Aid trucks are needed every day to cover urgent needs there. Israel sealed its borders with gaza, imposing a total siege on the strip 12 days ago. The Rafah Crossing between egypt and gaza is now the only way to allow vital supplies in. Our reporter Rushdi Abualouf has the latest from the crossing. 20 trucks are carrying food, medicine, and we understand Operation Room for the Nasser Hospital in khan yunis. This convoy is the first 20 trucks that crossed from coming from the egyptian side to the palestinian side today. This is a window of hope for 2. 3 million people, who are stuck without food, medicine or essential water, all of the essential needs, stuck in gaza. Today, there is a little bit of hope that this corridor is open and functioning. Once the mechanism of distributing this food is in place, more trucks will come from this direction, from the egyptian side. We understand that 4,000 trucks full of food, medicine and some say a field hospital, are on the other side of the border. Israel wants to make sure that hamas is not involved in this. The bbc was told by a Senior Hamas Official today that hamas is aware of those trucks and they are happy with the mechanism that egypt is putting in place. And they will not involve in distributing or deciding who will get this aid, as long as they are going to the people who need. The palestinian side of the crossing is open and hamas is welcoming any aid in. So today is significant. Since two weeks, gaza was without food and medicine. Today is significant, we have seen a window of hope, a window of food and medicine for gaza. This is a drop in the ocean, but more to come if the mechanism in place, everybody is happy with. Rushdi abualouf reporting from the Rafah Crossing. Israel has continued to bombard gaza, including the south, where it had told people to seek safety, ahead of an expected ground offensive. The Gaza Health Ministry says a585 people have now been killed since israel began its air strikes. 1,756 of the dead are children, 976 are women. More than 1,400 people were killed when hamas attacked southern israel two weeks ago. Israel says 307 of its soldiers have been killed since then. Its raised the number of Hostages Hamas took to 210 though an American Mother and daughter were released late on friday. 0ur middle east correspondent tom bateman reports from jerusalem on the days developments. After a ten day wait, the lorries carrying desperately needed water, food and medicine finally began rolling into gaza this morning. A glimmer of hope delivered on the back of a lorry. 20 trucks have come in, thanks to the un, says this aid worker, among those who have been waiting on the border with egypt. The aid deal was brokered by the us. Egypt called for the israelis to stop bombing the crossing. Israel wanted guarantees the supplies couldnt be stolen by hamas. This is a start but aid groups say much more is needed. Medical needs in gaza are huge. So what we need is a sustained aid access. We have more supplies coming to egypt and, hopefully, we will be able to ship them because the more we wait, the more lives will be lost and situations are getting desperate in hospitals in gaza. Israels bombardment went on this morning, while palestinian rockets were fired from the strip. Gazas humanitarian crisis is deepening. Tahreer is sheltering with her six children in a school building. Translation there is not even 1 of a good, healthy and safe life for a child. There is no safety. If we dont die from war, we will die from epidemics and diseases. Meanwhile, the family of two american hostages released in Gaza Last Night spoke of theirjoy. Natalie and her Motherjudith Raanan were handed over to the red cross and received by the israeli army. They are the first captives to be freed. Their family said they were thinking of all the others. Singing. More than 200 people, including children and the elderly, are still being held hostage by hamas. Israel has said it will maintain its siege until they are freed. For their loved ones, last nights release may bring some hope, a faint light in the darkness of war. Tom bateman, bbc news, jerusalem. About 15 minutes ago, a building was hit by an air strike, killing a family. Not one house, more than one house. Bombing continues, people, women and children are being killed. So far, despite today, they say there is bombing in the north but all over i have seen. I have been in the South Of Gaza. No safe place in gaza. A Suicide Mission waiting for a brit at the bakery. Still now they are coming here, people are coming from gaza to this camp but there is no room in that to camp. People are very cramped. About 20,000 people escaped, especially after the threat, the hospital that used to hold 12,000 people are displaced. All of their move to that camp. There is no place for any people. Some people use the sheets just to cover themselves and use their sheets as tents. But the main point is that people are looking for water and food and when i meet them in the camp i asked them what is their demand. They sayjust in the