We saw on monday. 16 21, below par for the time of year but not too bad with the lightning and sunshine. Dont get used to it, the next area of low pressure comes in on wednesday. Across england and wales, heavy rain on wednesday. The wind is also picking up once again in parts of southern england but not as windy and blustery conditions for anyone camping in the south coast of england and wales. Rain in the north west of scotland for a time as well. A ridge of High Pressure will keep things drier on thursday and perhaps into friday. Things will once again turn increasingly wet and windy this coming weekend but not as windy this coming weekend but not as windy as it has been. By by. Bye bye. Hello. This is bbc news. Well be taking a look at tomorrow mornings papers in a moment. First, the headlines. The Prime Minister pledges £2. 5 billion to create 10,000 new prison places, and says all Police Forces will be given extended stop and search powers. The fbi is investigating the death of the multi millionaire businessman and convicted sex offender, jeffrey epstein, who was found dead in his new york prison cell. Police in hong kong fire tear gas at pro democracy protesters in the tenth consecutive weekend of Anti Government demonstrations. Hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. With me are journalist and author Yasmin Alibhai brown and former conservative adviser mo hussein. Most of tomorrows front pages are now in. The i leads on a story weve covered today, borisjohnsons promise to expand stop and search powers. The Prime Ministers focus on law and order is also in the times, which says hes ordered a review ofjail terms. The mirror says the queen rallied behind Prince Andrew, after the death ofjeffrey epstein, with whom he was associated. Drug lords are luring children as young as seven into crime, by offering them free food. Thats according to the metro. Bankerjob cuts make the front page of the financial times. It says almost 30,000 job losses globally have been announced since april. The telegraph reports on a government crackdown on social media which, the paper says, will see tech giants heavily fined for showing harmful videos. Patients are waiting 15 days on average to see their gp so says the express, which calls the situation a scandal. And the daily mail carries a warning from doctors, about a surge in demand from women, amid a shortage of hrt drug brands. So, a varied set of front pages lets see what our reviewers make of it all. Lets begin with the front page of the daily mirror. Andrew and the secret epstein diary. Yes, this is new, i think. Secret epstein diary. Yes, this is new, ithink. Apparently secret epstein diary. Yes, this is new, i think. Apparently epstein a meticulously detailed diary of his friendships with the rich and famous. Epstein kept. And they have next artefact with a picture of the queen turning up with Prince Andrew, going to church. I suppose hed does need to pray a bit at the moment. He does. Ifind it very difficult that at this time we should be presenting andrew, who was in the middle of whatever happens, this is not the moment to say, everything is ok. Everything may not be ok with Prince Andrew and his relationship with this man. We should say, these are just allegations. They were friends. But is not an allegation, that is a fa ct. Is not an allegation, that is a fact. They were seen in central park in 2011 together. That is a fact. 0ther in 2011 together. That is a fact. Other things are being explored. In 2011 together. That is a fact. Other things are being exploredm feels like, yeah. It feels very much like the power of the picture here. On much like the power of the picture here. 0na much like the power of the picture here. On a few of the front pages, it is quite important, presenting the kind of business as usual way of doing things, and of course the queen has been making headlines a lot in the past few days. So, you know, i think it may fulfil a purpose in terms of the optics, of unity and support, but actually, there is some foreboding here in terms of what the diaries say, and the fact that this probe will continue even after what happened to epstein over the weekend, i think, probably has concerned a few people. Staying with this story, the times front page, they just staying with this story, the times front page, theyjust draw out a slightly different line. Yeah, well, the whole thing is a very complicated web of relationships. And many names are going to come into this. And again, they have used this photograph, which is annoying me hugely, i must say. The queen does have a very spoiled son in Prince Andrew, who she covers with medals. This is not the moment. But thatis medals. This is not the moment. But that is besides the point. Here we are mentioning somebody i have not heard about ten years, the daughter of robert maxwell, i think her name is ghislaine maxwell. She was very close to epstein and one of the allegations that she was kind of a piocu rer allegations that she was kind of a procurer of girls for epstein. She denies this, but it is in the front page of the times. I think this story is only just page of the times. I think this story is onlyjust beginning. That is the real point of it, if there are diaries with friendships and all these things recorded, this could get wider and wider. Exactly. It does feel like it is building up a head of steam, and maybe we are getting towards another watershed moment. We have seen that in the uk in terms of sexual abuse scandals around that. These things always do start with stories. It sometimes takes a while to make the connections between them. It does feel like this is where this could unfortunately be going. This is unpleasant reading. In america, they do go for, Thejustice Department ts, do go for, Thejustice Department s, once they get hold of Something Like this, i do not think they