More now on the ukrainian advance into russias kursk region. President zelenksy says ukraine now controls more than 1,250 sq km of russian territory. For more analysis heres 0lga Robinson from bbc verify. Its been three weeks since ukrainian soldiers crossed the border into the russian region of kursk, and since then, ukrainians have advanced some 30km or 19 miles into russia. Based on analysis from the institute for the study of war, and it says in its latest assessment that ukraines forces have not made any significant advances in the past day. Now, lets take a look at some of the latest footage. Were continuing to see ukrainian drones being used to strike russian infrastructure, and this video, which has been verified by our team, has been circulating online since at least late yesterday. And it shows a drone strike on an Electrical Substation in the kursk region. We cant independently confirm at this stage when exactly this video was filmed, but our Team Continues to investigate. Ukrainian strikes have also destroyed or damaged at least two key bridges over the river tame in the past weeks. You can see a damage clearly here on this Satellite Image, which was taken on the 26th of august. And in order to counter those attacks, we can see that russians have been building pontoon bridges. These temporary structures, like this one here, which we can see on this Satellite Image captured on the 26th of august, they can help russians get supplies to their forces across the river. And weve also seen this footage, which was posted by Ukraines Armed forces on the 26th of august. It apparently shows an abandoned russian fortifications in the kursk region, and weve not been able to independently verify this footage because its filmed inside. But it does appear to show equipment and weapons left behind in an empty room with a russian flag. Meanwhile, today, ukraines commander in chief, speaking at a forum in kyiv via video link, said ukraine now controls 100 settlements and that almost 600 russian servicemen have been captured. We cant verify this independently, but the commander said one of the objectives of ukraines Offensive Into Kursk was to distract russias forces away from their own offensive in eastern ukraine, where russia has been steadily advancing in recent months. 0lga Robinson at vbc verify. Sir keir starmer has delivered a major speech in Downing Street vowing to reverse what hes called a Decade Of Decline under the previous conservative government. The pm has warned the budget in october will be painful and asked the country to accept short term pain for the long term good. The tories have dismissed the speech as a performative attempt to distract the public from promises sir keir never had any intention of keeping. Heres a little of what he had to say. Ill have to turn to the country and make big asks of you as well to accept short term pain for long term good. The difficult trade off for the genuine solution. And i know that after all that you have been through, i know its a really big ask and really difficult to hear. That is not the position we should be in. Its not the position i want to be in, but we have to end the politics of the easy answer that solves nothing. Live to westminister and our uk Political Correspondent rob watson. And, rob, you were listening to the entirety of that speech, tell me a little bit more about sir keir starmer said, little bit more about sir keir starmersaid, his little bit more about sir keir starmer said, his critics say that was not the message in the general election campaign. I was not the message in the general election campaign. Election campaign. I think the way one would sum election campaign. I think the way one would sum up election campaign. I think the way one would sum up sir election campaign. I think the way one would sum up sir keir one would sum up sir keir starmer s speech, matthew, it was an attempt to shape the entire political discourse in the uk for the next 510 discourse in the uk for the next 5 10 years. In two ways, firstly saying look, things will be difficult, but the reason for that is that the last lot left this country in such a hopeless mess as he would have it, so thats the first part of the message so its going to be difficult. And then the second part was to say we intend despite all these difficulties, to be a different kind of government that wont be all sorts of sleeves, there will be all sorts of embarrassments. We will put Public Service first. So that is the sort of stall he was laying out and in some ways it makes an awful lot of sense because the results of the last general election suggests that the outgoing conservatives were fantastically unpopular, so to blame them for the state of the country does make a lot of sense politically. Does make a lot of sense politically does make a lot of sense oliticall. . ,. , ~ politically. And, rob, he talked uuite politically. And, rob, he talked quite openly politically. And, rob, he talked quite openly about politically. And, rob, he talked quite openly about the politically. And, rob, he talked quite openly about the pain politically. And, rob, he talked| quite openly about the pain that politically. And, rob, he talked i quite openly about the pain that is coming in the budget. Do we get clues as to where that pain is actually directed . I clues as to where that pain is actually directed . Clues as to where that pain is actually directed . I think we do. I think the clues actually directed . I think we do. I think the clues of actually directed . I think we do. I think the clues of it actually directed . I think we do. I think the clues of it are actually directed . I think we do. I think the clues of it are going actually directed . I think we do. I think the clues of it are going to i think the clues of it are going to be a continuing squeeze on public spending and if you think public spending, the sense is already in this country to Public Services are really stretch so thats part of what i think we can expect. But i think also tax rises on the better off and tax rises as well for businesses. Because the labourers ruled out taxes on so called ordinary working people, so the danger of that is that it has the Unintended Consequences possibly of discouraging the wealthy, wealth creators, entrepreneurs, businesses from being in the uk and that of course would undermine labours task of putting growth of the absolute centre of its project, but sir keir starmer, Laboursay Centre of its project, but sir keir starmer, labour say they are facing difficult choices. Difficult choices. Thank you very much rob two men have been charged with murdering a mother and her three children at their home in bradford. Mohammed shabir and Calum Sunderland have both been charged with four counts of murder and one count of attempt murder. The pair have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at bradford magistrates court tomorrow. The paralympic gold medallist, baroness Tanni Grey Thompson, has told how she was forced to crawl off an lner train at london kings cross station, when no Wheelchair Assistance arrived to help her disembark. She waited for 20 minutes before deciding to take action herself. Lner says its investigating. 