Lets turn to our top business story now, the tv streaming war, because the battle for your eyes and ears and your cash is about to get a lot more fierce in the coming weeks. Today, apple launches its tv service in 100 countries around the world. Apple hopes to take on Market Leader netflix and rivals hulu and amazon with a price ofjust 4. 99 a month. The morning show, a tv news drama starring jennifer aniston, is one of eight new series commissioned by apple for the launch. But disney is about to launch its own streaming service in less than two weeks, with another from hbo coming next year. Mark davies, ceo of the Strategy Consultancy Firm camberton, joins me now. We are lucky enough to have him with us. We are lucky enough to have him with us. What do you make of all of this . How much of a threat is apple tv to the more established likes of netflix . I would say not at all and either is disney because disney has all of the content so this is all about content, really, and apple are going to have to create content. And, you know, what they come out with, whether it proved to be popular or not, remains to be seen to the fact it is a Cheaper Service doesnt mean anything deeply significant. The question is what they are putting out on it. Why are they are putting out on it. Why are they doing this then . If it will cost them a lot of money to do and they cannot win in the game, why enter the race at all . Because people are not buying enough of their phones. It is the big challenge for them. They ultimately are Hardware Company and they produce phones and computers and because we have now got to a point where the smart phones do so much, you dont need to upgrade necessarily, and people have got to the stage where they dont automatically upgrade their phone every couple of years. And therefore, their sales are slowing and they need to find ways of diversifying their revenues. So they are moving into content as a result, seeing if they can take all of the people who have an apple smartphone and iphone and getting them to spend money on it with apple because the time that they spend at the time of purchase does not come around often enough so they are using content to do that. It is a big bet for them. And an expensive one as well. Thank you, mark, see you in 30 minutes time to go through the papers. Right now, the only way to stop the spread is containment and the culling of infected animals. In china, the worlds leading pork producer, over a million pigs have been culled. Many millions more are believed to have died of the fever itself. Translation i think that in the short term, we are not heading towards an improvement. We will continue to have more outbreaks in the infected countries. Neighbouring countries are at high risk and for some, the question is more of when they will be infected. Swine fever has spread to vietnam, south korea, the philippines. Eastern europe has had cases, too, and now, western europe is preparing. An investigation by bbc news arabic has found women being put up for sale online in kuwait as Domestic Workers. A un expert has described it as an illegal online slave market. The investigation found that instagram, which is owned by facebook, along with apps available on google and apple, are being used to trade people without their knowledge or consent. One app user even offered to sell a 16 Year Old Girl to the bbcs undercover team. Jess kelly reports. We have heard of Domestic Workers being sold in kuwait using apps available on google play and the apple app store. We went undercover to try to expose this illegal trade. We found hundreds of women being advertised on facebook owned instagram using dedicated hashtags. Most women had no idea they were being advertised for sale online. We arranged to meet a seller who was advertising a Domestic Worker on the kuwaiti app asale. Her price 2,300 us. He told us he was a policeman and boasted about how he controlled her everyday life. Permits for Domestic Workers are attached to their employer but the apps have created a black market where the permit and the person can effectively be resold. We arranged to meet another seller, advertising a Domestic Worker from africa for 3,800 us. She is trying to sell a child for Domestic Work, which is illegal. This is the quintessential example of modern slavery. If google, apple, facebook or any other company is promoting apps like these, hosting apps like these, they are promoting an online slave market. Following our investigation, asale has removed its Domestic Work ad section and said. Facebook, which owns instagram, told us. But the bbc has found hundreds of women still being advertised on instagram using other hashtags. Romania is one of the biggest producers of honey in europe, but its beekeepers face many challenges, from the pesticides which kill their bees to the sheep which over graze the flowers from which the bees gather pollen. Nick thorpe sent this report. This is a beekeeper in a village in the town of the valley in the heart of transylvania. He is also the village priest. He is an itinerant beekeeper. Each spring he packs his hives into a green truck and sets out south east to the danube river to