You two are looking even sharper how are you . We had showers yesterday and more showers in the forecast today. Even a couple of cracks of thunder in the last hour or two so if you are pppin9 last hour or two so if you are popping out in the next say hour, i dont know, walk the dog, may be going for a morning jog. At the moment, noticed there is a lot of cloud across southern parts of the uk and that is bringing bits and pieces of light rain and drizzle. About a central, southern england, the south west. There is a weather front close by that is moving away quickly. It is these showers here i am talking about, these are quite heavy across scotland and the west country. And parts of wales as well. Here we could have some brief, heavy showers moving through. Now, today, it isa showers moving through. Now, today, it is a mixture of sunshine and showers and most the time it will be sunny and then occasionally we get that sprinkle carried on that atla ntic that sprinkle carried on that atlantic wind. It is not quite as windy as it was yesterday in the north west. Yesterday we had winds subdued gale force on the coasts and todayit subdued gale force on the coasts and today it is just a strong breeze out there. As far as tonights concerned, there is no real change was not if you are watching this time yesterday, i was talking about this big low pressure over us, big and terms of its size, not necessarily the strength of the wind on the amount of rain it is bringing. It is a large low pressure, you can see it is stretching from almost iceland, across the uk, into the baltic and across the uk, into the baltic and across latvia. It takes time for it to barrelled through and it is only moving so quickly. And of course the winds spiral around it within it and it carries in those showers. Tomorrow, still more of the same across the north west of the uk. You can see some lobs of blue and some showers but the further south and east you are, the drier it will be all your least likely to catch the showers you are. High teens in the north, low 20s in the south. There is a subtle change on tuesday, the winds will start to come in from the winds will start to come in from the south west rather than the north west so that means that a little bit of later on in the week, the temperatures will start to pick up the temperatures will start to pick upa the temperatures will start to pick up a little bit and yes, there is a hint, it is onlyjust a hint right 110w hint, it is onlyjust a hint right now and there is no guarantee, that is as we go to the end of the week, those temperatures might be creeping back up to summertime values and you can see it widely across the uk into the 20s. No guarantee but my bets are that summer is not over yet. That is what i like to hear we make and how much would you put on that . Not much yet, ask me in a couple of not much yet, ask me in a couple of days. Tomorrow sees the launch of the bbcs focus on farming. They are brilliant, brilliant for clearing the land and actually, strangely enough, different cows have Different Levels of digestibility so they are able to do Different Things for the land and actually, longhorns are particularly good at turning over the land and getting more things in their car parts which actually more insects and things benefit from. There you 90, and things benefit from. There you go, stuff you never knew. Every day isa go, stuff you never knew. Every day is a school day. Well done, well done. Now on breakfast, its time for the film review. Hello, welcome to the film review on bbc news. And to take us through this weeks cinema releases is james king. So james, what have we got . Well, weve got leo, brad and margot, as i like to call them, teaming up for Quentin Tarantinos ninth film, once upon a time in hollywood. And dora the explorer goes from cartoon to live action and searches for the lost city of gold. And if youre desperate for a film where12 year olds say disgusting things, youre in luck. Good boys is also out. Well, lets not start with the 12 year olds, lets start in hollywood and quentin tarantino. How is it . Its just a lot of film. Its a film i have seen a couple of times, im desperate to see it again. So we go back to 1969 hollywood for this movie, a changing time. It was, we really see the Youth Culture and the counterculture starting to encroach upon the old guard, upon the mainstream. And it focus on three different people. One is rick dalton, hes an actor played by Leonardo Dicaprio, who feels like his moment has passed. He feels middle aged and too old for this whole game. Cliff booth is played by brad pitt, who is ricks best friend, his stuntman, and then you have sharon tate, played by margot robbie. Sharon tate was a real person, she was a real actor, married to roman polanski, and she is the opposite, her star is on the rise. So its these three people over a few days in hollywood, 1969. This is a clip where rick is desperately trying to get some stunt work for cliff. Lets have a look. And i cant afford to hire a bunch of guys that Smoke Cigarettes and sit around talking to each other all day in the chance i might use them. I got a four man team here. I need more than that, i got to get it approved. I got to