Coming week. But today a brief respite, lots of sunshine on offer across the uk. There are some showers round, mainly affecting north sea coasts it has to be said. They should ease as the afternoon goes on but the stormy conditions we have are clearing east ward and out to the west, a transient ridge of higher pressure which is helping to settle things down, but round that, we are feeding in cooler air, on a north westerly breeze but notice this wedge of something milderjust waiting in the atlantic, so the showers i mentioned here they are nicely on the radar image. As we go through the afternoon they should gradually ease and the blustery wind here should gradually start to ease down too. Elsewhere through the rest of the day, a good slice of some sunshine, winter sunshine out to the west for western parts of Northern Ireland and north west scotland, we may just start to see the cloud increase. It will feel cool, we may just start to see 10 celsius to the far south and west. Clear skies by day means by night the temperatures will plum net. Initially but out to the west, the next system starts to edge its way in. The winds will strengthen and rain will begin to move in. East anglia and the far south east may hang on to clear skies, and here we could see a patchy frost to start tuesday morning. Across the board, tuesday is going to be a blustery day. Any Early Morning brightness giving way to cloud and this rain starts to push in. Gales along western faces coasts and over the Higher Ground in the north with rain, which could become heavy in the afternoon with squally winds too. Temperatures will be up into double figures but with the strength of the wind it will feel cold. The milder air gradually gets squeezed out and we are back in cooler conditions as we head into wednesday. Dominated by this area of low pressure, sitting to the north of scotland. Another breezy day for many, but gales for the northern parts of scotland. While there will be dry bright sunny intervals to start off with, gradually as the day goes on we will start to see showers which could be heavy, thundery with heal mixed in and the temperatures once again back down into single figure, for thursday, another area of low pressure will bring a spell of low pressure will bring a spell of wet and windy weather, and an improving story as we head through a reminder of our top story. Russia have been given a four year ban from all major sporting competition, by the world Anti Doping Agency. It means the russia flag and anthem will not be allowed at events such as the Olympic Games in tokyo next year and the world cup in 2022. Wadas executive committee met today and voted unanimoulsy to impose the ban, after russias own Anti Doping Agency was found to have manipulated laboratory data. Athletes who can prove they are clean will be allowed to compete under a neutralflag but wada felt they had no choice but to take strong action. I think the change of behaviour that is required from whoever it is in russia that has caused all this to happen, im not optimistic at all that that will change. They have had three swings at the bat, struck out three swings at the bat, struck out three times. Duplicity, deceit and deception exhibited isjust three times. Duplicity, deceit and deception exhibited is just beyond the pale. And i think its an embarrassment to the athletes in the world that now at this stage they are fighting for the rights of their clea n are fighting for the rights of their clean athletes, as they call them meanwhile we have restored all the detail which could either exonerate them find that they are guilty. So that within itself is another layer of deception. Centuries from danni wyatt and Tammy Beaumont helped englands women to a 75 run win over pakistan in the First One Day International in kuala lumpur. The pair shared a first wicket stand of 188, as england made 284 for six. Kate cross then took four pakistan wickets. These three odis are englands last fixtures in the icc womens championship, which determines qualification for the 2021 world cup, which theyre all but certain of making. Really happy with that. Exceptionally happy for danny white today, to get her First International 100. That was tough. In the heat. I thought it was quite a hard wicket, but obviously she was playing differently. It is one of the more ugly runs perhaps as a bit ofa the more ugly runs perhaps as a bit of a tag for that one. New Zealand Police say they dont expect to find any more survivors from a volcanic eruption on a small island. Five people are confirmed dead but others are missing. Samantha olley is a reporter for nz me and took a flight close to the volcano after the eruption. She described what she saw. It was a great steaming monstrosity. There is a large crater lake inside white island. Otherwise known as whakaari. The crater lake was steaming a lot more than usual. There were many more vents, but the main difference was that the entire crater was covered in green and grey ash, which is not normally here. And the cloud, there was a large white cloud initially above the crater lake. And then that slowly grew to a more grey colour as the ash spread to the east. And in the eastern side of the island and the sea, you could see that the ash had to change the colour of the sea. It had turned to a brown colour, is the ash had come out of the sky. And also flowing out from a river which flows into a nearby beach. Emergency crews cannot get to the island. It is simply too dangerous. We were very lucky to be able to fly over today and in fact whenever the wind changed, you could smell the sulphur before you knew that the cloud was slightly moving and we would have to fly away from that. There was a reporter who flew over white island shortly after the volcano erupted. More now on the general election. Shadow chancellowjohn mcdonnell has promised to end austerity in a speech setting out labours priorities for its first 100 days in government. Hes been speaking to our assistant political editor, norman smith. Well, the shadow chancellorjohn mcdonnell set out labours radical and rapid agenda today, pledging within days to set up this new National Investment bank to start pouring money into areas of the countries which have been left behind. Also suggesting they would begin work on a budget eight weeks later which would be designed to end austerity. John mcdonnelljoins me 110w. Austerity. John mcdonnelljoins me now. I set out such a daunting timetable . Because the issues facing require it. There is an emergency in out require it. There is an emergency in our public services. High levels of poverty. We are also facing a climate emergency. The skill of our response has to be great because the challenges are so great. The sense of urgency is to get the first budget in, we are talking about fifth february, within eight weeks of us coming into office. We can get the money into the nhs, education and policing. We will be able to install the real living wage of £10 per hourand give install the real living wage of £10 per hour and give our Public Sector workers a pay increase. We would be able to tackle some of the iniquities of universal credit. What do you say to those who say it has a wind of change after years of uncertainty over brexit . Alongside that, we are securing a new deal on brexit and we can put it back to the british people. It will be the people decide the future on brexit and then we will implement it. The scale of the challenge