camp i asked them what is their demand. They say just stop bombing, just up targeting families, stop killing children. This war is not against hamas, it is against ordinary people. Inside the camp, i found businessmen with jeeps, ordinary people. Inside the camp, i found businessmen withjeeps, very high brands. Rich people. Dont have any trouble so far with israel, who have permission to go to tel aviv. They had no problem with them, which means all the bombing is not against hamas, it is against people. Hamas spokesman ghazi hamad has been speaking to Krupa Paddy On Newshour on the bbc world service. Something the Israeli Military has given no indication it will do. Ghazi hamad said the International Community must put pressure on israel. Crackly recording from the first moment, we announced through the spokesman of the military wing brigades. He said that we are ready to deal with the point of hostages and prisoners in a positive way, and well get him for shelter and protection and so on and so on and so on, but we need the good circumstances of this. In addition to that, i think that our brothers in qatar and egypt and different countries, we have good contact with them, and i think according and responding to their mediation, we agreed to release yesterday an American Woman and her daughter. Can you confirm, therefore, that qatar was involved in these negotiations to release these two hostages . I think we have contacts with different people who meet leaders of hamas. Most of them, they talk about the hostages. But especially i think we have strong contact with our brothers in qatar and in addition to the egyptians, turkish, United Nations. But i think that maybe the qataris, they play a big role. So they played a big role. You said that you have always agreed to release hostages under what you said are good circumstances. What are the circumstances that you are specifying . And will you be releasing more hostages . To stop the aggression on gaza, because i think in gaza is what is going on in gaza is collective massacres, collective slaughters. Every day, we have more than 350 people are killed. So what we need is a good circumstances, but i think israel does not listen to anyone. I am, really am shocked and astonished from the. The position of the International Community who keep silent for such crimes, which all of them say that this is against the International Law. And we will certainly get into all of that in a moment, but i want to bring you back to the hostage situation. Can you confirm, sir, that hamas is Still Holding all of these hostages . Look, we have hostage. Thats right, its right. Are they safe . But we are as muslims, and we believe in values and ethics. We give them the respect and dignity and all kinds of shelter. We never hurt any one of them. So you are confirming that these hostages are safe . Yes, but i think. And. I couldnt guarantee because some of them, some of them, they were killed by the air strikes of israel. What is the criteria for individuals to be released . Look, first of all, we are going to deal with this with a positive way in order to end the point of the hostages and the prisoners, but i think we need guarantees. We need to stop the aggression on our people. We need also for the assistance to enter gaza and not to the people of Gaza Start Starving and they dont find water, electricity, food, milk for the children. And i think we are ready to deal with all mediations from any side in order to reach a compromise for this issue. You say you want to manage this in a positive way, but is taking hostages, which is absolutely prohibited under International Law and constitutes a war crime, is this acting in a positive way to achieve your goal . I want to say something. This operation was agreed by elected to the military persons and military sides and the israeli side who imposed siege and embargo and collective punishment for 70 years on gaza strip. And we never had intention or decision to direct it to the civilians. We avoid the civilians according to the islam ethics and our morals and our values. But, you know, sometimes in the war there are some complications. So i think. Sorry, sir. Complications. 0ur reporter went to one kibbutz and found evidence that 20 children were found nearby, tied together and burned. If we are talking about the suffering of children, what is hamas justification for that . I think all the hostages in gaza are in safe and secure. I told you we didnt totally different that israel dealing with our prisoners, we are ready to release them, but we want to find suitable circumstances for this. This is my my answer. Many arab leaders including from egypt and jordan have condemned israel for what they call the collective punishment of civilians in gaza. Theyve been speaking at a peace summit in cairo. Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas is also at that conference. Hes head of the Palestinian Authority, which controls areas of the occupied west bank, but not the hamas run gaza strip. He used his opening remarks to say that palestinians will not be forced off their land. Translation we warn against any i attempts to displace our people i in gaza beyond its borders. We also warn against any evictions of palestinians from their homes, or displacement from jerusalem or the west bank. We will not accept displacement. We will remain steadfast on our land, no matter the challenges. The un secretary general Antonio Guterres described the scene at Rafah Crossing as a Human Catastrophe after his visit on friday. As we focus on ending the bloodshed, we can cannot lose sight of the only realistic foundation for true peace and stability a two state solution. Israelis must see their legitimate needs for security materialised and palestinians must see their legitimate aspirations for an independent state realised in line with the United Nations resolutions, International Law and previous agreements. The time has come for action. Action to end this god awful nightmare and action to build a future worthy of the dreams of the children of palestine, israel, the region and the whole world. Shukran. Also at the summit is the uks foreign secretary, james cleverly, who condemned the actions of hamas, but said hes spoken to the Israeli Government about its duty to act in accordance with International Law. I am sure we all share the revulsion at hamas murderous acts of terrorism the targeting of the civilians, the murdering of children, the desecration of dead bodies. I am sure we are all distressed by the plight of Palestinian Civilians in gaza whose lives have been made harder, more painful, and more dangerous because of the brutal attacks by hamas on 7th october. We all mourn the dead, both israeli and palestinian. The opening of the Rafah Crossing earlier today followed delicate diplomatic negotiations. Earlier, i spoke our correspondent paul adams injerusalem, for his analysis. This was always a kind of experiment to see whether the mechanisms that had been devised between israel and egypt and with the international agencies, whether those mechanisms really stand the test, and there are a number of tests. 0bviously really stand the test, and there are a number of tests. Obviously the need to get adequate humanitarian supplies to the palestinian population. The need to address israels concerns that this aid does not fall into the hands of hamas. Egypts concerned that nothing that is going to happen in gaza is going to lead to a flood of Palestinian Refugees out over through that Rafah Crossing and into egypt. There are many, many anxieties, many concerns. Butjustin terms of todays shipment, 20 trucks, just 20 trucks. For two weeks the gaza strip has been under an unbelievably strict siege, no water, food orfuel and the situation with half the population on the move has become increasingly desperate. The idea that 20 trucks is going to make any difference to anyones lives really in the short term is kinder for the birds. What all the agencies are saying is this has to be sustained. It has to be the start of a process that goes on day after day after day and involve notjust 20 trucks but dozens, may be scores of trucks every day if those needs are to be met. Water, which is incredibly, in incredibly short supply following its male decision to switch off the tap at the beginning of all of this, to carry water in on a truck, that is a hugely. Volume consuming exercise and so just taking that in involves several trucks. So there are all sorts of additional requirement that the aid agencies have before they are remotely satisfied that this is going to make a difference to hundreds of thousands of palestinians who have been displaced. Paul thousands of palestinians who have been displaced. The Metropolital Police says up to 100,000 people are taking part in a pro palestinian protest in central london. The co organisers, palestine solidarity campaign, are calling for an immediate ceasefire in gaza and for full humanitarian aid to be sent in. In the last 2a hours, similar protests have been held around the world in places like thailand, australia, the netherlands, south africa, and several arab countries. Joining us now on the line from the protest is our home and legal correspondent, dominic casciani. Dominick, bring us up to date on what is happening where you are. I am in the middle of central london, not farfrom the am in the middle of central london, not far from the newsroom. Since just after midday, ive been following this pretty enormous protest that has wound its way from near hyde park in the middle of the west end of london towards whitehall and the seat of government. It is a pretty impressive sight, in terms of the scale of this thing. The police are estimating over an hour ago about 100,000. Are estimating over an hour ago about100,000. I are estimating over an hour ago about 100,000. I wouldnt be surprised if they come back with a much higherfigure than surprised if they come back with a much higher figure than that because it has taken three hours so far for this very, very dense crowd to wind its way through and they