Of course, more details on our website and we also have a live page following this as well. If you want more details its all there. Lets take a look at some of the days other news. And more migrants have been trying to cross the channel from france this morning, despite the deaths of 12 People Yesterday when their dinghy capsized. A pregnant woman and six children were among the dead up to 65 people were rescued. Our correspondent Hugh Schofield has the latest. Just up the coast from boulogne this morning, another group of migrants makes haste to get aboard. French police give chase, but once boats are loaded and in the water, policy is not to intervene. So, another Human Cargo sets off for the english coast. Yesterday, thats how things would have started, too, for the group of mainly eritrean migrants. But theirjourney ended not in an english el dorado, but in disaster and death. Their overloaded boat started to come apart. The swift arrival of french rescuers saved many lives, but 12 drowned, most of them women. Hungry for a new life, migrants keep arriving here on the french coast, bent on crossing the water to england, and they dont seem deterred by the growing number of boats that are sinking and people that are dying. So far this year, more than 21,000 people have made it across the channel in small boats. Thats more than in the same period last year, but fewer than in 2022. The number of people drowned this year is now at least 37, compared to 12 for 2023. The fault, says the mayor, is the overcrowding of boats by unscrupulous traffickers, and it cant be allowed to go on. Translation either the uk| completely closes its border, or they do something to make the crossing safer, because we cant keep exposing to such risk all these Freedom Loving Men And Women who fled war and whose one desire is to reach england. 0ver his shoulder out at sea, another odyssey is unfolding. Under the eyes of the french navy, another migrant boat is edging its way up the coast to england. Hugh schofield, bbc news, boulogne in northern france. Sir Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak have clashed over the Governments Decision to scrap Winter Fuel payments for some pensioners at the first set of Prime Ministers questions after the summer recess. 0ur Political CorrespondentIain Watson sent this report. His political honeymoon over, Sir Keir Starmer made its way to the commons for only his second pmqs as Prime Minister and now has to answer the questions rather than ask them. Question one, mr speaker. This Afternoon Conservative mps begin the long process of choosing a replacement for Rishi Sunak as leader of the opposition. In the meantime he wanted to turn up his heat on his successer as Prime Minister. Mr speaker, government is about Making Choices and the new Prime Minister has made a choice. He has chosen to take the Winter Fuel allowance away from low income pensioners and give that money to certain unionised workforces in inflation busting pay rises. 0ur Firstjob was to audit the books. And what we found was a £22 billion black hole. No good them complaining. In a show of rare Oppostion Unity the lib dems also raise the political temperature over Winter Fuel. What advice does the Prime Minister have to norman and roz and millions of otherl struggling pensioners as they face rising heating bills this winter . Im not pretending its not a difficult decision, of course its a difficult decision because we have to stabilise the economy. And some Labour Mps are also uneasy about the loss of Winter Fuel payments from pensioners. Some say they have had hundreds of E Mails from concerned constituents but that doesnt necessarily mean well see much of a formal rebellion. One new Labour Mp put down a Commons Motion calling for the postponement of the cuts, but so far its only attracted the support of a handful of colleagues. Mps vote on the Winter Fuel changes next week but a Government Victory is unlikely to quell the criticism. Lets return to the rental tower inquiry. This is the second and final report from the inquiry that has come out today and it has been described as a damning report. Grenfell towerfire as a damning report. Grenfell Tower Fire killed 72 people seven years ago injune 2017. We can speak to the Labour Mp for kensington and bayswater, the area in which Grenfell Tower stands. The area in which Grenfell Towerstands. Now, the area in which Grenfell Tower stands. Now, just as stress, joe, you won the position of mp for that area and the most recent elections that you were not the local mp for that area back in 2017 when this tragedy happened. But just, as the local mp for this area, you will understand the huge impact that the fire had on the local community. Can i first start with just getting your reaction to what is being described as a damning report from the inquiry. From the inquiry. Yes, i think the report from the inquiry. Yes, i think the report is from the inquiry. Yes, i think the report is very from the inquiry. Yes, i think the report is very clear from the inquiry. Yes, i think the report is very clear in from the inquiry. Yes, i think the report is very clear in its| the report is very clear in its language that there was systematic dishonesty, there was cover ups, tenants were not treated with respect. There was a cultural issue about whether they were listened to or not. And, of course, many recommendations about the entire dysfunctional Building Regulation System that allowed companies to effectively be marking their own homework for products that resulted in a rapid Fire Spread that was not anticipated by the fire brigade, so, people have said its a systemic failure but its a systemic failure but its also a question of, how did we allow that system to come about that put those people at such risk. So its a very dreadful day for this community but its also a step forward and not the end because ultimately, that will have to come through realjustice and criminal prosecutions. Exactly. How will that criminal prosecutions. Exactly. How will that work criminal prosecutions. Exactly. How will that work with criminal prosecutions. Exactly. How will that work with mike i how will that work with mike there has been concerned that there has been concerned that there wasnt in the investigation from the Polices Side in tandem with this inquiry. So once again this community there has been devastated by the travesty has to wait forjustice. The devastated by the travesty has to wait forjustice. To wait for ustice. The police had been to wait forjustice. The police had been running to wait forjustice. The police had been running an had been running an investigation but its unusual to have an investigation where Public Inquiry and a criminal investigation are running in parallel which is essentially what is happening. Clearly, the police felt they needed to wait to receive this report before pressing ahead with, if they choose to, sending charges to the cps. So i understand that the cps. So i understand that the police have been put in that position and i think, now, as i