look after my dudes. Hey if your dudes were a better match i would say ok, you got me, but thats not the case and you know it. He is a great match for me. Yes. You could do anything you wanted to him. Throw him off a building, right. Light him on fire, hit him with the lincoln. Get creative, do whatever you want. Hes happy for the opportunity. Rick . Yeah. I dont dig him. And i dont dig the vibe he brings on set. Well Leonardo Dicaprio looks like hes having fun. Are they all having fun . I think so. That is one thing that actors get in a tarantino movie, they can go to town. And there are some big tarantino esque moments. Hes known for big, flamboyant, ott moments, there are a couple of those in the film. Absolutely. But i think it is a slightly more melancholy and mature film from him. Because it is about growing old, its about two guys having midlife crises, and with the sharon tate storyline, obviously, in the background of the whole film, theres the manson family, the manson family cult, which brings us a much darker side to the story. So there is a lot going on. Yes, if you want your big ott tarantino moments you just saw a clip of bruce lee there are moments like that in the film. But i think overall, its much more serious, more authentic, perhaps less immediate than some of the other films, but it is one, you know, as i said, i have been to a couple of times, i think its a film you will want to revisit because there is so much going on. I have seen criticisms that it is self indulgent a bit and that the sharon tate character, played by margot robbie, who is obviously a great actress, she just isnt given enough lines. Yes. Yeah. She doesnt have a lot of dialogue, that is true. I think there is a problem that it is margot robbie. Because shes famous, we expect her to be in it more. Shes a supporting character, shes not a lead. Shes a supporting character, shes not one of the leads. If it was someone less famous we wouldnt focus on that quite so much. But there are moments where it is about her and she doesnt say anything, but through facial expressions she says so much. Theres a scene where sharon tate is watching one of her own films at the cinema, its perhaps the most beautiful moment in the film. She doesnt say anything, but you get the sense of what shes trying to convey. So its not all about dialogue. We havent mentioned violence a lot yet. I mean, tarantino, cataclysmic violence quite often, what about here . Yes, certainly some moments, some explosive violence, but i think overall it feels slower, it feels calmer, and it does just feel more mature. This is his ninth film. He has been making movies for, what, 27, 28 years, now . Hes not the young buck that he once was. That is very much reflected in this film. Its about people who arent quite as young and cool as they used to be. Let us move on to dora and the lost city of gold. Does it strike gold . Its actually fun, this. Its a live action version of the cartoon series. Its huge on kids tv. In the cartoon shes young, probably about six in the cartoon. In this live action version she has been aged up, shes a now teenager, 16 years old. Leaves the rainforest where shes brought up and goes to la to hang out with her cousin. Still very adventurous though. One good thing about the tv show, it has been quite moral and upright. Quite educational, very strong on celebrating latino culture. Its all still there in the movie but the key difference is that it is co written by a guy called nick stoller, who also worked on the recent muppet films. If youve seen them, they send themselves up a bit. Theyre very respectful of the muppet legacy but they send themselves up and its the. I love that line, respectful of the muppet legacy. Youve gotta be respectful of the muppet legacy. This is absolutely respectful of the tv show, but it does have a laugh too. Theres a few knowing winks and a few knowing nods and gags in there for the adults who will take their kids. Ultimately, very clean cut, very sweet, very lovely, but there are some good jokes in there too. And the idea being that the jungle of school or secondary school is more scary than thejunglejungle. Yes, yes, yes. Exactly, its like you have seen it. Saw the trailer. It is a teen movie because of that, but i still think it plays to under tens. Its not like a proper teen film, its very much aimed at Young Children. Now talking about the Young Children, what about those 12 year olds and theirfoul language . Yes, good boys. So, its produced by seth rogan, he is a writer, producer and actor. Even though its about three 12 year old boys, because its produced by seth rogan, who made the brilliant film superbad several years ago, a fabulously filthy teen movie. This is like a junior version of superbad. So three boys, and theyre getting into trouble when they lose their drone in a neighbours garden. Lets have a look at good boys. Look, can we please have the drone back . If you dont give it back, ill tell my dad you stole it. And ill tell them youre a pervert. Well tell the whole school. This is sensual harassment. Well tell everyone youre a misogynist. I never misoged anyone. This is what happens when you dont respect women. I respect women my moms my best friend