follow the blossoming of the acacia and sunflowers, the linden and the rapeseed, as it spreads across the country. The problem is that romania still didnt reach all the european regulations. We still use pesticides that are not approved and the rest of europe, and they are not good for the bees. While small producers generate most of romanias honey, big agribusinesses yield much stronger influence. Some of the chemicals they use in their fields have been banned elsewhere in europe, exactly because of the harm they do to bees, but romanian farmers still use them. Translation u nfortu nately, farmers still use them. Translation unfortunately, beekeepers are right most of the time. Sometimes to get a bigger profit we may overdo the spraying. We may use some product that stay longer in the soil, and these are fatal for the bees. Back here in transylvania, there are plenty of wildflowers, even in september, like these goldenrod, for the bees to feast on, and less chemicals to threaten them. But beekeepers here face many challenges, as well, to keep their bees healthy. This is one of the last saxon germans in his village. The others left just last saxon germans in his village. The others leftjust before or after the fall of communism. The bees kept him here, and the beauty, he says. While other beekeepers hit the road with their hives because of the shortage of flowers in mid summer, he stays put in the village. His main problem is the shepherds. Translation in the old days here we had many vineyards. Between the meadows of White Flowers where white clover group. Sadly that is all gone now, as well as the wild sage. The fields are over grazed by sheep, and they eat the clover before it can come into flour. If there are so many problems, i asked each beekeeper i met, why do you still keep bees . Because its the cleanest form of farming, ion told me. The only one where you can lick your fingers after work. Tell me what you think about our talking point today. How important is asleep to you . Scientists now say it could stave off things like alzheimers. They sent out a tweet earlier, stephen replying i am a 24 year old shift worker. Seeing what years of missed sleep has done to my coworkers, he is definitely going to leave in the next few yea rs. Going to leave in the next few years. Someone else tweeting at 4 20am uk time today. I take your point. See you soon. Hello. The first few days of november are looking decidedly unsettled. Were going to see some wet and blustery weather across the uk, and for some of us there is the potential for some stormy weather, at least for a time. Its all because of low pressure, of course, drifting in from the west. Various frontal systems spiralling around the low, that means there will be some outbreaks of rain at times. But with that low pressure we will have a south westerly flow of air across during friday. That means something considerably milder. Certainly a milder start to the day. Outbreaks drifting across scotland eastwards across england. Then we see a zone of drier and potentially brighter weather before more outbreaks of rain return to northern ireland, wales and the south west by the end of the day. Those temperatures just a touch higher than they have been, particularly in the south, 15 16 degrees. Maybe cooler, at nine degrees, in glasgow. Into friday night, further bands of rain driving north eastwards across the country but the winds becoming an increasingly big feature of the weather, as our area of low pressure deepens. Ill show you saturdays weather chart. You can see the low here. There is a little uncertainty about the exact positioning and the exact shape of this low pressure system, but on its northern and particularly southern flank, you can see a lot of white lines, a lot of isobars, meaning there will be some very strong wind and also some outbreaks of rain just lumbering around that area of low pressure. Now, therell also be some drier, brighter interludes, and in the centre of the low, the potential for somewhat lighter winds. But to the north and particularly to the south, there are likely to be some very gusty winds and those wind gusts might get to 70 mph or more towards the south coast of england. So those conditions will be very stormy indeed. The potential for some travel problems and some localised disruption. Worth staying tuned into the forecast if you have plans on saturday. As we move out of saturday into sunday, the low pressure is still with us, but the white line just stretches apart a little, meaning the wind will be a little lighter. There will still be outbreaks of rain at times, but at least a fighting chance of seeing some dry weather and some spells of sunshine, and top temperatures of 10 14 degrees. This is the business briefing. Im victoria fritz. Kicking and streaming the fight comes to netflix as apple tv launches in 100 countries, with rivals from disney and hbo not far behind. Plus, non brexit day another deadline missed, another round of costly uncertainty for thousands of businesses. And on the markets, asian shares bouncing back after a survey suggested that chinas factories are finally seeing business improve after months of declines
