From tomorrow. Protesters against italys far right hard during the campaign and to lose your seat . Party, the league, gather in rome for whats expected to be nobody enjoys losing their seat. The biggest demonstration yet by grassroots activists, that call themselves the sardines. But i am just really Dwayne Johnson and jack black are back in body swap sequel, privileged that i represented jumanji the next level. See what mark kermode thinks of that in the film review. Sedgefield for 12 years, where i grew up and where i still live and always will live. So it was a great privilege to represent the people, a lot of whom i grew up with. If you dont mind me saying, it is clearly very emotional . Yeah, i mean you have lost your seat. And especially one where you live so it is difficult. But it is, at the same time, good evening, and you have got to step back and look welcome to bbc news. At the reasons behind why this seat the Prime Minister this afternoon was lost to the conservatives. Promised cheering supporters and why do you think that was . In the north of england i think there is a big that he will repay their trust disconnect at the moment between the labour party telling them theyd changed the Political Landscape, the conservative party and its labour supporters. And the country for good. This is a traditional labour area, a surge of conservative support in traditional labour seats helped his party to its biggest the north east of england. And i think we have got to, if were election win in 30 years. Going to re gain seats like this, we have got to re establish that. And obviously the big issue meanwhile, scotlands first minister has said the conservatives cant on the doorstep wasJeremy Corbyn. Stand in the way of a second independence referendum. And the labour leadership has today reiterated that its defeat and anybody, any activists who say was caused by brexit. It was anything other Boris Johnson has been addressing voters in one than that was one of the main of his partys new constituencies, reasons actually you know. Sedgefield in County Durham which was held by tony blair. If you say any different, heres what he said. They havent been out, canvassing. So what do people say to you on the doorstep . This is a brexit area, i have got a particular view i want to thank all of you for on brexit which is that the people the trust that you have placed in us should have the final say, in the conservative party and in me. Especially on borisjohnsons deal i know how difficult it was, and it can be, to make because he led the leave campaign, and people have the right to compare that kind of decision. His deal with what he promised. And i imagine peoples pencils hovering over the ballot paper and i think that is and wavering before coming down pretty straightforward. For us and the conservatives. So for everyone person who raised brexit with me on the doorstep, i know that people may have been breaking the voting habits there would be five people of generations to vote for us. I want the people of the north east to know who raised Jeremy Corbyn. That we in the conservative party, and i, will repay your trust. Cheering. And the issues would be people didnt think he isnt fit everything that we do, everything to be Prime Minister, i do as your Prime Minister, will be that it was all this stuff around terrorism, around the fact devoted to repaying that trust. That they did not think he was competent enough to be Prime Minister, he did not represent their kind of labour. First of all, what ill be going to do to repay. And the kind of labour around we are going to get here is pretty, you know, brexit done, arent we . We have a deal ready to go. Patriotic. Now, can anybody tell me what kind of deal it is . Its an area of the can anybody give me. Country where there was a lot of recruitment give me the culinary for the armed forces characteristics of that deal again. Over the decades. And people from that kind of background have a bit it is oven ready, it is ready to go. Of resentment, a bit of resentment every single one of our wonderful from a leader of the labour party mps, our new mps, that now, who does not seem to represent do you support that deal . They do, they all back it, that and then of course we have 100 support. It is the old world view we can get it in just before christmas, we havejust been where their worldview to me seems going over the timetable, we can definitely get it to be one which is anti west, in before christmas. It seems to be one that does not then, we are out on january the 31st. But there is much more promote the values of the west, that we want to do to repay which is very important. The trust of the british people, and the trust of the people and also, the economic competency here in the north east. Of the leadership, where, you know, we want, of course, to improve fantastic National Health service, so many people would say i like some thats why we are making the biggest parts of your manifesto investments for a generation. But as a whole, it does not add up. How many new hospitals . How many more nurses . 