what about me . Does it work . Thats all we could show. Ah because . Because its fruity. Thats thejoke, thejoke is, its a 15 certificate film and its Young Children saying inappropriate things, and they say some things that will make you laugh out loud, and they say some things that will make your hair curl. Actually, as well as being funny, that is fairly truthful. I remember being 11 or 12 and you think you know everything, you have a lot of bravado, you dont really know what youre talking about, but you pretend you do and thats certainly reflected in the film. The interesting thing is, as the film goes on, it goes from being superbad to being more like stand by me. It starts to get quite poignant and starts to deal with issues of growing up and friendship and childhood. So yes, there is a lot of dirty jokes, its not for children, aimed at 15 year olds, but the surprise is at times it gets quite touching. I never expected that. And do you think, like the three 12 year olds in question are boys, right . Is it going to appeal to girls . Yeah, i think teenagers, i think thats the joke, is that they are too young to be saying this, and that is the joke. If you are a teenager youll find that funny. What do we do now . Lets talk about. Notorious, so this is the best film out at the moment. This is a reissue, bfi have reissued this, the classic hitchcock movie, Ingrid Bergman, cary grant. Actually theres a cary grant season at the moment at the Bfi Southbank in london at the moment, so it ties in nicely with that, and restored as well, so looking sparkling, like it could have been made yesterday, and the chemistry as well between cary grant and Ingrid Bergman is just still sparkling itself. So good together, this romance, shes undercover on a mission in rio, hes her government handler and they have a complex romance. Still looks brilliant, immaculate, perhaps a simpler story than some other hitchcock movies, but so glad to see it on the big screen. And it still has that brooding impending horror about it. So brooding. The tension is ridiculous. There are classic moments, scenes that go on for a long time, where youre at the edge of your seat because you dont know what is going to happen you kind of do because you have seen it before. But the tension is there, so even though its 73 years old. 73 years old 1946. 46, yes, still works. Just time for a look at a dvd, what is your favourite . Benjamin. This is out on dvd. Simon amstel wrote and directed this. Stars colin morgan playing the title character. Benjamin whi is kind of like simon amstel, because he is sort of a neurotic vegan film director. So this is a british film . Yes, romantic comedy. This is what happens when benjamin, whos a bit uptight, meets the new love of his life. This is a guy called noah, very laid back, french, very relaxed, musician. So, its a romcom, reminds me of annie hall, angst ridden romcoms, because theres so much anxiety in this. All the characters have neuroses, but very charming, very funny and packs a lot in. Its like 85 minutes long but it actually packs a lot in. And even better than that, there is a cameo from mark kermode in it youre kidding me who can have predicted it . What does he do . He plays himself, who else is he going to play . Yeah, so, great romcom, very romantic, very funny. And slightly younger than the annie hall generation. Yeah, i think so. It feels like its very much twentysomethings in london, trying to cope with life, trying to cope with being grown up. And poignantjust or funny enough . Oh, no, i think its both. It feels like its simon amstel reopening up his heart, showing to it the world and the results are very poignant. James, thank you. It has been great having you, come back again soon. Thank you. Now thats it for this week. Thank you for watching. Goodbye from our film review. Hello, this is breakfast with rogerjohnson and victoria fritz. Good morning, heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. The home secretary, priti patel, says more needs to be done to support the families of Police Officers who are killed or injured at work. Pc Andrew Harper died of multiple injuries as he responded to a suspected burglary in berkshire on thursday. Police have been given more time to question ten suspects aged between 13 and 30. The Prime Minister will meet Angela Merkel and president macron in the next few days to present his case for a new brexit deal. It comes as leaked government documents warn that britain could face medicine, food and fuel shortages in the event of a no deal brexit. Its mrjohnsons first trip abroad as Prime Minister. At least 63 people have been killed in an explosion at a wedding reception in the Afghan Capital of kabul. A suicide bomber detonated a device on saturday night. The blast left more than 180 wounded including children. The taliban have denied responsibility for the attack. The muslim convert known asjihadi jack, who travelled to syria to join so called Islamic State, has been reportedly stripped of his british citizenship according to the mail on sunday. Jack letts was 18 when he left his oxfordshire home in 2014. A Home Office Spokesperson said they do not comment on individual cases. The search for a 6 year old boy whos thought to have fallen into a river in kent will continue this morning. The childs believed to have fallen into the river stour near the town of sandwich. Fire and rescue crews joined police and coastguards after the boy was reported missing on saturday afternoon. 