are still walking. I am towards the back of it at the moment, having struggled to get back towards my starting position and there are still people coming. Lots of people from an awful lot of different backgrounds. There is clearly a lot of people here of british arab and middle eastern heritage. A lot of people from other backgrounds. A lot of families, an awful lot of children here, actually. Young children. I think the one thing that is striking and worth saying is from what i have seen so far, and i cant talk for the whole crowd and the whole day, i havent seen anything that is kind of effectively trouble. Its all been pretty straightforward. I havent seen any sign of people supporting banned terror groups. That was clearly a concern of the police. I havent seen any signs of break out demonstrations. 0ne police. I havent seen any signs of break out demonstrations. One thing they were concerned about is people who were intent on violence would use this march to turn up and try and carry out an act of violence, in particular to target the Israeli Embassy in west london. About an hour ago, embassy in west london. About an hourago, i embassy in west london. About an hour ago, i was over in that part of the city checking things out. There is a secure cordon around the embassy. So i think the whole thing from a metropolitan police perceptive at the moment seems to be going quite well. Lets see where it goes. It is a pretty big crowd. 0ne goes. It is a pretty big crowd. One person i spoke to earlier, she was quite interesting. She said she had been working last weekend when they thought there had been an awful lot coming out and she said this is a on the larger side. An awful lot of people in the streets. People in the streets. Dominic casciani bringing people in the streets. Dominic casciani bringing us people in the streets. Dominic casciani bringing us the people in the streets. Dominic casciani bringing us the very l people in the streets. Dominic casciani bringing us the very latest from that march in central london. Thank you very much. We have more on that and all of the rest of the days developments from the middle east on the bbc news website. We are running a live page. I will be back after a short break come stay with us here on bbc news. Hello. Its still raining heavily and persistently across parts of the uk. So lets start with the Important Message and that red warning from the met office is still in force for parts of eastern scotland. It means danger to life. Its valid until 6 00 pm this evening, as is this much wider Amber Warning in eastern scotland. 100 millimetres of rain, further 100 millimetres of rain possible. In the north of scotland, this Amber Warning is valid until 10 00 pm today and you can see that rainfall here, heavy and persistent. And this has been the trouble over the last few days. Its this wind, this southeasterly Gale Force Wind thats been stuck across this part of the world. It keeps pushing in those rain clouds and dumping all of that rain in the same spot. To the south of that, its brighter, some sunny spells, but we have showers in the forecast for parts of east anglia and the south east where it will remain cloudy, damp, with heavy showers at times. So through the course of the evening and overnight, finally, that persistent rain clears to the north of scotland. The skies clear. The winds will ease as well and the temperatures will drop. So were talking about a pretty chilly morning, quite a chilly start to sunday, three degrees in aberdeen, two in newcastle, around 5 to 9 degrees across the bulk of england and wales as well as northern ireland. So heres the weather map for sunday. That troublesome low with its persistent rain has finally shifted to the north. Itll be just to the north of scotland. Were actually in between Weather Systems on sunday. So a good deal of dry, bright weather. Im very pleased to report. In fact, the best of the weather will probably be around some of these eastern coasts. The wind will have changed direction as well, coming more out of the west, southwest. Temperatures around 12 degrees in the Lowlands Of Scotland will match that in belfast, liverpool, about 1k and around 15 or so in the southeast. And then into monday, were expecting another very rainy area of low pressure to sweep in from the south. Itll be with us into tuesday as well. And actually, there are many low pressures out in the atlantic ready to come our way. So, yes, a bit ofa break, ithink, tomorrow with some sunny spells. But overall, the Weather Pattern is looking distinctly wet and windy in the coming days. Bye bye. This is bbc news. The headlines. The first trucks since israels war on hamas began start crossing from egypt into gaza, carrying desperately needed aid. This the un chief again pushes for a humanitarian ceasefire at A Summit In Cairo aimed at ending the israel gaza war. In london, police say up to 100,000 people have taken to the streets voicing support for palestinians. And storm babet sweeps across the uk, with three risk to Life Flood