50,000 more yes, and we will get on and deliver on those objectives. Particularly one person said to me, two plus two equals four but in the world of this manifesto we will make the streets safer across the whole of the uk it makes five or seven or eight. By investing in how many did you feed this back to the top . More police, initially . Did you say we are 20,000, absolutely, struggling on the doorstep. Absolutely correct. We will improve our education, they have known, i have been pretty open over the years the money is already going in, about the relationship to every primary school, every secondary school between labour voters in areas in the country. 4000 per pupil in the primary, 5000 like this and the leadership, per pupil in the secondary school. And i knew at the last election what the relationship was, what we want to do, as conservatives, we want to take and that was breaking down in 2017. Our country forward by uniting but people have had another two years to harden their views around and levelling out across the whole the current labour party, its leadership and its worldview. Of our incredible united kingdom. And they dont like it. And we do it with a very simple idea, its by investing in better infrastructure, would you have lost your seat better education, and fantastic do you think if labour modern technology. Had a different leader . And give those things to every part of the united kingdom, and we will spread opportunity well, i never take any election across the whole of for granted but so many people said the united kingdom, because that is fundamentally what we in the conservative to me on the doorstep, party believe in. Phil, if you had a different we believe in giving opportunity to everyone, leader, id vote for you. We believe that talent is evenly youd walk it. Distributed throughout our there wouldnt be a problem. Country but opportunity youd probably form is unfairly distributed. The next government. We are going to rectify that as a one nation so they thought that, conservative government, and the one thing that was holding as a peoples government. That is what we are going to do. Them back from voting labour was the current leadership of the labour party, and you cant get away from that. Well, the Prime Minister so did Jeremy Corbyn has rejected demands lose you your seat . From the Scottish National party for yes. Has anybody. A second independence referendum. The snp leader, nicola sturgeon, warned that westminster must not has he, john mcdonnell, any of the labour top stand in the way of efforts team, been in touch . No, no. To pursue a second vote. I wouldnt have thought they would be. And its. My plan is the one i put before you know, i never take these the scottish people on thursday elections for granted. And got an endorsement and mandate for, so i will continue i never have and i never would, to pursue that. Look, the tories probably havent if i ever stand again. Yet really come to terms with what happened on thursday. They were rejected in scotland, but when its every doorstep, they put the issue of opposition its the same issue, to an independence referendum, then you know youve got a problem to use Jackson Carlaws words, and you know what the problem is, on the ballot paper. And to try and disguise it, they lost a vote share, they lost more than 50 of their seats which i think the leadership of the labour party is now by saying it was a catastrophic defeat it was brexit or its for the tories on that single issue. The Mainstream Media, so, the tories will rage against this, im sure, just sort of like, man up, for as long as they possibly can. Basically, because the problem just as in the 1990s was Jeremy Corbyn. When they set their face against the establishment it was the worldview of a scottish parliament, that was being promoted they will find now that they cant by him and his leadership. Ultimately block the will and weve got to face up to that. Of the scottish people. I think the danger for them is the longer they try to do that, and if you complain the more contempt they show for scottish democracy, the more they will increase about the Mainstream Media and then support for independence. They find all these stories so, to supporters of independence, about terrorism and about hamas i would simply say the mandate and hezbollah, then dont go and the momentum is very clearly and talk to them and dont be seen on our side. Your will is strong, with them and then expect to get the treatment that, you know, borisjohnsons will is strong were at a complete impasse not to expect the treatment youve been getting off here, arent we . The Mainstream Media. His will is not going to dissolve, so a lot of the stories, theres no and yours isnt either. Smoke without fire, basically. Well, impasses tend to break. I think they break. Jeremy corbyn said this morning history in scotland shows this, that he wont lead labour into another general election. They break in favour of democracy. Is that enough right now, Boris Johnson and i can take, or should he have resigned . As im sure we will continue taking, he should resign. Diametrically opposed positions ithink, you know. On the question of independence. I think, if he