13 people have been arrested after a far right group rallying in portland clashed with left wing cou nter protesters. A huge Police Operation kept the two groups apart. Weapons including metal poles and shields were seized from both sets of protesters. The three remaining cooling towers at didcot power station will be demolished in a controlled explosion this morning. The site was built 50 years ago but stopped production in 2013. Thousands of people came to see the first lot of cooling towers demolished in 2014. All being well, we will bring you the pictures of the demolition as and when it happened. You look excited by that it is so clever, the way they do it. Anyone who has ever been. You are saying earlier, on the train is going past or on the 834 you go over ridgeway and there are these huge cooling towers on the horizon. Not for much longer the cricket, heading for what could be an exciting finish . Yesterday we saw fast bowling in its purest form. It was exhilarating, the pitch did all sorts. Then this huge scare when steve smith, who is australias danger man, a magnificent batsmen, was hit by a delivery of over 90 mph. It was just a reminder as to how dangerous cricket can be. Obviously we have the tragedy of Phillip Hughes a couple of years ago, and that really resonated among the australians. He is ok, may have to bat again today. Probably will, because it is really in the balance. We could get any result on the final day of the second ashes test. England lead by 104 runs with 6 wickets in hand. Can they get a big enough lead to declare and then bowl australia out to level the series . It could be another day for the fast bowlers. Our sports correspondent, joe wilson, was at lords. Everyone at lords knew the contest england against steve smith. Australias outstanding batsman reached his 50 before lunch, and remained on a different level. Fast, aggressive bowling is perfectly legitimate. Jofra archer was picked to do that and he excelled. Smiths blow to the arm was painful, but no fracture. A few minutes later, far more worrying for everyone. To see a batsman in this state is where cricket is put in context. As he turned, smith was hit in the neck. Australian batsmen Phillip Hughes died after a similar incident. There is obviously some pretty rough memories of a blow like that, so yeah, there was no finding it. Smith was led away from the playing field. Cricket has concussion protocol. When the next week it fell, look who came back out. The bravery was obvious to the majority who applauded, but apparently not to the minority who chose to boo. The australians insisted smith was ok, but he did eventually make a mistake, out finally four lbw 492. For steve to come back out having been hit the way he was, it does show some courage and character to do that. He has been incredible in the series so far. While steve smiths individual performance kept australia in the game, they finished the innings eight runs behind england, then bowled at them. Australia took four wickets by the close, but also know they should have taken more. England lead by 104. Manchester city thought that theyd scored an injury time winner and there were no complaints from tottenham at the Etihad Stadium but the cameras picked up a stray city handball that led to the goal, and it was ruled out. 2 2 the score on the final whistle but the var debate goes on. Ben croucher reports. Be it confusion, acceptance, anger. Everyone has got their own angle on var. You can see why. Manchester city thought they had snatched a winner against tottenham. Did you spot anything wrong with it . There is always someone watching, and they spotted this handball in the buildup tojesuss goal. And they spotted this handball in the buildup to jesuss goal. To win for the chances we created, i think we deserve to win, but in the end we didnt. City played well and thought they were heading for a 16th straight win when Sergio Aguero flicked them ahead before halftime. But tottenham came from behind to equalise, and when all hope, it seemed, was leaving the etihad, along with many of the fans, this dramatic winner was achieved. But then an even more dramatic twist. Hold on a second. I think the enjoyment factor is becoming less for supporters because of the handball rule and because of this. That should never, in any country anywhere, be disallowed. That should never, in any country anywhere, be disallowedm that should never, in any country anywhere, be disallowed. It was left to var to make a decision. Whatever your position, these new rules still keep us talking. So the champions slipped up, only two teams have a 100 record, liverpool are top of the table after a 2 1win at southampton. Sadio mane and Roberto Firmino put them 2 0 up with 20 minutes left to play before a howler from adrian in the liverpool goal made things interesting, he hit the ball straight to danny ings, who scored against his former side and saints were unlucky not to get an equaliser late on. Arsenal are the other side with two wins from two, the first time theyve done that at the start of the season for 10 years. