And attempted murder after deliberately driving a van into a crowd of muslims near a north London Mosque lastjune in an act of terrorism. He killed makram ali, who was 51, and injured several others. Darren osborne from cardiff was described as a loner whod become obsessed with muslims after watching a tv drama and looking at far right groups online. The 48 year old told the court he was not mad but angry. Lets speak to our correspondent asad ahmad whos outside the Finsbury Park mosque where that attack took place. You have spoken to local residents and people from the mosque, what has been the reaction . I have to say the reaction is one of calm, particularly at the Muslim Welfare house which is that building behind me, the building the murdered man walked out of before Darren Osborne ploughed his van into him and killed him. And also the Finsbury Park mosque, i was there an hour ago and there was no sense ofjubilation to there was no sense ofjubilation to the verdict or hatred towards Darren Osborne. People just say we want to get on with our lives, a short time ago i spoke to an imam who was the imam who stepped in to protect Darren Osborne after the attack from people who were angry and shocked at what happened who wanted to get their hands on him but he protected Darren Osborne until the police arrived. I spoke to him and he said it was really important that street justice was not done and to let the criminal Justice System justice was not done and to let the criminalJustice System do itsjob and he said it has done itsjob. Looking to the future, was their concern about whether these kind of attacks could become more prevalent . In the weeks that followed is this attack there were attacks on other mosques, particularly in london but also elsewhere in the country. The met police and Scotland Yard tell us the number of attacks on muslims has gone back down to the level it was a year ago so muslims are hopeful that the hatred that was spread by Darren Osborne and the divide he wanted to clearly creates within the community would not happen and talking about that because if it was Darren Osbornes intention to split the community he failed in that because in the days and weeks that followed the attack the people in finsbury, christian, dues, muslims and of no religion came together because they said they wanted to stand united against this act of hate and the message is one that people around here hope is still alive around here. The end ofjanuary here hope is still alive around here. The end of january is here hope is still alive around here. The end ofjanuary is a milestone for those who plan to stop drinking. A vegan cafe in leeds. Theres no meat or Dairy Products in any of the food here and for the last month, non vegans have been encouraged to give it a go, and those behind the veganuary say its a lot easier today than it was a few years ago. When i went vegan seven years ago, there was none of the chain restaurants doing vegan options. Now nearly all of them have got vegan options on the menu or theyve got a vegan menu itself. A lot of the supermarkets now, the range of products that are available to people going vegan is a lot better than it was six or seven years ago so its moving in the right direction. What is the one thing you miss . Cheese. Thats your. . Yes, cheese. Tabatha went vegan forjanuary. Despite some cravings, she stuck to it and will continue. The thing that got me in the first place was the Environmental Impact of veganism and vegetarianism. Health, ethics, so many reasons. And its been ok, you havent struggled . You havnet fallen off the wagon . No, i havent. At a nearby bakery, ellie has looked at the business making vegan cakes. It is now becoming mainstream. It has been crazy. Lots of cafes want to accommodate everybody. They are wanting to offer a really good range and just the general public. You go to a market orjust the big vegan fares, there are bigger crowds. The growth in trade is reflected by a growing change in peoples attitudes. Veganism as a lifestyle choice has boomed. For many people they are choosing a flexible approach, even part time, reducing their meat intake to once or twice a week and eating more vegetables on the other days. Veganuary is a brilliant introduction to test the waters. The organisers say 78,000 people tried going vegan injanuary and they think even more will have a go next year. We will have a quick look at the weather now. It has felt much colder today in the bitter north wind which has brought snow showers and this is how it looked earlier in one ski resorts near fort william. The snow will last because that keeping cold airforthe will last because that keeping cold air for the foreseeable future and if few more wintry showers to come this evening and overnight. Temperatures falling close to freezing, the risk of ice in the north and east where we have showers. Temperatures hovering above in towns and cities but temperatures will be low enough on the ground for some forced on us. We could be faced with winteriness across east anglia up with winteriness across east anglia up into lincolnshire the eastern side of Northern England, east of the pennines and so that is where they could be icy issues as well as whether snow showers in the north but barbecue showers which fade in eastern areas and i2 but barbecue showers which fade in eastern areas and 12 parts of pembrokeshire and cornwall and devon it looks drier tomorrow. The wind is not as strong so it should feel less cold, quite pleasant in the sunshine. We do have a problem waiting in the wings. That is the issue for the weekend as we were talking about yesterday, the band of rain comes into the cold air sewer wintry mix, it will be cold and there could be snow as it arrives across the highlands of scotland and Northern England and it brightens from Northern England and eastern parts of england have a brighter day than tomorrow and are less cold one because we lose the wind. But for many it looks cloudy with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow on the hills and may wintry mix. For the rugby, of course the six nations kicks off this weekend. In wales they play scotland, some cold rain around here for the fans travelling even a few showers in paris. As we head into sunday, i weather system will fizzle out so a key north east wind, cold wind in the far south and east but some sunshine coming into the north and west to the weekend does not start off too promising in the west but we will seek sunshine on sunday but we will seek sunshine on sunday but the cold wind will bring a change for that stage and into the start of the new week, a repeat performance, another band of rain comes into the cold air and we could have some snow as we move into tuesday and the cold air is with us to stay for much of next week. Youre watching beyond 100 days. Well, that was quick peace and unity really didnt last long in washington. The president was back on twitter slamming democrats ahead of a Republican Party retreat. Mr trump used his speech to extol the victories of his administration and criticise the other side. Which tells you, perhaps, theyd rather see us not do well than see our country do great. And thats not good, thats not good. Spicey is back he lasted six months as president trumps press secretary, now sean spicerjoins us to talk about life at the podium.