decides to stay on, if its not into the next election, i think its best for scotland, which is, i would assume, he disagrees thats legitimate, in 202a, thats obviously five thats perfectly fine to have that disagreement. Years, then, you know, ultimately, the democratic case, thats going to do even more damage is that it is not for him and labour voters are just or for i to determine, its for the people going to think that were not taking scotland to determine. Them seriously, you know. He can try and stand in the way of that, but he wont be able to ultimately. As i say, history, you dont have and youve got to fess up, to look back that far, to some extent, my formative years the project has failed, or the. You know, the. In politics were spent the project has failed, in the late 80s, and youve now got to leave have a scottish parliament. The stage and vacate it for somebody else, who might be able to bring they couldnt stop it because they the labour party back to labour couldnt stand in the way and will voters and our labour communities of the scottish people. The same will be to this time too. That are now faced, because of this whole debacle, with five years of a tory government. And i think we can win seats like this back. I think in this general election, labour lost dozen seats in its traditional heartlands yesterday it seemed to me that everyone the shadow chancellorjohn mcdonnell was voting against something, was asked aboutJeremy Corbyns position and confirmed he wouldnt not for something. Be part of the next shadow cabinet. We always have an interim before so what has happened a new leader is elected so what better than to put the current team in, in sedgefield and in darlington, because there will be a queens speech and a budget, by the look of it, as well, in stockton south, in redcar, use that expertise can be reversed, but only without for the interim period, but also allow the rest of the party major kind of surgery to the body. The body politic to engage in that thorough debate of the labour party. About the future and weve got to face up to what the problems are, and the new leader, and it will be a constructive debate. Because if we dont, we will learn lessons theres no reason for why and listen to people the labour party should exist. About what went right and wrong, and then be ready. My fear is that were in for a long haul now, hello. Possibly five years. Its been quite a blustery feeling day out there, the two issues that we face with plenty of showers around. Are still there huge, some of the showers have been falling as sleet and snow grotesque levels of inequality and, secondly, the issue that over the highest ground never really emerged and they will continue to do so, particularly across the northern in the election campaign, half of the uk, through the course which was climate change, of this evening and overnight. This existential threat. That must be our priority. So a risk tonight of seeing some icy patches, particularly for parts of northern england, with brexit, we will see scotland and Northern Ireland, with further hill snow. So, if we concentrate what the government brings back on the course of tonight, thats where we will see in terms of their negotiations, snow showers over Higher Ground, but the people decided we need to implement that, for scotland, the southern uplands, but we have to get the best deal the Mourne Mountains of Northern Ireland, to protectjobs and the economy. The overwhelming issue was brexit, the pennines, also the mountains of wales seeing some thats the first thing, of that snow accumulating. And the labour party were caught at lower levels we will see a few on the horns of a dilemma. Rain showers overnight. Im an example of this. It will stay mostly frost free we had a party which was largely in the south, with enough supportive of remain, of a breeze to keep temperatures but many of us represented leave at three orfour degrees, constituencies, so if we went but a cold start to your sunday morning for the north. One way, to leave, it would have alienated a lot still some scattered showers on the cards for tomorrow but fewer of our remain support. Than we have seen today, if we went for remain, wed alienate a lot of our leave support. A little more in the way of sunshine, particularly in the east. We tried to bring the country together and it failed. Still some brisk winds, we could see we have to accept that, gusts of a0 mph or more, take it on the chin, especially around coastal parts. Own that and move on. Chilly, temperatures around 3 9, and feeling colder in the breeze. Goodbye. The new leadership coming in, i think, will enable us to move forward on the key issues, getting a brexit deal that works for all of us, tackling these grotesque levels of inequality, but the big one is climate change, and my fear is five years of a fossil fuel backed government, under Boris Johnson, means we will miss this five year opportunity of saving our planet. Chelsea were also on the receiving end of a surprise result at stamford bridge. Beaten 1 0 by bournemouth. Dan gosling scored the winner six minutes from time. His long standing critics