Hello, im nicky schiller. Israel has carried out further Bombing Raids on beirut, as fighting with hezbollah continues on the ground in Southern Lebanon. Whilst The Un says lebanon faces a terrible refugee crisis. These are todays main developments in the Middle East conflict. Israel again struck the southern suburbs of beirut. Clashes were also reported around lebanons southern border. Hezbollah has fired rockets into northern israel, with reports that residential buildings were hit. Israel says 90 rockets have so far been fired. People across israel are waiting to see how their Government will respond to tuesdays major iranian missile strike. Israel meanwhile has called on palestinians to evacuate parts of central gaza, as the military said it was preparing to use great force against hamas fighters in the area. Pro palestinian protests are being held around the the globe today, calling for a ceasefire in gaza and an end to the conflict. They come two days before the anniversary of the killing of about 1200 israelis in the Hamas Attack that sparked the current conflict. And we have pictures coming in from Tel Aviv of protesters and hoStage families calling for the Government to bring the hoStages home. They are carrying out their weekly protest, as has happened every weekend since October The 7th and comes just a couple of days before that first anniversary of the Hamas Attacks on israels and Israels Military said it is on high alert ahead of that anniversary. Lets get the latest from lebanon. My Colleague Anna Foster is in beirut. I crossed the city earlier today and those continuing Air Strikes were clear to see. As he Go into the mountains and looked down over the rooftops of beirut, you can see the rising columns of smoke, at one point, there were several Israeli Air strikes that Hit A similar area over Israeli Air strikes that Hit ASimilararea OveranHour Israeli Air strikes that Hit A similar area over an hour and one was very close to the airport, again that rising, and of smoke. There are always concerns. The southern suburbs are in close proximity to the airport but there are still fears here that anything that gets too close or a deliberate Israeli Strike on the runway would stop people leaving the country, which is already difficult to do. We have seen The Un again warned today of The Un again warned today of the Displacement Crisis we are seeing here, one of a terrible crisis with 1. 2 million at last count people who have fled their Homes Notjust here in beirut, moving to a different part of the city to move away from those Israeli Air strikes, but also those large scale evacuations we have seen in the south of lebanon as well, where the idf had told people to leave their homes in various places. In quite a wide, broad sweep of Southern Lebanon on the Goes along way enough. We have also seen today more hezbollah rockets fired into israel. Now the latest from our correspondence. Israel is stepping up its strikes in Lebanon Beirut rocked by more blasts today, as the israeli army says it continues to hit hezbollah targets, including near the citys airport. This was said to be a strike on one commander this afternoon. But the expanded assault has forced more than A Million lebanese from their homes in the past two weeks, many taking refuge in the capital. There may be glimpses of normality, but this is not the Safe Haven they hoped it would be. Translation the situation is a disaster and we are living through it. What should we do . We cannot Go anywhere. We cannot travel. All the country is at risk. Hezbollah have been fighting and firing back. 700 rockets reportedly launched in the past four days. An elderly woman in this town survived when her flat was hit. Israel says the new daily Rocket Fire into the north of the country is the reason why its now invaded lebanon. The aim is to push back hezbollah so the displaced israeli families living near the border can return. That is easier said than done and so far hezbollah has responded by firing deeper into israel, including into communities like this one. As we were getting ready to leave, another alarm and then this. You can see how this time, directly overhead, a missile is intercepted. We were just filming on top of the roof there, and as you can hear, there is another siren. Come inside, please. There is another alert so we are trying to take some safety and get some shelter in here. Go inside. Those living here told us they support Israels Expansion of the war. We have to be here sure that the army will do what is needed to be done and to bring this safety to our citizens here in the north. To the north, inside lebanon, israeli soldiers are trying to consolidate their new gains, but hezbollah say there have been fierce clashes and claim to have wounded advancing israeli troops in a war which is widening and deepening. Nick beake, Bbc News, northern israel. Lets get the latest from Tel Aviv, we can speak to the Special Correspondent there. What is happening in terms of an israeli response or a planned or threatened israeli response to that iranian Missile Attack which we saw happen earlier this week . People are waiting and we think iran. People are waiting and we think this iran. People are waiting and we think this attack might, any hour, think this attack might, any hour, any think this attack might, any hour, any day now. Think this attack might, any hour, any day now. Thank you. We have hour, any day now. Thank you. We have had hour, any day now. Thank you. We have had some hour, any day now. Thank you. We have had some lines hour, any day now. Thank you. I we have had some lines through from the Afp News Agency about the french president , emmanuel macron, again calling for an immediate ceasefire between israel and lebanon, saying he will organise an international conference in support of lebanon at some point this month. Also 88 francophone countries also joining that call for a ceasefire. Now that israeli Ground Operation has started here in lebanon. We had earlierfrom war childs started here in lebanon. We had earlier from war childs middle East Director and she was reflecting on the huge Displacement Crisis we are seeing here in lebanon, more than 1. 