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang scored their winner against burnley. 2 1 there as well. Newly promoted norwich city have their first win, teemu pukki scored 29 goals in the championship last season and he scored a brilliant hatrick against newcastle at carrow road in their 3 1 win. There were five league cup ties in scotland, places in the quarterfinals at stake. Four of the games went to extra time. One of them was at celtic park where James Forrest scored the winner against championship side dunfermline 2 1 there. Livingstone, hibs, kilmarnock and Partick Thistle also through to the quarterfinals. Two more ties this afternoon. Wales are top of the Rugby Union World rankings for the first time after they beat england in cardiff in the second of their world cup warm ups. The only try of the match came in the first half, george north scoring after a superb kick by dan biggar. England beat wales last weekend but went down 13 6 this time. That means new zealands ten year reign as number one is over. Its just a number, itsjust a number, isnt it . There are people who look at statistics and that sort of thing, people will make a lot of something that is not something. We were number one in the world at some stage, and that is a nice accolade to have, but it is all about the next few months and backing that up by performing well in the world cup. With the world cup injapan just over a month away, theres a bit of work for scotland to do, they suffered a heavy defeat to france, 32 3 the score in nice. In super league, hull fc missed out on the chance to go second in the table after losing to salford 44 22. And london broncos are still bottom but there was a huge win for them in perpignan against catalans dragons, alex walker scoring one of the tries in their 17 4 win. Broncos are now level with three other sides on 18 points. A bit of a dress rehearsal for the World Championship a shortage of intravenous feed supplies has been declared a National Emergency by Health Leaders and affects hundreds of patients across england. The situation is so serious the nhs is considering importing supplies from other countries to meet the needs of patients who depend on them. Alison freeman reports. Its a painstaking process that michelle has to go through every day, just to stay alive. She has Intestinal Failure and gets day, just to stay alive. It is called tpn, but at the end ofjune the supply to michelle and more than 500 people like her in england and became reliable. Unreliable. That is because the company that produces it was told by the regulator to change its manufacturing process immediately. It slowed the process so immediately. It slowed the process so much that they couldnt meet demand. Michelle has had to supplement her supply with products not suited to her. I suffered with cramping in my hands and feet, and i lost £4 last week. Pain in my calf muscles, a lot of headaches and numbness and tingling in my hands. I really fear that something terrible is going to happen. Ive been quite upset about it actually. A very worrying time, isnt it . For michelle and everyone else in that position. Michelle collingwood will join us later on the sofa to talk in more detail about the situation involving that particular nutrition products. Heres tomasz with a look at this mornings weather. Some sunshine today. Clouds appearing out of the middle of nowhere. A sprinkling of rain for ten minutes and then back to sunshine. At the moment, a fair bit of cloud across southern parts of the uk with this weather front that has been bringing a bit of drizzle through the early hours. Central, southern england, the southeast, east anglia as well. A little overcast but that is now moving away. Behind, the skies are clearing. But the showers have been heavy across scotland and it has been blustery across here with thunder. We have thunder across the south west as well. We are actually now and through the morning, wales, two. Broadly speaking it is the northern half of the uk today that it is the most frequent showers whereas in the south, it should be pretty much a dry day all the way through and very pleasant indeed. The winds are still pretty breezy, still coming off the atlantic and will continue to push off the showers. The low pressure is still to the north of the uk and it is still a large area of low pressure so still a large area of low pressure so it is still steak make taking its time to move across and that is why the weather, yesterday, today and tomorrow isnt actually changing of an awful lot. Within that 2000 mile diameter, the weather is more or less the same so if it takes two or less the same so if it takes two or three days to move through, the weather will be more or less two or three days the same. Again, sunshine and showers particularly across the northern half of the uk and again cracks of thunder possible. In the south, fewer showers. If you wonder why further showers make fewer showers further south, we are away from the low pressure. The low pressure is a slightly different because it is pushing in the air from the south