just want him to go. I dont think you can have the proper, deep reflection that we need to have under the the goal was initially ruled out for offside before var leadership of a person who thinks intervened and overruled the assistant referees decision. That the programme is all right and its chelseas fourth defeat he worked really hard on the only in five league games. Thing that was wrong was that the media did not like him and that the 20 points behind liverpool in fourth, as close to bottom of the table as they are to the top. Brexit message was wrong. When labour mps return to westminster next week they will be a much we have to set our own standards and diminished group nearly 60 fewer the position we get ourselves in a of them than after the 2017 general few weeks ago going to manchester election. The party is looking for a city was can we look upwards . Now it has changed, now we need to show a new leader and a new deputy leader reaction and get results, we have and while Jeremy Corbyn new leader and a new deputy leader and whileJeremy Corbyn has called for a period of reflection, in truth tough games over christmas. This was battles are likely to rage over the a lwa ys tough games over christmas. This was always going to be the case as far reasons for labours to fit. And asi always going to be the case as far as i saw it, i got frustrated with today, one of the leading figures in people getting excited for us the leadership has announced that he because i knew over the course of the season with our squad there is withdrawing from the front line. Would be tough moments and now we the new leader will come in place, need to show. We had to come up with appoint a shadow cabinet and i will not be part of the shadow cabinet, i have done my bit. We need to move one at that stage with the new Something Different so we juggle leader and i think we will be in a things around, picked the Strongest Team we could, and we tried to dig position where we are learning lessons and listening to people. In and show a lot of spirit and what was it . It was notjust brexit, fight and determination and a lot of there was a long history of maybe a0 the quality as well because second half i thought we were a real threat yea rs of there was a long history of maybe a0 years of neglect. Northampton saints and glasgow ending in an england shirt, many warriors are amongst the teams in action a little later. Times elsewhere but the t20 is theres more on the bbc sport website, including englands womens cricketers winning their series against pakistan 2 0 after the third coming up. A lot of positives, three one Day International was abandoned with no result due to rain. Centurions. The emergence of a were back with the late news at 10. 10pm. A sense of frustration that for the First Time Ever they have played a one Day International against pakistan and been unable to force the victory. Nothing to do with them, that is the frustration of the weather here in kuala lumpur. From malaysia to australasia and melbourne in particular where its all got a little heated. Patrick reed came under fire after being accused of cheating last weekend. Now its his caddie whos taking the flack, thrown out of the president s cup after shoving a fan for verbally abusing reed. Kassler karain, who is also his brother in law, had defended his actions towards the end of his round in which reed was beaten for the third time this week. Chris mitchell reports. This is not the kind of drama the pta would have wanted pga, but i think it is the drama many of us saw coming. I have been in amongst the crowd at melbourne this week and they are pretty boisterous you have to say. And were focal point is patrick reed, everywhere he goes, he is followed by chants of cheat. And it can be worse and it can be a little bit crass and i am sure a bit irritating if you are him. Sometimes the spectators had one or two beers, shall we say . So we thought coming and it is no surprise it has boiled over, on the 16th green as he was walking off, he and his caddie were confronted by a fan, apparently got very close to read, within touching distance and was abusive. Reads caddy thought he better step in 90 dead and a physical altercation took place, the spectator spilled his beer. This has been caught as i understand it on peoples phones, there is video doing the rounds, the pga have investigated and told patrick reeds caddy you can do no further part in the cup and will not carry for him in the sunday singles. It isa carry for him in the sunday singles. It is a drama, i do not think it was a serious one, we all sought coming but it gives you a night of the pressure, the boiling pot that is out there on the course. It is interesting to note it is that story which is making the News Headlines here in australia, i have already seen it in several news bulletins so it is doing the rounds and the pga would prefer us to be talking about what an exciting contest it is. The International Team leading ten eight going into the final day but we are not, were still talking about patrick reed. Thats all the sport for now. Karthi and i will have a full round up in sportsday at 6. 