The duke and duchess of sussexs son, archie, has been baptised during a service at windsor castle. Personally i think there should have been a little more access. Its a shame, everybody has come for the day and nobody gets to see them. Shame, everybody has come for the day and nobody gets to see themlj think they are entitled to their privacy. Hundreds of thousands of people have been on the streets of the capitalfor the pride parade. They dont need to go down the line. And the wimbledon dream team andy murray and Serena Williams on centre court. The conservative party says it will expel anyone who casts more than one vote in the contest to choose the next leader and the countrys Prime Minister. A bbc investigation has found that some members have received two ballot papers in the post. Around 160,000 people are eligible to vote in the leadership election, which will see either borisjohnson orjeremy hunt take over from theresa may. Manveen rana reports. As the leadership rivals arrived in nottingham today to face the party faithful, it emerged errors had led to some members being issued with two ballot papers. But for the contenders it was business as usual. Get it right, and we will deliver brexit, unite our party, unleash the incredible potential of our country. We need to get brexit done, we need to get it over the line by october the 31st. Voting has already begun, and one Party Insider said at least a thousand people might have received an extra vote. Some were registered in several local associations. Others were women who received separate ballot papers in their maiden name and their married name. Im pretty certain the chairman of the conservative party has already been asked to look carefully at how they sift, so, obviously there is an issue here, i accept that. But rather than get bogged down in the process, the truth is that even in a general election, people are registered in different areas. The process has been flawed. Ive seen separate ballot papers being sent to the same person at the same address. But neither the conservative party nor the independent body theyve hired to scrutinise this election were able to tell us how many ballot papers were sent out in error. But they are adamant that it hasnt damaged the legitimacy of the vote. Its made very clear on the ballot paper that youre only allowed to vote once. And i expect conservative members to follow that. You rightly point out that if people have joined two associations, they may get two ballot papers. I get two ballot papers in elections because im on two different sets of electoral registers. It doesnt mean that i vote twice i dont. Electoral law doesnt apply. If people are caught voting twice, they face expulsion from the party rather than a criminal conviction. The conservative partys own internal rules will decide if the vote for the next Prime Minister is a fair and legitimate vote. And for the members, like those in nottingham, they have until july the 22nd to decide. Manveen rana, bbc news. Boris johnson and jeremy hunt are facing conservative members in cardiff this evening in the partys latest leadership hustings. 0ur wales correspondent tomos morgan is there. What is their priority . What would they like to hear this evening from they like to hear this evening from the two candidates . The people here wa nt the two candidates . The people here want to hear more on their thoughts oii want to hear more on their thoughts on Welsh Government policy. Their thoughts on that but also about devolution and devolved powers. Jeremy hunt has just devolution and devolved powers. Jeremy hunt hasjust finished talking here in south wales and as you can see, just leaving now to go back to the next hustings in the next couple of days. Jeremy hunt, while he was on stage in front of the members here in cardiff, made a numberof the members here in cardiff, made a number of comments regarding a number of comments regarding a numberof number of comments regarding a number of devolved powers, saying that london actually and westminster should have some sort of accountability over the Welsh Government in certain aspects of their work. The nhs came government in certain aspects of theirwork. The nhs came up, and devolved topic, he had some criticism of the welsh Labour Government and their handling of the nhs but one of the other topics was brexit and the funding that comes to wales. Wales is a huge beneficiary of eu funding, one of the biggest beneficiaries and jeremy hunt did say he would make sure that wales didnt lose out. When we leave the European Union we wont have those annual contributions that we had to make for our membership, so there will be a net increase in funds that the exchequer has to spend and of course we are going to make sure that all parts of the United Kingdom benefit from those additional funds. So it may be that one part of money is less but another part of money will be better. Wales receives the highest amount of any region. And i will make sure as Prime Minister that wales does not lose out because i think it is very important asa conservative party that we are the party that wants to spread wealth throughout the whole country andi am also a passionate unionist. 0ne one of the other things mentioned by jeremy hunt to the tory Party Members was infrastructure, the m4 relief road around the area of newport, a big traffic hotspot, something that has been scratched by the Welsh Government. Jeremy hunt saying he is for any infrastructure but refused to give a definitive answer on the m4 relief road but he did say that the electrification of the railway was not going all the way to swansea. 0ne the railway was not going all the way to swansea. One of the topics that has come up to date is the situation that a number of tory members have received two ballot papers. We asked a number of members inside, none had received, they all told us they had only received one but there were mixed reaction to this news that has come out today. It is such a small number and i cant see that it will make any difference at all. It is obviously, perhaps an error or difference at all. It is obviously, perhaps an error oi some incompetence perhaps an error or some incompetence somewhere but i wouldnt put it other than that. Incompetence somewhere but i wouldnt put it other than thatm is very unfortunate and i think people have got reasons for concern. But i think it is very unfortunate. Somebody needs to get up to date on the paperwork. If you go by the rules and you are a true member and you vote once, you chuck one away and send it back. Boris johnson is now on stage in front of the tory members here in cardiff and one of the things he mentioned before he came here in a meeting is that he would back a tidal lagoon around swa nsea would back a tidal lagoon around swansea if it were proposed to the government in westminster. It was only last year that the tory government actually scrapped the proposed tidal lagoon around swa nsea, proposed tidal lagoon around swansea, that would create enough power for just swansea, that would create enough powerforjust under swansea, that would create enough power forjust under 200,000 homes. Today in south wales, borisjohnson has been attempting to speak welsh to some of the people down in barry and