west and that is a warmer direction and if we had to the middle and the end of the week, the middle and the end of the week, the temperatures will creep up again. Iam the temperatures will creep up again. I am quite hopeful that by around about thursday, friday and possible into next weekend, or the weekend hand, the temperatures are going to recover back to summertime values. We have had two unsettled weekends, this weekend and last weekends, this weekend and last weekend and we want a good weekend. Thank you so much, thomas. Now on breakfast its time for click. Heres something that splits opinion, you either love these or you hate them, depending really on whether you ride one, or whether youve had a Close Encounter with one. These e scooters are powered by electric motors and that leads to something really interesting that not many people know. In the uk, these things are not legal on public roads and they are not legal on public pavements. So, although theyre getting more and more popular, and companies are hiring them out to ride on private lands like here at the Queen Elizabeth olympic park in london, where theyre geofenced and speed limited, the law varies hugely around the world. One of the issues is that these things can reach speeds of over 30 miles an hour, which is very cool, but also very dangerous, again, depending on your experiences with them. Not long ago, presenter Emily Hartridge died while riding an e scooter. It was the first fatal collision involving one in britain. There have been similarfatal cases around europe. In france, there have been three e scooter deaths in the last four months, and there have even been deaths in los angeles where these are completely legal. So, whether its e scooters, segways, one wheelers or e skateboards, theres a lot of confusion over the legality of these new modes of transport. As omar mehtab has been finding out. Here, at one of the busiest intersections in london, the metropolitan police are on the lookout for electrically powered scooters. These eco friendly and easy to ride vehicles have exploded in popularity and are rapidly transforming the make up of road traffic in cities around the world. However, as spencer pointed out earlier, with e scooters freely available to buy in stores, many people dont know that theyre actually illegal to ride on public streets. When i bought it online they should have told us that there are legal to ride here. I mean, ijust spent £500 for nothing, basically. The problem is, these e scooters are electrically powered, so theyre classed as motor vehicles, which means you cant ride them on pavements or in bike lanes. And to ride them on roads, you need insurance, licensing, tax. Things you cant get for light e vehicles at the moment. And if you get caught . Well, in the uk, you could get up to six penalty points on your driving license and a fine of up to £300. This stops today was just about education, about letting them know you cant ride these things on the road, you cant use these things on the road. Recently, just down the road, there on rosemary avenue, was a fail to stop collision involving an e scooter and a 125cc scooter. I think it sends out the message that this needs to stop and the vehicles can only be used on private property or land. But, theres some confusion in the uk. The law states that personal transport devices powered by motors are prohibited for use on roads, pavements and cycle lanes. However, in the different categories listed, they dont specifically mention e skateboards, and that is catching some people out. This man was stopped by the police on his way to work, given a written warning, and while he got away without the hefty fine, he was informed that his e skateboad was illegal to ride. All the information i can find is that this ones are not illegal, like the electric skateboard is in the grey area, kind of, theres not really legislation that actually bans it. Until today, you know . And the police told me and i was like what . Very upset. I said i bought this, it cost me a lot of money, ive been riding it for nearly five months now, no issues at all, no accident, no issues. And now from tomorrow, i think from this afternoon, i have to take underground, exactly. There will be queries with regards to e skateboards as well as e scooters and other types of powered transport but we recognise there was a growing trend with the use of e scooters around london and awareness that people werent necessarily educated to the fact that they are illegal to use on the roads and footpaths. So we have issued a number fines and also seized some e scooters, but we are maintaining that message that we would like to educate the public first and foremost and sort of spread that message wide that they are actually illegal to ride on roads, on the pavement or in cycle lanes. We contacted the department for transport and they told us they are actively examining how these light e vehicles can be regulated for safe use on the roads. But, for now, they are still illegal. So, this is michael. Hes the one who first introduced me to e skateboards and he is a part of the community. So, that is the official line of the met, theyre illegal to use on the roads and pavements. What