30pm. Up next, film review. So, hello. Welcome to the film review on bbc news. And taking us through this weeks releases, we do have mark kermode. What have you got for us in store this week . Interesting week. We have sons of denmark, which is a political thriller. We havejumanji the next level. The same, but kind of more. And the kingmaker, a documentary about Imelda Marcos. So, sons of denmark. Its a danish drama. Interesting . Its an interesting film. Not necessarily entirely successful, but interesting. So feature debut of ulaa salim, a danish director whose parents are iraqi. Set in denmark four years in the future. There is a populist politician on the rise, and there is an election during which he appears to be doing quite well. Behind him are the titular group the sons of denmark, who are basically a kind of white supremacist nationalist group who were behind a whole bunch of islamophobic attacks in copenhagen. As a result of those attacks, young muslims are being radicalised at the same time. Lets see a clip. So you can see from that clip, its kind of gritty but has a thriller undercurrent. What then happens is we follow an undercover agent who is infiltrating that cell, but who becomes absolutely convinced that the greater threat is being posed by these kind of white nationalists. The interesting thing about the drama is this on the one hand, i mean, it takes a real life situation, it kind of imagines it four years in the future, so theres an element of, you know, fantastical imagination about it. And at times, its really gritty and really convincing and does a very interesting job of wrong footing the audience about their expectations about where the drama is going. At other times, i have to say, it does tip over into rather crass melodrama. So you end up with a film that is intriguing and i do think that ulaa salim is an interesting film maker and i think that we will see better work in the future. The thing with this is that its fine, but its not great because it does have a tendency to slip into melodrama, when actually, what it needs is to keep the downbeat tone that characterises the best scenes. Its set in 2025 i wonder why. Because its basically extrapolating from the present situation and saying, well, lets see. If we imagine these trends, lets put it. So, its near enough future to be present, but far enough away to not actually be whats happening right now. Yeah. 0k, thank you for that. And jumanji the next level. The same but more, you say . You could say that about any sequel, couldnt you . Well, no, because its quite often the same, but less. So nobody thought thatjumanji welcome to thejungle would be any good, because thejumanji original movie i know people like it, i was never a big fan of it. But in welcome to thejungle, they essentially rather than the things coming out of the board game, our heroes go into the video game. This time, we get the same crew back again of the in game avatars dwaynejohnson, jack black, kevin hart and karen gillan. We also add a couple of new characters, these old codgers played by danny devito and danny glover, who accidentally get sucked into the game with our young heroes. And all the things that made the original film work really well which is this central body swap idea, that these people get sucked into the game and then they have avatars of different one becomes heroic, one then becomes the rock, one becomes jack black. Its like that, but everything is turned up to 11. So theres more body swapping, theres more identities, theres more mixing and matching. Theres some really good fun special effects sequences. Theres a giant ostrich chasing a dune buggy sequence which made me think, wow cg has really come on since the days ofjurassic park and, i mean, when as long as we assume ok, its not looking to be a masterpiece, its not looking to redefine the boundaries of cinema but as a good piece of solid entertainment i was going to say Family Entertainment with the exception of the fact there are there are a couple of i sound really prudish saying this there are a couple of off colour gags that i thought didnt need to be in there. There was a couple of unnecessarily bawdy gags. But those aside, i actually thought it was much better than we had any right to expect for the second time or third time, if you count the third orfourth if you count zathura, which i dont. 0h, right. Good to know very good to know right, now we have the kingmaker which is about mrs marcos a documentary about Imelda Marcos. Who had 3,000 shoes, famously . 