Life to ibiza, but its also stripping it of its identity released. Is this about the and, indeed, its watersupply. And what the film manages to do is a great documentary should make spiritual aspect of a christening . At the end of the day, this is what you know more about and more interested about something it is about, or it is about the you know nothing about. And it does all of that. Public being nosy . I dont care. You are never going to be there are loads of archie s born bored withjulian temple. He makes films that are thrilling andi there are loads of archie s born and funny and cheeky and smart. And i wish them all the very best. I think it is all of those things. Just dont spend so much money on im really looking forward to it. Im not sure i am looking forward them. It is a fabulous family event and that is what it is all about. To this weeks re release. I know it makes me a philistine. That is where we are going to end. I best film out dont look now. Like these stories. I am a loser when it first went out in the 19705, it went out on a double bill in which the supporting feature was the wicker man. Today. You are today oh, how much i would thats it for the papers tonight. Dont forget you can see have loved that the front pages of the papers online on the bbc news website. I think dont look now its all there for you, seven days is a stone cold masterpiece. A week at bbc. Co. Uk papers, adapted from a story, and if you miss the programme but the film is absolutely a whole any evening, in and of itself. You can watch it later terrifying, but it has a brilliant on bbc iplayer. Score by pino donaggio, thank you, joe twyman and Yasmin Alibhai brown. Superb performances, and it is a film about grief and loss. Do stay with us. More news coming up and it is impossible to ever look at the top of the hour. At a picture and walk around next on bbc news, the streets of venice its the film review. Without hearing that score. And, yes, its terrifying, but its because its actually about something. You have seen it . No, i am too scared it is about so much more than horror. It is about love and passion and venice and death. Hello and welcome to and scary things. A quick final thought the film review on bbc news. To take us through about dvds, streaming. This weeks cinema is, as ever, mark kermode. Hole in the ground. And what have you been watching . This is a horror movie. And whats really interesting about this its a strangely creepy ok, so we have midsommar, horror movie about a mother and son which im going to tell flee off to a woodland retreat you in advance is not a horrorfilm. Where there is a hole in the ground, it has horror elements, and this is a film which kind but not a horror film. We have spider man far from home. Of relates to things like dark water or body snatchers. And ibiza the silent movie. And what i really liked which isnt that silent. About it was i went into it thinking i hope not. I have probably seen all of this before, but ten yeah, yeah, i get it, i get it. Minutes, and i thought this is creepy. And it had that real cold hand on the back of the neck feel. There are certain little glimpses last week was my first week back, of horror through it, so you were really nice to me, and now. So this you should avoid because this is a horror film midsommar isnt. Ok, so heres the thing i hear you. Thank you, mark. Midsommar is the new movie thank god for spider man. By ari aster, who made hereditary. Thats it, see you next time. I wasnt crazy about hereditary. Bye bye. I thought the first half of it was terrific and the second half was silly. Good evening. Sunshine should return Florence Pugh is brilliant in everything she is in. She is riven with anxiety about a terrible tragedy that has more widely to england and wales. Befallen herfamily at the beginning of the film. Northern scotland will continue with the risk of showers. Further south, jack is her boyfriend, christian, the risk of showers. Further south, she needs him for support, the cloud have been courtesy of this weather front, a few spots of rain. But what she doesnt know still quite warm here. Behind it is is that he has agreed with his friends that he will go much fresher, quite cool potentially to a pagan midsummerfestival. She isnt thrilled when she finds out. But she thinks she has across the glens of scotland, but it to along with it. Heres a clip. Does mean an abundance of sunshine first thing sunday morning. This low cloud, the odd shower could give us you said it would be cool to go. Some missed around the cornwall look, i dont mind you going ijust coast. But it should ease into the wish you would have told afternoon. Sunshine developing. Me, thats all. Well, i just apologised. You didnt apologise, there weather cloud, a few again for you said sorry which sounds more like too bad. Scotland, but the wind is light. In maybe i should just go home. What . The light wind and sunshine, it does no, no, imjust return more widely to england and trying to understand. Wales. Temperatures around average and im trying to apologise. And i dont need an apology. For this time of year. It will