Warnings, amid widespread Travel Disruption. Now its time for a look at todays sport with chetan pathak. We start with the merseyside derby, and a win for liverpool that lifted them top of the Premier League for a while at least after they beat everton 2 0 at anfield, mo salah scored both goals, the first a penalty in the 75th minute after a Michael Keane handball, before he added a second deep in injury time. The win ensuring liverpools dominance in this fixture continues, having lostjust once in 28 games against their neighbours. We have to make sure that we try absolutely everything to win a game. For that you have to play until the final whistle and that is what we do. I am not frustrated. Final whistle and that is what we do. Iam not frustrated. If final whistle and that is what we do. I am not frustrated. If i were in the crowd i would be thinking, pass the ball there, pass the ball there. When youre in the driving seat at a slightly more difficult. When youre in the driving seat at a slightly more difficult. There are eight other matches in the Premier League, most of which are now under way with around half an hour played. The champions manchester city, whove already lost twice this season, are at home to brighton where its currently 2 0. Erling haaland with the goals. Brentford lead and bournemouth lead. Goalless between forest and luton. Later, arsenal can go back to the top of the table if they win the london derby at chelsea, before Manchester United are away at sheffield united. That is the late game. Next to the cricket world cup, where englands hopes of defending their trophy are fading fast. Having already lost twice they look like theyre heading for defeat again, after south africa piled on the runs at the end of their innings in mumbai. Put into bat, they smashed 143 in the last ten overs alone, making 399 7. Heinrich klaasen with 109 from just 67 balls. England have been poor with the bat, chasing 400 in what would be a Record World Cup chase, they are 90 7. Malan, root and ben stokes all failing to reach double figures. Meanwhile, the netherlands, who shocked south africa for their first win on tuesday, have been beaten by sri lanka whod lost their first three matches. Chasing 262 to win, the lankans got to their target with nearly a couple of overs to spare, Sadeera Samarawickrama top scoring with 91 as they won by five wickets. It is england up next for sri lanka in the week. It is england up next for sri lanka in the week. Next to the rugby world cup, where england and defending champions south africa are going through their final preparations for Saturday Nights semi final in paris. England are the underdogs but the players and fans remain optimistic of gaining some revenge for their defeat in the final four years ago, as Andy Swiss Reports the first england fans arrived in paris, hoping it will be worth the journey. They know their team are the underdogs against south africa and while there is optimism, its very much of the cautious kind. Im getting more deluded the closer we get to Saturday Night they gave us no chance last week but ive been reading the news on the way over here and i think. Yeah, i think were going to win. But while england havent looked World Beaters yet, theyre relaxed and ready. They might have lost to south africa in the final four years ago, but they believe history will count for little. Weve obviously changed as a team, and i imagine south africa will feel they have changed over four years as well. We understand what task is in front of us, what a good team were playing against, what a well drilled team were playing against but were excited to get out there. Here at the stade de france, england will face the very toughest of tests but a team that few had fancied before this tournament are nowjust one win from the final. South africa are notjust the world champions, though, theyre also the new world number ones and their fans are full of confidence. England, though, have relished defying their doubters. A team united in belief and tonight, theyll hope united in triumph. Andy swiss, bbc news, paris. And there is more build up to that semifinal on the bbc sport website. I have more view later, but for back to you. As weve been reporting, the first trucks have been crossing into gaza from egypt, after the Rafah Crossing opened this morning. Its some rare good news for gaza where 4,385 people have been killed in the last two weeks, according to the Palestinian Health ministry. 