2 million, around a fifth of the population out of their homes at the moment. She was talking about the particular impact that inevitably has on children. We have been inevitably has on children. We have been preparing for this for quite have been preparing for this for quite some time but no matter for quite some time but no matter how much you prepare, it is hard matter how much you prepare, it is hard when it hits because it always is hard when it hits because it always catches you by surprise. War is always catches you by surprise. War is never easy, but for now, we are war is never easy, but for now, we are prepared, we have enough supplies we are prepared, we have enough surrplies to we are prepared, we have enough supplies to last us for a couple supplies to last us for a couple of months and then if the situation worsens and if they the situation worsens and if they close the airport, because as you they close the airport, because as you mentioned, it is being attacked as you mentioned, it is being attacked constantly, then the situation will really be devastating. It already is but it will devastating. It already is but it Go'>Willjust Go downhill and it is hard it Go'>Willjust Go downhill and it is hard to it Go'>Willjust Go downhill and it is hard to imagine how it will play is hard to imagine how it will play out is hard to imagine how it will play out. It links it to the situation play out. It links it to the situation in gaza where it is really situation in gaza where it is really hard to bring in supplies. I hope we dont get to that supplies. I hope we dont get to that Stage. To that Stage. Just getting some fresh to that Stage. Just getting some fresh pictures to that Stage. Just getting some fresh pictures from | to that Stage. Just getting i some fresh pictures from the lebanon on syria border. This is an area of The Crossing, a Big Civilian Crossing between lebanon and syria, not everybody able to use that one because not everybody has the papers or Visa Booing to get across, but we have seen here visas, and what we have seen is a lot of syrian refugees who fled the Civil War in syria and came across into lebanon are now actually trying to Go back to escape the escalating fighting here. These are images escalating fighting here. These are images of escalating fighting here. These are images of people escalating fighting here. These are images of people on escalating fighting here. These are images of people on both | are images of people on both sides of The Crossing. It was closed yesterday after an Israeli Air strike hit the road near The Crossing. Near The Crossing. These pictures near The Crossing. These pictures appeared near The Crossing. These pictures appeared to near The Crossing. These I Pictures appeared to show people which crossing over. It looks like The Crossing has been re established today. People are walking on that road. It shows you two things. It speaks to the Scale And Size of the Display MustDisplacement Crisis in lebanon and also says a lot about the fears and concerns when you look at those syrians who left the Civil War in their own country and are now making that decision to Go back again, feeling they will be safer than they are staying here in lebanon at the moment. As we were saying through the day to day, the afternoon, we have seen more of these Israeli Air strikes on different parts of the capital. It is dark here now. When we get into the early hours of the morning, you tend to get these new idf warnings buildings and areas in the southern suburbs and people who live here, i can speak to that as well, you really see and hear overnight often very intense strikes right in the heart of the capital here. What is everyday heart of the capital here. What is everyday Life Heart of the capital here. What is everyday life like heart of the capital here. What is everyday life like theyre is everyday life like theyre in beirut . For example, are the shops might come people easily get Food Miss rb can people get food . Its an interesting can people get food . Its an interesting question, can people get food . Its an i interesting question, because the day to day things of how people are coping is equally important. It was really quiet last weekend after the huge Air Strike that killed the leader of hezbollah, hassan nasrallah, and even in the busier part of the city it was very quiet, many businesses closed down. The streets were noticeably quiet. You do see a lot of displaced people in the capital as well. But things are slightly starting to reopen again, which is interesting because the Air Strikes are continuing but it shows the ebb and flow. People here are used to walk and consider themselves people here are used to water and they consider themselves very resilient. I used to war. That was our middle East Correspondent Anna foster. Nearly a year after the start of the israel gaza war, protests have taken place worldwide calling for an end to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has already cost Tens Of Thousands of civilian lives. I want to show you some of the pictures that have come in from around the world. First to Cape Town in south africa, protesters marched with Palestinian Flags and banners, ending at parliament. Around 5,000 people have attended an anti War Demonstration in the italian capital rome. These are pictures from the german capital berlin. There protesters chanted amongst other Things Freedom for lebanon and viva, viva gaza. These are pictures from the scottish Capital Edinburgh where protesters gathered. Smaller demonstrations also took place in aberdeen and inverness. These were the scenes in dublin, where the march was organised by the ireland palestine solidarity campaign. Thousands of protestors also gathered in madrid in spain ahead of the first anniversary of the start of the war in gaza. In london, Tens Of Thousands walked from Russell Square to whitehall, where speeches took place outside downing street. The event was organised by groups including the palestine solidarity campaign, with people travelling from around the country to take part. The metropolian police said 17 people were arrested. To The United states, where the republican president ial nominee, Donald Trump, is preparing to hold a rally in the exact location where he survived an Assassination Attempt injuly. Our correspondent Gary Odonoghue reported from butler in pennsylvania as the attack took place. Hes been back to the crucial Swing State to speak to people affected, including the widow of a former Volunteer Fire Fighter who was killed