asked the Prime Minister earlier, we want to make sure that the entire way of government, from the courts, the everything has got a disposal of trying to make sure that we get realjustice as soon as possible. That we get realjustice as soon as possible. When you seak soon as possible. When you speak to soon as possible. When you speak to the soon as possible. When you speak to the local soon as possible. When you i speak to the local community, when they reflect upon this, do you sense, you must feel their frustration and their absolute Pain And Sadness because arguably, this should have been and could have been prevented. It was entirely foreseen and foreseeable. So, of course, there is absolutely anger because there are 72 people that died and their Family Members were in Parliament Today and listening to the statement and the response. And for them, when i was meeting with them afterwards, it absolutely brought back memories of the night and the aftermath which i cannot imagine how horrific that must ve for them. So it is very painful but one part of the report which i think its really important, it states that the response of the local community, that is Community Groups and charities and faith groups and charities and faith groups and charities and faith groups and people across North Kensington was, if you like, put to shame the official response because those with the groups that were there with people when they needed them. And frankly speaking, in North Kensington at the moment, those are still the groups doing a significant amount of the group in terms of working with the wider community. That fills them with pride as the mp for that Community Response are still going even while im absolutely furious and a shame with many of the government and private institutions that allow this to happen. It private institutions that allow this to happen. Private institutions that allow this to happen. It is important to seak this to happen. It is important to speak about this to happen. It is important to speak about just this to happen. It is important to speak about just how this to happen. It is important| to speak about just how strong the community is. I was working on the night of Grenfell Tower and i was interviewing so many people that were searching for the Loved Ones and of course, as we now know, in the tragedy 72 people lost their lives. How do you stop this happening . Even today there was a fire in london. Last week there was a fire in london. It is enough being done . We fire in london. It is enough being done . Fire in london. It is enough bein done . ~. , ,. , being done . We absolutely have to seed being done . We absolutely have to speed up being done . We absolutely have to speed up the being done . We absolutely have to speed up the work being done . We absolutely have to speed up the work of being done . We absolutely have to speed up the work of both to speed up the work of both remedial work on buildings that have already been identified as having unsafe cladding or other Fire Safety issues and identifying new buildings. I think some of the groups campaigning on cladding, for example, estimate that there could be double the number of buildings that still havent been yet added to these registers remedial work. Again, this is an example, as i said today, of buckpassing. And the situation at the moment is that in many cases, tenants are trapped in these buildings because between the freeholders and local government and national government developers, its still taking far too long to put the plans in place to do that work. So there are people going to sleep tonight, in buildings that are still unsafe. And that is utterly unacceptable. Seven years since going for happen. The Prime Minister was very clear that it will be a high government priorities and speed of that work. And i was also glad to hear him say that some of the companies who have been criticised in san martins report would not be held to access public contracts in the future and saying that it is also really important there is accountability for them in terms of their Bottom Line as well as what i hope in the future will be no accountability of the police and cps decided. We accountability of the police and cps decided. Accountability of the police and cps decided. We are out of time but thank and cps decided. We are out of time but thank you and cps decided. We are out of time but thank you very and cps decided. We are out of time but thank you very much, | time but thank you very much, the Labour Mp for the constituency of grenfell, thank you very much for your time on this day when the Inquiry Report brings that final report. Much more on this on the top of the hour. Now lets have a look at the weather. Hello there. Look out the contrasting Weather Conditions over the next few days after having the wettest summer on record the sunshine will come as a welcome surprise and it would turn increasingly humid. More crowd more ciowd across more crowd across eastern Scotland And NorthEast England but again quite warm. We will see a spell of Heavy Rain is an area of low pressure develops and that front is going to lingerfor a few days. And that front is going to linger for a few days. Heavy rain across Southern England and parts of south wales. We see the first signs of that first thing on thursday morning, dripping its way steadily westwards and intensify. A lot of Cloud Spelling and of the North Sea but with lighter winds further north and west here we should get a little more sunshine and temperatures will start to respond. We could see highs, perhaps of Thursday Afternoon of 22 celsius. Now, lets take a look at what happens through Thursday Evening because that rain will intensify further. A Speu Rain will intensify further. A spell of Heavy Rain moving its way across south west england, that eases away and then another pulse of wet weather is going to feed in towards the early hours of friday morning. Dont forget, the brighter colours as the intensity of the rainfall. Some areas could see as much to 80 to 100 millilitres of rain as this area of low pressure moves away. A wet start across the south west with further areas of showery rain pushing in the south East England as well. In easterly wind will hopefully bring a little more sunshine across eastern england. And more Humidity And Warmth to go with it. Temperatures potentially peaking at 25 celsius. We might see 25 in Western Scotland as well. Into saturday, the area of low Pressure Potentiallyjust drifting further south. Still the risk of further Heavy Rain. Sunny spells elsewhere and again, those temperatures into the Mid 20s but by the time we get sunday, it looks likely that the local temperature will start to drift its way that little bit further north and east. So for the midlands, Parts Of Lincolnshire and perhaps east anglia, we could see more of the way of Heavy Rain. Cloudy conditions potentially further north as well as the Wind Direction is now looking to change. Not quite as one, not quite as humid. Take care. This is bbc news, live from london.