1,756 of them children. This footage shows the first trucks crossing into gaza loaded with food, water and medicine, which is desperately needed by civilians in gaza. Israel has agreed to let 20 trucks through, but the un says at least 100 aid trucks a day are needed, just to meet urgent needs there. And fuel was not allowed in putting patients lives at risk, as hospitals struggle to power their generators. Israel has sealed its borders with gaza and imposed a total siege on the strip. Drink more coffee and keep on working. There are 201 more people left that have to get out of there. There are many people like hersch, like my son, who may be dying because they are not being taken out soon enough. I pray that the end is a good ending for everyone. That took a lot of, not just america, i think there are a lot of players america, i think there are a lot of players out america, i think there are a lot of players out there who are really trying players out there who are really trying to players out there who are really trying to do the right thing and bring trying to do the right thing and bring these people home. That was rachel goldberg, mother of herschj rachel goldberg, mother of hersch goldberg. The release of these first two hostages has offered a glimmer of hope, as you mentioned, for the families of those who are in gaza at the moment and held captive in gaza. Also this prospect of diplomatic talks, the fact that there is an opportunity for there to be conversations between her mass, the united states, israel and other countries that have their citizens held in gaza at the moment. This has really given a glimmer of hope that they might be a diplomatic way to resolve some of the issues in this ongoing crisis. Resolve some of the issues in this ongoing crisis resolve some of the issues in this ongoing crisis. Thank you very much for the moment. Israeli air strikes in the last two weeks, have left much of Northern Gaza in ruins. These are live pictures fom israeli looking into gaza. Adnan el bursh sent us this report from one area thats been heavily bombed. This is an affluent neighbourhood in central gaza. 0vernight, its been completely destroyed. 32 tower blocks, each containing dozens of flats, are now totally gone. Translation they told us to evacuate at around 8. 30 or nine at night. We ran through the streets. Then israel started bombing the area nonstop from nine until seven this morning. You can see all of this destruction. Umm salim lived in one of these blocks of flats. She tells me all the families in her tower are now living stranded in the streets of gaza, with nowhere to go. Other residents say many people remain trapped. Translation we cannot bring people out from under the rubble. Ambulances cannot get here. We cannot pull the bodies out. People are screaming, but we cannot pull them out. Last nights attack took many residents by surprise, as people told me that it has been a relatively calm area in gaza. Translation we are civilians living peacefully in our homes. Why are you bombing us and ruining our lives . As we were filming here, a new warning came in from the israeli army, telling people to evacuate. We have now left because its dangerous. But the reality is, for many people still there, there is nowhere safe to go. Adnan el bursh, bbc news, from central gaza. The opening of the Rafah Crossing was promised under a deal us President Joe Biden struck with egypt and israel. 0ur reporter meghan 0wen has been looking at the significance of this crucial crossing. These are just some of the latest pictures of the flurry of activity at the Rafah Crossing. And we can see aid trucks rolling into gaza there. And they started to do that at around 11am on saturday morning local time. But lets just remind ourselves of why this crossing is so vital. This map here shows Erez Crossing in the north of gaza. In the south, we have kerem shalom, which is for commercial goods. Now, these are both currently closed and they both border israel. That leaves the Rafah Crossing, which is the only crossing that doesnt border israel. In fact, it borders egypt and the only current potential option to get humanitarian aid into the gaza strip. Now, lets just take a look at that in a little bit more detail on this satellite map. So we have customs in the middle. 0n the right, weve got gaza. 0n the left, we have egypt. Here, we see the border fence. And here, running through the two, is the access road. Now, the crossing has been closed since the conflict began a couple of weeks ago. And this is cctv footage of an explosion which happened earlier this week and this has been verified by the bbc. Now, The Crossing Reopening will come as welcome news to many. Weve seen scenes of thousands of civilians at the borderjust desperately waiting to get through from gaza to egypt. And on the egyptian side, weve seen hundreds of aid lorries just waiting to get those vital supplies to people in gaza. At the moment, it could potentially be a dangerous place to cross. In fact, the us embassy in israel has warned that there could be chaos and disorder on both sides of the fence at the moment. We also dont know how long its going to be reopened for, but there is hope that foreign nationals will soon be able to cross. For more on what aid agencies need on the ground in gaza, i spoke to fatima sator, from the International Commitee of the red cross. We have staff inside gaza. And we have trucks ready to enter. But also beyond the aid, the humanitarian aid, which, of course, is extremely important, it is essential, we also have medical personnel, experienced personnel, who are ready to step in to help