said we have done these assessments, we have done in great detail. Mps wanted to have a look at them, which the government wasnt keen on. The compromise an edited version. Now, hilary benn, the chairman of this committee, he says, it is not up to the minister to decide what we see, they should hand this over to us and we will decide what will be made public will stop we should be allowed to read them in full. There is such a thing as contempt of parliament, it is, incredibly rare for any ministered to be accused of it. You can be hauled in front of the speaker, the ultimate sanction is imprisonment. I dont weekend it will go to that. It isa dont weekend it will go to that. It is a real battle between mps and not just those on the remain side. This issue has united those who feel we should have remained in the european union. And also some conservatives who say this is all about transparency, mps having power over the government, ministers and we should be allowed to see the documents. The government insists it wouldnt be right, there is commercially Sensitive Information in there. Also, what if that were to be some kind of negative impact in some sector . Do you want to put that out there . The negotiations on the other side of the fans know our weak points, they do not think it is a good idea. No one is quite sure how this will end, but the i think the government will have to do more before satisfying the mps. Thank you. Time is 27 minutes past five. He will be visiting family in new zealand instead and may make an appearance for club side canterbury while hes there. 0ur Sports Correspondent andy swiss is following the tour. Welcome to adelaide airport, the england players arrived from brisbane and have plenty to think about before the second test gets underway on saturday. But while they we re underway on saturday. But while they were flying here the big talking point was another cricketer making a plane journey, a picture point was another cricketer making a planejourney, a picture appeared on twitter which it was claimed was ben stokes as an airport. That prompted fevered speculation that he was on his way here to australia. The england and Wales Cricket board say hes not but hes on his way to new zealand, the ecb said hes making a private trip to new zealand to spend some time with his family. But it seems as if he also wants to play some cricket because the new zealand side canterbury said they have been holding initial informal discussions with him his availability for forthcoming matches. Ben stokes is suspended from england duty but it is understood they would be happy for him to play for a site in new zealand. So it is another Intriguing Development in this ongoing saga. Wales will finish the year on top of their womens World Cup Qualifying Group ahead of england after they beat Bosnia Herzegovina one nil this afternoon. Wales are now four points clear. And they said top with ten points. And Northern Ireland are currently in action, they could do with the wind. England pay kazakhstan this evening. Both players contracts expire at the end of the season but theyre key figures for wenger. And sanchez has scored 56 goals since arriving from barcelona three years ago. Wenger is also determined to keep Jack Wilshere at arsenal. Hes struggled with injury and spent last season on loan at bournemouth and hes yet to make a premier league start this season. Ifi if i think is best interest is to stay here and will absolutely fight 100 for him to stay here. Because he isa 100 for him to stay here. Because he is a guy who is top quality. And who is now back fit. And for me when you have a top quality player you wa nt you have a top quality player you want him to be at arsenal football club. Arsenal take on huddersfield in the premier league tomorrow evening but there are four games tonight. Brighton host Crystal Palace in a fixture that has increasingly become a grudge match over the years. Spurs are at leicester, second place Manchester United travel to watford and managerless West Bromwich albion host newcastle united. England head coach Wayne Bennett has finalised his squad for the rugby league World Cup Final against australia on saturday and theres only one change to the line up that survived a late fight back to beat tonga at the weekend. Tipuric has a thigh injury. Thats all the sport for now. You can find more on all those stories on the bbc sport website and well have more for you in sportsday at half past six. More on our story that the brexit secretary david davis has been summoned before a Parliamentary Committee to explain his decision not to release full details of the governments assessment of the Economic Impact of brexit. We arejoined by labours hilary benn who is the chair of the brexit select committee. Thank you for coming in. Your response to what has happened today . It is clear from the letter from david davis to me that the government has added the documents before releasing them to the select committee. That is not what the house of commons decided when it past the motion. Edited the documents. Calling on the government to release all the material that they were holding to my committee and therefore i have said to him what the government has done is not consistent with that motion and not in keeping with the clear expectations that i communicated to him when we met. I said it would be for the select committee tours to decide what will be published and we would give careful consideration of august to any concerns about material that was commercially sensitive or which might undermine the negotiations. That is why with aston to come and see us so we can put questions to him about the process the government went through and then to ask him in a private session of the material that has been released to us to have any remaining concerns about that being put in the public domain. Because the purpose of this process is to make sure parliament and the public get to see the workings the government has carried out in deciding what kind of brexit to pursue. This is a very important question. Is it within your power to force the government to really provide all the details that you request. We are going to put up questions to david davis and then it is for the committee to decide what steps to take next. I said in the letter we might have to consider if there has been a breach of parliamentary proceedings but were not yet at that stage. But people may listen to this and think it is an argument about this and that, papers and so on but the fundamental question is the government has taken very Big Decisions following the referendum result, it said we will leave the Customs Union and Single Market. Those decisions will have implications for every single area of the economy. Every part of the uk. And therefore what parliament has been saying to the government is this, it is important that we see what assessment you have made of