feel i dont, ijust wanted to talk about it, thats all. I really think i should just leave. Quite pleasant. Pollen levels are very high in the south. No, no. Please, please. Please, im not trying to attack you. Im not. It really feels like you are well, then, im sorry im sorry, ijust got confused. Im sorry. Hey, please come on. Can you come and sit with me please . Just stop. And we can talk about it . Look, itjust felt really weird, ok . But im fine. I think its great that youre going to sweden, i do. So you can see from that it is a relationship movie. About a couple having problems. It begins in dark winter and they then go to sweden to the festival in which everything is bright and happy and everyone is wearing white dresses and headdresses. All very beautiful. All very beautiful, and you know because we have all seen the wicker man that things are not going to go very well. But it wears its wicker man this is bbc news. Influences on its sleeve. Im samantha simmonds. But it also is absolutely our top stories about her and about her state california braces itself for aftershocks after the most powerful earthquake of mind and about, weirdly, what happens at the festival to hit the state in 20 years. Is somehow that becomes externalised. Iran gives europe one day so, on the one hand, to save the International Nuclear we know that this is something deal, warning its ready which is dressed in the garb to enrich more uranium. Of a folk horror movie, of which wicker man is kind docking despite the warnings of a high watermark. A boat carrying migrants arrives on the island of lampedusa but there isnt in it anything but no one is allowed to disembark. Like the terrible moment and joao gilberto, who brought in which Edward Woodward goes over bossa nova to the world the hill and realises what this is. And helped redefine brazil, has died aged 88. Its a much more gradual, hello and welcome to bbc world news. Slow burn movie about a group of people, and about one person in the middle of it whose central relationship is falling apart, who is bearing with her a great grief about her family, who is brought into this festival in which everyone is invested in toxic family and sisterhood and everyone talks about this being a great wonderful cycle of life and, indeed, to death. And what i liked was when i said hereditary was very, very uneven. First half really traumatising, second half silly. This is much more of a character progression. It is a character we invest in, not least because Florence Pugh is brilliant, will poulter is brilliant. The entire cast are so good, you buy into all supporting actors, and, therefore, you buy into the film itself. There was no one more reserved about ari aster than i was because his short films were great and they are about family and family conspiracies and family secrets, and i thought hereditary went off the boil. But this is much more of a sustained piece. And i promise you its not a horror movie. Although that said. Ijust dont believe you i love will poulter, but im still too scared to see it. Its a will poulter film that happens to have scary parts. It isa it is a bit horrifying in places. I can watch spider man. After avengers, where do we go from here . Answer. Europe. Peter parker wants to be a Normal School kid. He wants to be able to tell mj that he loves her. But nick fury keeps ringing up and says we need you to put on the spider man costume and come and do the stuff because the world needs you. So, whats interesting about the film is its quite playful. Its very funny, but it also has kind of a dark heart, because it exists in a world in which the question is what do we all do now . Where does it go from here . At the centre of it is somebody who doesnt want to be spider man. They just want to be a Normal School kid who wants to be able to tell mj that he has a crush on her, and wants to be able to lead a normal life. So, it is fun . I thought it was fun, but has some darkness underneath it, which i think is important and also stay till the very end because in this case, at the very end, there is notjust something that throws ahead to the future, but also something which refers back to what youve seen, but you do need to stick around for. 0k. Now, a new film from julian temple. Yes, im a huge fan ofjulian temple. Everyone went to see absolute beginners. He has made great documentaries. So now, ibiza the silent movie, which is obviously ironically titled. So its a film about ibiza and a film about history of the dance culture. The music is curated by fatboy slim, because asjulian temple himself said, he is not a dance culture fan. But what he has done is used the format of silent movies. Silent movies always had music. Ibiza has music all the way through, but it uses intertitles. So we see stuff on screen rather than dialogue. It serves the same purpose as it would have done in a silent movie, and traces back the history of the island and the culture and tells us dont believe everything you see in this documentary, but also does a very good job of saying this is where we are and there is both good and bad involved in that.