and to alleviate the suffering of civilians. Those are mostly surgeons who would be able to help civilians inside gaza, knowing that hospitals have been really stretched to their limit, that there is no clean water to operate and that they dont have enough medicine. So do you have icrc trucks that are part of those 20 that have gone through today . Now, were coordinating with our partners from the egyptian red cross and the palestinian red crescent. And we do have around 60 tonnes of humanitarian aid, which include mostly medical supplies. So those are bandages, gloves, but also water to be able to help hospitals inside gaza. And what else are you desperate to get across at the moment, then . So our call right now is that this aid, of course, i mean, as you heard, as we heard, 20 trucks is not enough. 20 trucks is a drop in the ocean. Right now, the needs are so big that we do need more trucks to get in, but also a regular flow. So this has to be a continuous access. And were also asking for a pause in fighting, a humanitarian pause, so humanitarian actors are able to work and to support people of gaza. You have teams on the ground in gaza. What are they saying to you about the needs at the moment . So what my colleagues tell me is that the needs are huge. The humanitarian situation is disastrous. People have been walking tens of kilometers without car, sleeping, sometimes on the floor, getting to hospitals where, i mean, the ones that are still functioning, they dont have medicine. Water is not clean to operate. So the humanitarian situation right now is really, really disastrous. Violence has also been rising in the occupied west bank since israel began bombarding the gaza strip two weeks ago. With more than 80 palestinians killed. The situation poses a challenge to both israel and the internationally recognised Palestinian Authority which governs parts of the west bank. From ramallah, heres our middle east correspondent yolande knell. Medics rushing in after israeli snipers shoot at palestinian teenagers hurling stones, unleashing their anger. Already this had been the deadliest year in years for palestinians in the west bank, but since the war in gaza started, violence has really surged. At rallies, palestinians here shout in support of gaza, but also worry for their nationalist cause, because of israels order for people to leave the northern half of the strip. He decided to displace the palestinians. Palestinians have no choice except to defend their existence. What matters is that our people stay on their land, this woman says. We fear evacuation. As israel promises to eradicate hamas in gaza, these green flags are a reminder that it remains a force in the west bank. And while the groups political rival, president Mahmoud Abbas, has met us officials during this crisis, protests against him have shown the dangers for his Palestinian Authority if it looks like it intends to take over gaza after the war. 0fficials denied that is the plan. Israel wants to discuss the future, america wants to discuss the future. But the Palestinian Authority will not come to control gaza and the people of gaza on the back of an israeli tank. The past two weeks have seen scores of funerals in the west bank and hundreds of arrests by Israeli Security forces. Israeli settler violence has also reached a new high. Here, a settler shoots a palestinian, seriously injuring him. Israeli police say they are investigating. And east of ramallah, some 200 bedouin villages were driven from their homes of over 20 years. Now broke, abu bashar picks olives for money. He sees an israeli plot to take over more Land Palestinians want for a state of their own. Translation when the war broke out, i took advantage of it. The problem is the settlers came this time with guns and escorted by army vehicles. They committed this crime to force us out. While world attention is inevitably focusing on what is happening in gaza, tensions are also spiralling in the west bank, and the threat of a wider conflict is growing. Rail services in the east of the country are severely impacted. The water levels there are still high and we are still in the middle of the heavy rain. It is going to take some time for these water levels to drop. It is only when these water levels drop that we are going to be able to go in and look at the structures, and if there is any damage to the hammering that the structures have taken over the last few days. Dozens of flood alerts and warnings remain in place. As locals are left counting the cost of the damage, a red warning is still in force, with more rain and wind expected in the coming hours. Trucks carrying aid have entered gaza for the First Time Since the Israel Hamas War erupted. We will close with those pictures from gaza. We will be back after a quick break. The skies are clear. Temperatures around 12 degrees in the Lowlands Of Scotland will match that in belfast, liverpool, about 14 and around 15 or so in the southeast. Bye bye. Live from london, this is bbc news. We come on air with some breaking news.