do you think of that . I mean, theyre not wrong. As a mechanically propelled vehicle they are illegal on the road because we dont have things like insurance or licensees for these devices. The problem is, there is no legislation out the moment for that, so we cant get insurance, we cant get licenses, and at the exponential rate the boards are being used, legislation needs to be put in place so we can get insurance. Its not like we dont want to, its just that we cant. If we can legally ride on the roads with every other road user, whatever the cost, if its legal, id say go for it. Right. Michael, thanks a lot for chatting with me. Appreciate it. Now, this is the bbc, its private land. So, im out of here right, lets talk money now, or more specifically, plastic. Now, the last Time Technology touched one of these things was more than ten years ago when they made them contactless. Wave and pay uses nfc or Near Field Communication technology and its really convenient, but not exactly secure. Not if you have your wallet nicked. Anyway, thats why they limit Contactless Payments to £30 or roughly the equivalent in other currencies. But that limit could be extended by quite a chunk if a new security feature is added. Dan simmons has been invited to test the uks first debit card that can read your fingerprint. Its a big moment in the world of money. Natwest and rbs are launching this although the real life ones will probably be smaller. And they should help wave goodbye to fraud. What were learning from customers is they want experiences to be simple and easy. This means they dont have to remember their pin, it means from a safety and security perspective, they dont have to worry about standing at a cash point and someone looking over their shoulder and seeing what their pin is. And we think customers are really going to the experience. Could they not get an imprint . No, its not csi, it doesnt work that way. It doesnt . 0k. So, a photograph . Nope. If i go hi, theyjust go, oh, yes, excellent theres enough pixels there and nick that . That wont work. On a glass, you know, like Police Evidence kind of things . The powder . No, that doesnt work. No . Nothing . No, sorry, your television dreams are shattered. If something goes wrong and i find that somebodys got my money but shouldnt have my money, will you give it back to me . What you can always do is block your card with one phone call. Is that a yes or a no, georgina . We review all Customer Experiences on a case by case basis. Right. Its arrived. Ive got a sort of of like a card reader and the card itself. Im going to need that Little Black Box to kind of register my thumbprint on the fingerprint reader. Ive been invited to take part in a three month trial. The small battery in the reader is enough to power the card. After seeing my thumb from five different angles, its happy its got my print. Now, of course google and apple pay systems using our mobile phones linked to a debit card and credit card offer similar biometric security for payments. But your phone costs a lot more, needs to be charged and its a lot bigger. My new card is no thicker than a standard debit card. A strip down of it shows whats going on. On the right is the fingerprint reader, theres no battery inside, instead an inductive loop, shown here in red, acts as an aerial for the card to receive power from the card terminal. The six dots at the top are the programming port. And its here, in the microcontroller, when my fingerprint is stored and verified. All on the card, so our biometric data never leaves our hands. A coffee please. Now using the card is pretty much as easy as it is at the moment, except you have got to put your thumb, or whatever finger youve registered, over the golden box, so it can recognise it when you make the payment. A green light flashes to show alls ok, and thats my plastic is not in some trickster tv producers mitts. Now the other big bonus i found is my new spending limit. Normally, Contactless Payments cap out at £30. But this allows me to spend up to £100 because of the additional security, and im told that by the time it comes to market, that limit could be limitless, which means i could get my weekly shopping, fill up my car, and buy a bike just with a tap of my card. So knowing all that will the card be secure . Gemalto is behind the tech. The actual sensor we use is dynamic, which means each time it reads your fingerprint it needs to be a 98 99 match. If there is a slight variation, a micro slash on your finger it will take that into account, so next time it knows that micro slash will be there. But does it then allow for someone with a similar fingerprint to get into the system . No, not at all, the variation is so small, there is not two people that would be within that level of variation. This would be the biggest change to payment cards for a decade, if the banks back it. Thats it for now. For the next couple of weeks were going to be recharging our batteries, so we will give you the chance to see again a couple of our favourite recent shows. We will still be here though, on the end of youtube, facebook, instagram and twitter, at bbcclick. So feel free to get in touch. Thanks for watching and we will see you soon.