we face is because we have had ten years of austerity, ten years of economic mismanagement and ten years of frankly incompetent government. We need a new dynamic government to tackle the priorities of people have. Lifting people out of poverty, tackling homelessness, funding schools properly. People have to have another mind that child portrayed in the newspapers this morning, with pneumonia, being treated on the floor at leeds hospital. We cannot allow that to continue in our society. We need an urgent injection of funds into the nhs. You set out details of how these new Nationalised Industries will be run. You suggest there will be representatives from consumer groups, workers and the public. They will be publicised and online. How practical is that for making important decisions . These are models that operate elsewhere effectively, particularly in europe. You need expert management. The expertise of the workers who deliver those services as well. We need to ensure consumers and passengers have a voice and of this. They are the people have been ripped off for so long by privatisation. We will have a new form of public ownership, well managed, a new form of public ownership, well managed, invested in a new form of public ownership, well managed, invested in the long term, but not for profiteering. Making sure people get a decent service. We believe we will be able to bring down the charges that people face. You raised questions about Boris Johnsons trustworthiness. I think you said he was the least trusted politician we have ever seen. You echoed comments from arlene foster. Are you calling borisjohnson a liar . Its notjust me, and everybody else. 0f borisjohnson a liar . Its notjust me, and everybody else. Of course i am. Idont me, and everybody else. Of course i am. I dont believe borisjohnson is any moral compass whatsoever. Arlene foster has proved it. He lied to the dup. You went to their conference and said there would be no border, no checks. Whilst he was doing that, the government was enabling processes for that to happen. Arlene foster has called them out. This is the leader of a sister party. Of course she is right. This is a man you cannot trust. But you cannot allow him to go back into number ten and wreck our public services, continue austerity. The 155 said in the tory manifesto that austerities heartbeat. I believe the fundamental threat of Climate Change is so important now that we cannot allow them to get back. Everyone will have a view on borisjohnson. He has been in public life. The idea that he is perhaps not as trustworthy at sea should be, people will have formed their views. Making this an issue in their views. Making this an issue in the last days of the campaign, will this have an impact . Is not me making it an issue. Its his own political partner in arlene foster. The real issues for us is to make sure we will sort brexit out. You cant trust a word Boris Johnson is sent over brexit. We know he cant do the deal in that timeframe. It takes years. He is threatening a no deal brexit once again. The other matters, the nhs is in crisis. School budgets have been cut year after year. Police removed from the streets. All sessions are coming to the fore in this debate now. The existential threat of Climate Change. There were children have taught us what a threat that is. If we dont address that in this general election, i dont believe our children or grandchildren will ever forgive us. John mcdonnell, thank you for your time this morning. The message is, radical and rapid change if labour wins the next general election. I back norman smith. Brexit has been a key issue for the Political Parties throughout their election campaigns, but have their claims stacked up . Our reality check correspondent chris morris has been examining the main parties biggest promises. Well, it was brexit and the unresolved arguments rolling around ina unresolved arguments rolling around in a blot on the selection. Inevitably, its never been far from the surface during the campaign. This is the conservative manifesto. You might recognise the slogan, get brexit done. Promising to take britain out of the eu at the end of january. Thats just the divorce, not the future arrangements. There will be more. I think some voters might be disappointed that the future negotiations drag on beyond that. Theoretically, it is possible to get a trade deal by the end of 2020, but i think there will be difficult. Partly because we have to decide what we want and partly because the eu will need to play ball and im not convinced they will. If a trade deal is not done at the end of december 2020, the end of the end of december 2020, the end of the post brexit transition period, there is every chance of another no deal brexit drama dominating headlines again. The brexit party wouldnt mind leaving with a no trade deal. But labour has a different plan. We negotiate a brexit deal within three months and then put it to another referendum, with an option to vote to remain on the ballot paper, all within six months. But is that realistic . M the ballot paper, all within six months. But is that realistic . It is ambitious. There is a certain time frame regarding referendums, so that we make sure the question is not misleading and the right forms of literature has been distributed. The idea of renegotiating with you in three months is used ambitious. If you want to tear up the red lines from borisjohnson you want to tear up the red lines from Boris Johnson and theresa you want to tear up the red lines from borisjohnson and theresa may, that could lead to months and months of negotiations, not weeks. Plaid cymru, the greens and the snp also wa nt cymru, the greens and the snp also want another referendum. But the lib dem manifesto promises to revoke article 50, stopping brexit altogether, keeping the uk in the eu without further delay. This is the port tracker. It brings together information from a variety of opinion polls. A snapshot. It suggests the most likely outcomes this week would be a tory majority, brexit now with the future unclear, ora hung brexit now with the future unclear, or a hung parliament, so renegotiate a deal, but with the future unclear. In other words, brexit has drawn a lot of old political certainty is right up in the air. The most polluting firms are likely to lose 43 of their value by 2025 thanks to policies designed to combat Climate Change, a report says. Meanwhile, the most Progressive Companies will see an uplift of 33 in their value. The forecast was commissioned by the un backed principles for responsible investment, which comes as World Leaders gather in madrid for the uns cop 25 conference on Climate Change. Our environment analyst Roger Harrabin reports. It is already evident that sectors like coal are threatened if governments clamp down on the emissions that are over heating the planet. The study goes a step further and examines the likely impact of Climate Policy on firms within each sector. For instance, it forecasts that car makers concentrating on electric vehicles will increase in value by 108 , whilst firms stuck on petrol vehicles will lose value. Power firms who have invested in Renewable Energy could see the value of their shares increase by 104 , whilst those reliant on fossil fuels could see their worth fall by two thirds. Mining firms producing Minerals Critical for the new era, such as cobalt for batteries, may see a 54 upturn, whilst others could see their values halve.