are going to let go of this one. Justice departments. It was not something they were able to see off a few years ago. But i also think it is really important, but epstein killing himself, he has left his alleged victims in this kind of place where they cannot see him standing trial. And that standing trial. And is place where they cannot see him standing trial. And is what so many of them will be needing. And it is a lwa ys of them will be needing. And it is always important to keep the alleged victims at the heart of reporting, the heart of the story. And the money thing, saying that the lawyers will get the money. I spoke to one ofjimmy southwells victims, and she cried, she said she just wanted him to answer questions. Jimmy saviles victims. The front page of the Daily Telegraph stop the headliners, tech giants to be fined millions for toxic audios. This is about government crackdowns, or the government would like to crack down, taking action against internet giants, around the idea of showing videos that have harmful content, particularly towards children. So, exportation, livestreaming. It is something that has been an issue for a while. Exploitation, livestreaming. As much of a positivist technology can be in our lives, there is also the responsibility that they have. Positive technology can be. I do not think they have been stepping up to that responsibility. I spent some time working at the home office. We did a lot of work with them on all theseissues did a lot of work with them on all these issues around illegal content, terrorist content, taking it down. The feeling very much was, you are the experts on technology. You Work Together to come up with a solution. To be fairto together to come up with a solution. To be fair to them, they have made some progress on that. Government has always felt they can go further. So now what we are seeing is the government taking control and imposing a solution on them. I do think there are many, many questions about this, though, in terms of how it will actually work, who will regulate this. These things are easy to say, but the proof will be, how is it delivered. And the need to have an international consensus. Is it delivered. And the need to have an international consensusm cannot be done without international consensus. It cannot be done without these Companies Really coming to the table. But they are so, so rich now. I actually dont give a damn. I think this is all part of our new Prime Ministers thing about law 0rder Prime Ministers thing about law order and taking charge. But this is something where he is not going to be able to take charge, just in terms of british control. He might find them. Fine them. What is to stop them not paying. He will need international cooperation. A complicated story, and a really difficult story on the front page of the metro. Chicken shop grooming of seven year olds. The metro. Chicken shop grooming of seven yearolds. Really disturbing, this. Young drug meals are being recruited by chicken shop gangs, just offering them fried chicken. Free food. They are desperate, these kids, they often do not have food. But also, it is through a treat, and through the streets they then get hooked into a really dickensian world of crime, isnt it . The fagans of our times. Another challenge for the government to try to control. Of our times. Another challenge for the government to try to controlm isa the government to try to controlm is a really big challenge and i think it goes beyond the headlines of the Crime Statistics we see, to show the real problem about our crime has been evolving, and it is moving out of the bigger cities, all across the country, and things like the supply of drugs and how the drugs are getting into the country in the first place, where they are ending up, that is really what underpins all of this. And as yasmin was saying, taking something that is just everyday life and using it against these children, mostly who will probably be vulnerable children, you know, that is a really complex thing to try to address. But thatis complex thing to try to address. But that is what needs to be addressed, which will then have a very big knock on effect to every other kind of Serious Violence and crime that we are seeing, it is all connected. Lets move on to the daily mail. A story in several of the papers. Yasmin, some powerful words that you have been reading . Yes, and this is the story, it was actually written by marina wheeler, the estranged wife of our Prime Minister, herself, in the sunday times. Very moving, very beautifully written, about what she has gone through. She has had to cancer operations since may. She does two or three things in this piece. She lets us know what she has been going through in a very gentle way, on top of what else she has been going through, with the marriage and the mistress and so on. She doesnt mention either of them, but i think that messages in there stop but also, more importantly, you should go for tests. You know, women need to be careful, government have these cervical smears. The problem is, most clinics that one used to be able to walk into have closed down. So there is a huge problem. That message around testing has been quite well received. Yes, it has, from charities and other people who are involved in raising awareness. I think, you know, dont underestimate how the challenge of opening up publicly about something so personal must be, and the pros and cons that you have to weigh up. The fact that you have to weigh up. The fact that you can use a platform to share this kind of message, which will i am sure help many other women, is surely to be welcomed and a good thing. Thats it for the papers tonight. Dont forget you can see the front pages of the papers online on the bbc news website. Thank you Yasmin Alibhai brown and mo hussein. And next on bbc news, its the film review