1,200, according to this, but reports vary. Ah it is made by Lauren Greenfield who made queen of versailles and generation wealth, so she knows how to do documentaries of extravagant wealth. We see Imelda Marcos interviewed. She proclaims herself to be the mother of the nation. She proclaims herself to be this great, healing person who was driven out unfairly and who is the only person who could possibly reunify her people. We hear about her saying that all the extravagances that she had, they were all there in order to offer a shining star to the poor, who need somebody to look up to. And, as we see in this clip here, she drives around handing out money, because she has some. She has a lot i read she had a fortune of 2a billion, so she certainly had a bit to give away. Yeah, and one of the things that this documentary is about is how much of the money that she still has is now being used to attempt to reintroduce the marcos dynasty. And we follow her as she promotes her son, who is known affectionately as bongbong, in the elections. The really interesting thing about this documentary is that on the one hand, you have this character, this ludicrous character, who speaks ridiculously about herself and about her situation. But behind it is something much, much darker somebody who talks about martial law as being a golden age. Somebody who talks about gaddafi as being a friend. Somebody who turns their noses up at any suggestion of reports of torture and incarceration and killings. Somebody who basically has still has a huge amount of wealth that nobodys entirely sure where it came from. Peter bradshaw in the guardian i hate to quote another critic but this case, i should said rather brilliantly that this was an exquisitely horrible portrait and i think thats exactly what it is. And what i think the triumph of what Lauren Greenfield does is she draws you in just enough to the ridiculousness of the situation, this character who does look ridiculous. And then you see behind that something really, really dark. And i think the film does a very good job of balancing, you know, what will interest an audience the stories about the shoes, the stories about all that stuff and actually, the horrible reality behind it. I thought it was a very interesting piece of work. I mean, shes an extraordinary figure. I think she has the Guinness World record for the amount stolen from a government, basically. Yes. And at one point, she is heard to say well, you know, if i was running this now, i could have sorted out all the worlds problems, because all the World Leaders love me. And as soon as they meet me, they smile, and that will be it. And you think, you might actually believe that to be true. But it isnt well, evidently, its not true, no. Alright, best out . 0rdinary love. And i cant recommend this highly enough. So this is liam neeson and Lesley Manville as a couple facing a diagnosis of breast cancer, and its a year in their life. It is written by owen mccafferty, who is a really well known belfast playwright. It is directed by lisa barros dsa and glenn leyburn, who made good vibrations, which is a film about the Northern Ireland punk scene. And i think this is a great movie. I think that it has got fantastic performances. Its, despite the subject matter, its very funny, its very human, its very much about their relationship. Its really honest its written, to some extent, from personal experience. And i have now seen it three times and every time i have seen it, ive liked it more, and i really want people to go and see it. Its a hard sell, i know, but its a really good movie. High praise indeed. And best dvd . Well, a bit of nonsense angel has fallen, which i had chosen because i think the first two in this series 0lympus has fallen and london has fallen i thought were rubbish. And then now, Gerard Butler teams up with nick nolte and suddenly, it becomes funny. And this was the first in the series when i thought, actually, youve got the measure of this now. This is deliberately ridiculous and i enjoyed it. Gerard butler is back in my good books. Yeah, hes a bodyguard whos protecting the president . Yeah, hes a sort of secret Service Agent who how do we get up to speed . Everywhere he goes, chaos seems to follow. But in this one, he has basically, hes got to go, you know, off on his own because he is because he is suspected of being the bad of course, hes not bad. Hes Gerard Butler. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love ive got to say i love films about american president s and their bodyguards. There was that one with with clint eastwood, wasnt there . I cant remember the name of it. Yeah, but 0lympus has fallen started off with kind of, you know, a premise that was done almost at the same time by white house down. And of the two movies, white house down was the less good one was the better one. 0lympus has fallen was the less good one, yet thats the one thats produced the two sequels. And, you know, Gerard Butler nobody chews the scenery like Gerard Butler and him and nick nolte together. Nick nolte plays his father his gruff, survivalist father from who he is completely estranged. Their scenes together are a joy. And then theres all the other stuff. Yep, other stuff which kind of goes with it. Yes. Mark, thank you very much. Thank you. Very good to see you. And you. That it is for this week, though. Thank you so much for watching. And its goodbye from both of us. Goodbye. Saturday has brought us a blustery day with some wintry showers around, there has been some sleet and snow over the Higher Ground and you can see that from this picture from one of our weather watchers in teesdale, a dusting of snow and we could see more sleet and snow over the Higher Ground in the north through to night.