he was asked about the welsh language when he first arrived, he said he supported the proposal of trying to reach i said he supported the proposal of trying to reachi million said he supported the proposal of trying to reach i million welsh language speakers in wales in the near future, saying it language speakers in wales in the nearfuture, saying it was language speakers in wales in the near future, saying it was obviously one of the tory party goals. It was of course a Welsh Government labour plan to do so and his first point of attack when he got on stage here was to attack the welsh Labour Government and no doubt there will be some more questions about devolution inside as the day goes on. The former head of British Intelligence has told the bbc that the uk is going through a political nervous breakdown. Sirjohn sawers has said hes deeply concerned about the calibre of politicians in the uk as the country prepares to leave the European Union, criticising both the conservative party and labour. Police are investigating an explosion at a Shopping Mall in florida in which more than one dozen people are reported to have been inujred two seriously. The explosion happened at 11. 30 local time west of Fort Lauderdale in the city of plantation. The blast sent large pieces of debris across nearby streets. The local fire chief said they had not yet confirmed the cause and source of the explosion but that ruptured gas lines were found in the rubble. Emergency crews in Southern California are tackling a number of fires and gas leaks after the state was hit with its biggest earthquake in more than 20 years. The epicentre of the quake, which had a magnitude of 7. 1, was near the city of ridgecrest, about 150 miles north east of los angeles. Angus crawfords report contains some flashing images. Oh, my god. Fear and shock. Two quakes in two days. This one with the magnitude of 7. 1, the strongest for 20 years. Evacuate nerves stretched to the limit. Go, go, go panic is infectious. 8 21am here on the air, we are experiencing. And very public. I think we need to get under the desk. 0k, were going to go to break. Well be right back. Wow. In hollywood, tourists werent sure what to make of it. Everythings moving, and the chandelier was shaking, and the kids were saying, its an earthquake. We saw that the rest of the people in our neighbouring rooms were looking at each other. We were all kind of scared, just freaking out about it. Landslides blocked some roads. Motorists using their bare hands to clear the debris. Broken gas pipes caused fires, though no serious injuries were reported. And heres why. The epicentre, remote ridgecrest near death valley. But theres more to come. This was a very large earthquake. And we also know theres going to be a series of aftershocks as a result of the main quake. So we want to prepare ourselves in being able to have those resources in place as the days go on here. For now, california counts the cost of this quake and waits for the next. Angus crawford, bbc news. Speaking at a press conference a little earlier the local police chief said it was incredible no one had died in the quake. It is hard for the world to know what we have been through. Because by the grace of god, we have had no casualties and weve only had minor injuries. Which is amazing considering these two big earthquakes that weve experienced. Also our structures have remained upright, some have sustained some major damage but they are still standing, so that has been amazing. 0ur correspondent peter bowes is in los angeles and a little earlier he gave me this update. This is earthquake country, it is living up to its name but this is a story of dodging the bullet. As we have just heard, it is amazing that no one was seriously hurt. All the buildings are still standing, there is some considerable structural damage and assessment of that damage is still going on and will go on for quite some time, but the fact that no one has been seriously hurt in a 7. 1 magnitude quake is quite extraordinary. I am 150 miles away, i felt it extraordinary. I am 150 miles away, ifelt it in extraordinary. I am 150 miles away, i felt it in los angeles. Pictures we re i felt it in los angeles. Pictures were fawning in my house, you can only imagine what it was like to be close to the epicentre. It was that very well the field, Los Las Vegas but the people of that community are extremely lucky today, it could have been far worse. When you look at the after effects of it and sort are trying to get things back on track again, how do they come across to you . Is this, well, we get on with it, we are used to it . Are they prepared enough . In a sense people in california are never prepared enough and this often when we have events like this, it serves as a reminder of what might be to come and there is always potentially worse to come and we have heard there will be many after shocks. There is a 4 chance of an even bigger quake than 7. 1 in the coming days. Certainly we will feel there is after shocks for months, possibly yea rs is after shocks for months, possibly years to come, but in the back of peoples minds, always the fact that the big one could strike at any time, most likely on the san andreas fault, a completely different fault to the one that is affected by this quake but if that happens, when that happens, because it is well overdue, major cities could see widespread damage and potentially many deaths. Murderers who refuse to reveal the location of their victims bodies could spend longer behind bars under legal changes being set out by the government. Whats become known as helens law, which will apply in england and wales, follows a campaign by the mother of helen mccourt. Helen was killed 31 years ago, but her body has never been found. Ben ando has more. For 31 years, Marie Mccourt has been fighting for helens law, named after her daughter, who was just 22 when she was abducted and murdered in 1988. Her killer, pub landlord ian simms. He has never revealed the whereabouts of helens body. To have this law means that other families will not have to hopefully go through the pain and grief for as long as i have. I believe that these killers now have two face up for what they have done because to take a life is horrendous but then to take the lives of the family of that loved one and not let them know where their loved ones body is, there is no torture worse than that. Marie led a campaign demanding that murderers who refuse to disclose the whereabouts of a victims remains spend longer behind bars. In 2016, mps voted in favour of helens law, but it didnt receive government backing until now. With thejustice secretary david gauke proposing that it be introduced as soon as is practicable. The parole board can already use withholding information as a reason not to release a prisoner, because it suggests they are still an ongoing risk to the public. But its optional. Helens law changes that, and makes factoring it in a legal requirement. Even now, marie lights candles every week at her home in merseyside. Although she still does not know where her daughters remains are, the creation of helens law may provide some comfort, especially if it means other families wont have to face both the pain of loss and the agony of not knowing.