the impact of those decisions and the different kind of outcomes we might get depending on how the negotiations go. We all want the best deal but given that in just about every other government decision ministers produce what is called an Impact Assessment looking at the costs and benefits and implications, how come we have not yet seen the full assessment of the decisions the government has taken about its approach to brexit. And in particular decisions to leave the Customs Union. And the Single Market that enables the uk economy to sell a lot of those services into our biggest market, the remainder of the eu. If youre not able to get the details you require, is there a mechanism by which you can force ministers to provide you with the unedited Impact Assessments . That is a matter for the committee to decide and we have not yet debated that so i cannot speak on their behalf. But those powers exist in some form . It is possible to a to the speaker and thatis is possible to a to the speaker and that is why in my letter i made reference to the committee possibly considering whether there has been a breach of privilege. But were not at that stage yet. It is clear that the government has given us material that has been edited and that is not in keeping with the decision of parliament when it asked for the material to be given to us. That is why we decided to summon david davis asa why we decided to summon david davis as a matter of urgency so we can understand why the government has done this and what was their reason for not abiding by the resolution of the house of commons. So that we can then decide the next step is the select committee will take up it is important that the Government Trust select committees and one of the things are referred to today, there was some suggestion we could not be trusted to decide what was appropriate material to be published and what should be redacted because it might undermine negotiations or reveal commercially Sensitive Information. No one on the committee wa nts to information. No one on the committee wants to do either of those things. I was clear with david davis that it is for the committee to decide what is for the committee to decide what is published, not for the government. And that is why we have taken this step today. What would you said to a viewer who might ask if it was really about commercially Sensitive Information or not wanting people to see the content of the reports themselves. If there is commercial confidentiality i think we would all respect that but there isa we would all respect that but there is a world of difference between something that would damage negotiations and something that would be embarrassing to government. The point i would ask those watching this interview and listening to the debate on the subject to reflect on is this, we are taking Big Decisions that will affect the future of the country and it is not unreasonable to say to the government have you considered what the implications of those decisions are, have you looked at the detail, the impact on different sectors of the economy, one approach as opposed to the other and that is what were asking for. And given the scale of the impact of brexit depending on how negotiations 90, brexit depending on how negotiations go, it seems to me it is perfectly reasonable for the parliament that we elect and the public we serve to ask the government be open with us so that we can also reach a view on whether we think you are pursuing brexit in the right way. It is not about respecting the result of the referendum, but future trading relationship, how we Sell Services into the economy, alljobs and investment that depends on that, thatis investment that depends on that, that is of interest to every Single Person in this country as well as the mps. That is why weve had this of opinion. And why it is so important. Thank you very much. News just in onjob important. Thank you very much. News just in on job losses, were important. Thank you very much. News just in onjob losses, were being told around 2500 staff have been made redundant at palmer and harvey, a wholesaler. The business collapsed and went into administration, joint administrators today releasing this rather sad news for those members of staff, around 2500 staff at palmer and harvey being made redundant. That news just coming in and harvey being made redundant. That newsjust coming in in and harvey being made redundant. That news just coming in in the past few minutes. Lets return to our main story of the keynote speech pope francis has given in myanmar where he demanded respect for each ethnic Group Without referring specifically to its Muslim Rohingya community. The pope had faced calls from human Rights Groups to raise myanmars treatment of the Rohingya Muslims during talks with the de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. Myanmar doesnt recognise the rohingya as a distinct ethnic group. Why did he decide on this course of action. Joining me now is azeem ibrahim, author of the rohingyas inside myanmars genocide and Research Professor at the strategic studies institute, the us armys institute for National Security analysis. Good to have you with us. Wii u disappointed with the pope and his remarks today question mark very disappointed, the authorities in myanmar has been effective in preventing International Diplomats not to use the term rohingya and this is part of a Systematic Campaign not just to this is part of a Systematic Campaign notjust to remove the rohingya ethically but also deny their existence and essentially eradicate them from the lexicon of myanmar. This will be seen no doubt asa myanmar. This will be seen no doubt as a victory for the extremists. It is sad that the pope refused to even use the term rohingya especially when he is in the current political environment is seen as the leader of a large religious group and also the moral conscience of the world. When he makes remarks about respecting minorities, respecting the Ethnic Diversity of the country, many people will have read into that that he was referring in some way to the persecution of the rohingya. You do not think it was enough . Not at all, these are the same kind of platitudes almost every Global Leader including Aung San Suu Kyi herself has articulated. I think it was important for the pope to say the word rohingya and quite sad that he did not go down that road. There isa he did not go down that road. There is a dispute about the origins of the word and indeed the authorities in myanmar repeatedly have said it is not a valid word, not a valid name and has not existed for a long time. This is the crux of the problem, the extreme view, that they essentially came over from bangladesh and conned cock to that word, rohingya. They even say it was concocted in march of 1942. I examined the veracity of these claims and dug up many documents dating back to the British Colonial