0ur correspondent Chi Chi Izundu reports. Well, its now 2217, no one has come to get me off. They got me on absolutely fine at leeds. Staff knew i was on, and im now crawling off the train. This is how baroness Tanni Grey Thompson described having to disembark a train at londons kings cross last night after travelling from leeds, moving her luggage and wheelchair off herself. Lady grey Thompson Says she had contacted the Train Network and pre booked assistance. But when her train arrived, she says there was no one there to help apart from the cleaning crew. We have a legal right to turn up and go, just to ask to get on a train. And trains were meant to be step free byjanuary the 1st, 2020, and the last government said its going to be 100 years before disabled people can get on a train without the permission or support of a non disabled person. And its just. It s exhausting, really. I was really angry last night. I mean, mostly because, you know, i can just about do it, but there are lots and lots of other disabled people who cant and would have been stuck until who knows when . The law says that all train and Station Providers are supposed to have an accessible Travel Policy outlining the level of service and facilities passengers can expect, how to get assistance, and also how to get help if things go wrong. Lners own policy says those needing assistance will be helped off the train within five minutes of its arrival. Lady grey thompson is now in paris for the paralympic games, which start tomorrow, but says change hasnt happened quick enough. You know, in this day and age, its just not right. And, you know, were on the verge of the paralympics. If another non disabled person tells me 2012 changed the world for disabled people, i will literally scream. It was an incredible games. It was brilliant. It raised the bar on the paralympics, but theres so much other stuff itjust hasnt changed, and we shouldnt expect it to. Well have more on that story in a few minutes time. The housing secretary, angela rayner, has described the damage to an east london tower block that was engulfed by a fire as horrific. Two people were taken to hospital following the fire at the building in dagenham, which had known safety issues. An investigation into the cause is under way. Must have been horrifying for the people come in the early hours of the morning, to wake up to what is an incredibly scary situation and you know, the work that has been ongoing on making sure remediation must be sped up. Ive been in the post a number of weeks now and the thing for me is that the Remediation Work is still too slow, and we need to continue that. Im meeting with the regulator, the Building Safety Regulators and the Health And Safety Executive this week, again, to really press home the urgency to make sure that that work is done, and there is responsibilities on the leaseholders, you know, the freeholder, people who own the building, but there is also work that weve put in to make sure that there is the Funds Available to get this Remediation Work done, and we need to make sure the regulators are pushing that agenda because we still have far too many buildings that have got this cladding on that needs to be removed. The deputy Prime Minister speaking a little while ago. The commissioner of the london fire brigade, andy roe, says there are a significant number of buildings across the city that need to be looked at. To be absolutely clear, ive got 1,300 buildings in london that are from my opinion, Un Remediated and must be as a priority. This is one of very many of them. It is the responsibility of building owners and managers to make sure the systems inside their buildings function properly. Five people were stabbed on the closing day of the notting hill carnival. Two of them are in a Critical Condition. The metropolitan police have been giving the latest figures on the Policing Operation as our reporterjoe inwood reports. So there were eight people who were stabbed across the two days of the notting hill carnival, three on the sunday and five on the monday. Of those five, two of them are in a Critical Condition and of those three stabbed on the sunday, one is in a Critical Condition. Now, we do have a bit more information about her, we understand shes a 32 year old woman who was there with her child and seems to have been caught in the middle of a fight, of which she had no part. The police have also said that they have arrested three men at separate addresses across west london. A 20 year old who has been charged with Attempted Murder and violent disorder, and a 22 year old and 2a year old, both charged with violent disorder. Now, in a statement that the police put out earlier, they said now, i think it is worth pointing out that this was a huge event, the second biggest street party in the world, at which a Million People are thought to have attended across the two days, and the vast majority, the overwhelming majority of people, were there to have a good time. And thats something that the organisers have been keen to emphasise, while of course condemning anyone that went there to take part in violent disorder. They said that that is not carnival. Carnival is the people who dedicate so much time, love and incredible creativity to the parade, the sound systems, the music, the food and the costumes. Thats why the overwhelming majority of visitors had a fantastic experience. And i think when you speak to people who are at the carnival, that is the overwhelming experience that people have. 0bviously marred by the actions of a very small number of people. Its the news 0asis fans have been waiting for. The Gallagher Brothers are getting back together. Heres how it was announced. Me and liam are like Telepathic Coming and what i mean . Liam and Noel Gallagher had teased an announcement through posts on social media, before revealing tour dates for 2025. Brian cannon is the Graphic Designer behind the artwork for the oasis albums in the 905. We talked earlier about the