period. And it states clearly in these documents that one in three cells in that region are of rohingya origin. Historians say that the term goes back for eight centuries so the claim that it is a manufactured term and the people do not belong there does not stand up to historical scrutiny. Just looking at the images of the camps across the border in bangladesh, apple reported from some of those today and indeed last night as well. Do you see any prospect of as well. Do you see any prospect of a meaningful return for many of these people who are living in appalling circumstances . Any plan to get them back to their homeland or is this actually in some way a by product of the policies put in place by the myanmar government. It may cause them some International Embarrassment but you know, are they concerned about that . embarrassment but you know, are they concerned about that . Ijust got back from the camps myself last week and have seen the horrific conditions of People Living there. The agreement that bangladesh has signed with the myanmar republic excludes the rohingya and the military and i think that they are simply looking to buy time until International Attention moves onto next crisis. Theyve done this before in 2016 and 2012 and 2013. This is a Systematic Campaign to clea nse this is a Systematic Campaign to cleanse the country. They have gone to considerable effort to dispel these people and are unlikely to ta ke these people and are unlikely to take them back. The profile of Aung San Suu Kyi internationally as a leader meant to introduce elements of freedom into a country where that had been a distant hope in the past, are you surprised that she has gone down this path and seems to be resista nt to down this path and seems to be resistant to the notion that these rohingya are being persecuted . Well Aung San Suu Kyi has moved from being a container to a full time politician and now she has realised it is not worth utilising the Political Capital of the rohingya. And the militant buddhists and military will considerable power in the country. She is always seen myanmar being essentially a buddhist country and the rohingya are not welcome in the country. It is all smiles between the pope and Aung San Suu Kyi im just wondering in the private conversation, what are your thoughts on what may be brought up there . Welll thoughts on what may be brought up there . Well i think it is immaterial whether he says something in private or not, i thought it was important for him to stand up and use the term rohingya and condemn what amounts to genocide. Well those are the images today, good to talk to you and thank you very much forjoining us with your thoughts. The governor of the bank of england mark carney has warned that a disorderly brexit would cause pain to both households and businesses. But he said that for the First Time Since stress tests of the main uk banks were introduced, all the institutions passed. 0ur personal finance correspondent Simon Gompertz has more details. Could our banks deal with another financial crisis or a big recession or a chaotic brexit . The answer is yes, though with some reservations. The bank of england looked at what would happen if our economy shrank by nearly 5 , if its Interest Rate was put up to 4 and it has prices plummeted by a third. If house prices. Banks would still be able to carry on lending. The governor mark carney said they would also cope if the uk crashed out of the eu without agreement though people would feel it. There will be an Economic Impact on households, on businesses, there will be lost markets for a period before new markets are found and there will be some pain associated with that. And despite getting through the tests over borrowing on credit cards is a concern. So to stay safe banks are being told to have more money on hand to cover any losses. The government is planning to sell off its controlling stake in rbs natwest, a bank which failed to withstand a real financial crisis so passing the stress tests, thats a relief for ministers. But there is a potential nightmare scenario, for the bank of england what it calls a series of highly unfortunate events, events, that if a serious recession, big fines for the banks and a disorderly brexit all happened at the same time. The bank says Financial Institutions would be helped by a brexit transition period and more work to make sure cross border insurance and banking continues. Im confident the bank of england knows what its doing in forecasting terms. What im not confident about is their ability to foretell the future. They are not soothsayers, they dont have crystal balls and we are in a very uncertain situation. Some might also look back and say if only banks had these tests in place before the 2008 financial crisis then years of difficulties might have been avoided. Simon gompertz, bbc news. Newly declassified mi5 files have revealed thatjohn profumo the former conservative minister of war had a long affair with a glamorous nazi spy. The files detail his relationship with Gisela Winegard and suggest she may have tried to blackmail him. Mr profumo was forced to resign in 1963 after he was found to have shared a mistress Christine Keeler with a soviet spy in london. David silito reports. It was in the 1960s the great political scandal. John profumo, secretary of state for war, the man in charge of the nations security was forced to resign after it was revealed hed had an affair with a woman who was also involved with a soviet intelligence officer. Whats now emerged is that it wasnt the first time hed been involved with a woman perceived to be a security risk. These documents from mi5 have just been released. Revealing he was in the 1950s at risk of blackmailing from another former girlfriend. This is Gisela Winegard, a german model who he met in oxford in the 1930s. They remained close for many years however during the war she was also involved with high ranking nazis. Is she a spy . Certainly looks like it. There was some discussion about whether she had an emotional attachment with the military attache, how did that develop but later documents make it very clear she was involved in some sort of intelligence network. Were not quite clear how, whether she was a runner or what she actually did as part of that but certainly, yes, it was more than just an acquaintance, definitely she was a strong pro nazi and was involved in some level in espionage work. But none of this became public at the time of the scandal. Had we known this at the height of the Profumo Affair it would probably have pulled the establishment below the water line. Had that come out at the time one could imagine what the tabloids would have made of it. Back in the 1960s lord denning went through the files and concluded there to be no Security Breach but more than 50 years on its clear the full picture ofjohn profumo and the secret files was far from public.