Iconic Images and we started by talking about the famous definitely maybe album cover. It was remarkably posed. We been in there the week before to detect shots of me in various positions so when we got there on the day we knew everybody was going to be. The whole point was an anti band shot. Rather than standing there posing, looking at the cameras, they were just sat there watching the telly. So that is kind of a joke, really. And you say everything was worked out. I gather even in the glass it is ribena, not wine. Yes. And noel tells a story because we cannot afford wine. That is not exactly true. The fact of the matter is, red wine it photographs black and ribena photographs that you would imagine that mind to look so that is why. If you look at the tv screen, the still on the telly, that is freeze framed on the video. That specific shot from the good, the bad and the ugly. So it was all meticulously planned beforehand. You got so many fantastic stories. Comes to a different cover, what is the story Morning Glory . I gather you are responsible for that urban myth that circulated that the brothers were too drunk, too hung over to actually be in that sheet. Be in that shoot. Is that right . That is true and that still gets trotted out to this day. They were never going to be on the cover. There are actually, they were not even in the country. There were dublin the night before playing with rem. So it was a different two people on the front cover. That is you in that shot, that iconic shot that people remember . That is you there . I am the one in the beige jacket walking away. It was five oclock in the morning. Yes, that is me. Give me an idea, generally, what was it like doing dishes . What was it like doing these shoots . It was all good. Just the whole experience of working with them was fantastic. You know, theyve got a reputation for being hell raisers but they really were punctual and professional to work with. No doubt there was a lot of partying going on but they worked very, very hard. It would be impossible to fit out that body of work in that period of time and the tour if you were smashed all the time so it was great fun. A lot of good work and, yeah, a career defining job for me and almost defined a life, really, i suppose it was remarkable. Im going to put a few more images on the screen. Some might say that cover because there are so many lovely stories. This is a Railway Station and the characters there on the platform. That is your mum and dad, your dad with a wheelbarrow and mother with her mop. So getting all the family involved and to be here now, i want to put that on the screen because the rolls royce in the swimming pool, there it is. A lot of people thought that was photoshopped. It is not, is it . It is really in that pool. And i looked at it after it was done i thought, if i was going to photoshop but i think the car looks too small, you know. I think it looks photoshopped because the car is too small but it is definitely in there. We did notjust drive it in, we drained the pool and we built a scaffolding stand beneath it and positioned it on a crane. It wasnt a runner. We hired it from a scrap yard. That cost as a gram. There was no engine in it but from the front of the bike it was ok so it is a real rolls royce and it really is and that pool. Lets speak to stephen murphy, whos on a road in london that some of you might recognise. For oasis fans i dont need to tell them, but this Is Barrick Street on that cover of whats the story Morning Glory which so many oasis hits on it including wonder well. That shot became this shot here, the album from whats the story, Morning Glory. So many pans weve seen today is stopping to get their photo in front of it, it is a bit of an iconic shop. Hello there tuesday brought us three different zones of weather across the uk, so it was quite a mixed Weather Picture. It was across parts of the east midlands, central, southern england, east anglia and the south east that we had the best of the day sunshine and it was warm too, temperatures reached the mid 20s in the warmest spots. But not that far away we had this stripe of rain, a slow moving Weather Front that brought wet weather. The front itself did move away from scotland and Northern Ireland for the most part after a soggy morning here in crieff and perth and kinross. At least the weather brighten up through the afternoon. Now looking at the Weather Picture overnight tonight, here is our weak Weather Front, stretched across northern england, wales and into the south west of england. With that there will be some areas of low cloud, bit of mist and fog around some of the hills and the coast, and further patches of mostly light rain. There will be some rain returning to Northern Ireland towards the end of the night as well. Weve got these three zones of weather then for the forecast tomorrow too. First of all, our old Weather Front, well, it could pep up to bring one or two heavier bursts of rain, but i think more likely the heaviest rain on wednesday will be affecting Northern Ireland and into parts of scotland through the course of the day, but that still leaves east anglia and south east england, where its going to be dry, sunny and warm. If anything, it could be even hotter. Temperatures might reach 27 degrees in the very warmest spots. Now, by the time we get to thursday, a cold front will have swept away that heat from easternmost areas of england, so temperatures will be returning back closer to average. A lot of dry weather around. A few blustery showers, though for the north West Of Scotland and a few isolated showers, possibly building through the day in Northern Ireland and the north west of both england and wales. But overall, thursdays not a bad kind of day. And for friday, well, there is a risk of seeing a few showers affect the Northern Isles for a time, thanks to this area of low pressure. But otherwise, High Pressure starts to build across the uk and thats going to be with us through friday and into the weekend beyond. What that means is for most of you, its looking dry to the end of the week. Could be a few Early Morning mist and fog patches to clear, but otherwise some fine spells of sunshine are forecast to develop widely. Temperatures again climbing into the 20s widely across england and wales. High teens for scotland and Northern Ireland. In that late august sunshine it should feel pleasantly warm and the sunny skies stay with us into the weekend as well. However, there isjust a small chance of a few showers coming up from france to affect southernmost areas of england on sunday. Of england on sunday.