by a bullet meant for mr trump. If you want to really see something. Its a moment that will Go down in history. Take a look at what happened. Gunshots. Get down, get down, get down. A former president coming within inches of losing his life. Theres frantic activity among the police. A Book Bag next to him. Give me a bleep Hard Line . As they look for other possible gunmen. This building, he was on top of this building meanwhile, those closest to the Stage are watching Donald Trump on the floor. This video, taken just moments later. While Donald Trump survived, Corey Comperatore did not. The former Volunteer Fire Chief losing his life as he protected his wife and daughters. His widow, helen, told me how theyd been childhood sweethearts. The day before he was killed, my youngest daughter pulled out his senior photo that he had given to me. And on the back he had written that i was his best. Thanked me for being his best friend. And he actually teared up and looked at me and said, thank you for being my best friend. So it was just kind of weird that we had that moment, you know, the day before. Throughout the rally, corey had joked how he believed the former president would get him up on Stage. Less than a week later, Coreys Jacket was displayed on Stage as Donald Trump accepted the republican nomination. Ijust cried because, you know, i said he Got his moment on Stage with trump. So, you know, it was kind of like a nice moment, but it was a sad moment at the same time. Two people with an exceptional view that day were a mother and son, 11 year old gino, dressed as the former president , just feet from the Stage. I felt everything. I felt sad, scared, mad that someone would do this. The police are down there running around on the ground. Were like, hey man, theres a guy on the roof with a rifle. And the police are like, huh . What . You know, like they didnt know what was Going on. I just outside the rally, me and my team were talking to trump supporters about what theyd seen when one man told us an extraordinary story. His words would reverberate around the world. Three months later, he has no regrets. I feel proud of it. I everything that i told you that| night has proven out to be true from everything thats come out since then. Theres still no clear answer to the question why Thomas Crooks attempted to assassinate Donald Trump. But we do now have a much clearer idea about the series of Security Blunders that allowed him to do so. He was able to fly a drone over the site undetected. Police saw him using a rangefinder tojudge the distance to the Stage, yet still he was able to climb onto a Roof And Fire eight shots. Moments after that, crooks was dead, a single shot to the head from a Secret Service sniper. Multiple inquiries are trying to establish who was to blame, with much of the focus now on the actions of the Secret Service. If youre the Secret Service, if youre homeland security, if youre the most elite of the elite, how could you have failed in almost every single thing that needed to be covered . Do you feel angry about losing him . Yeah. Very. Im angry because, uh, there were a lot of mistakes made that day. And it didnt have to happen. It didnt have to happen. There are mixed feelings about Donald Trumps return to butler. Some parents deciding to keep their children away. But in this staunchly pro trump county, many believe they owe it to the former president to welcome him back. Gary odonoghue, Bbc News butler, pennsylvania. Our correspondent will grant is in butler and says security will be tight for the event. The supporters who are already beginning to gather for this event well ahead of mr trumps arrival, will notice a number of differences to two months aGo, when the Assassination Attempt took place. Those, of course, who are coming back for a second time specifically, one of the key differences is that he will appear behind Bullet Proof Glass this time, and also, us Secret Service agents have been placed in and around the security perimeter, which has been widened. But of course, after so many institutional failings which took place that day, as you can imagine, security is much, much tighter and more noticeably tighter this time around. So who are we expecting to be there to watch what Donald Trump has to say . Well, its been interesting. I mean, as i mentioned, some of those who were there two months aGo are here. Thousands indeed have come back to underline their support. And a lot of people have come because of what they saw that day. They lived in pennsylvania. They were trump supporters. They wanted to come and show their support. But there are dignitaries, too, including elon musk, the boss of spacex and tesla. He will be with president , former president trump, as will the wife of the man who was killed, a formerfire chief, who was in the crowd that day. And of course, this all comes with just a month to Go until the election. So i assume Donald Trump will use this to attack Kamala Harris . Yeah, absolutely. I mean, one of the effects, if you like, in the immediate aftermath of the Assassination Attempt, mr trumps numbers strengthened quite noticeably in some polls. I think he is hoping that a sort of show of strength, of coming back to the very same spot where he spoke that day will help bolster his Poll Numbers again, because, as you say, there really are just weeks left to Go, days. And it is a very tight race, not here in Butler County itself. This is strong trump county. You know, hes very, very popular here. But the state is crucial. And of course, you know, nationally, this race is on a knife edge. It really could Go either way. French officals say four migrants have died trying to cross the channel To Britain including a two year old child who was trampled to death in a boat. According to french authorities, one of the boats involved was carrying almost 90 people. Translation despite these terrible events, there are still many migrants who try to travel by sea as soon as the weather is favourable, as it has been since thursday night, on our coast. So you should note that the pressure is very high. It began two decades aGo and now millions of people in more than 20 countries regularly take part in parkrun. Our reporter Charlotte Gallagher has been looking at the Weekend Activity that became an international exercise phenomenon. Starting horn. Its a Weekend Ritual for thousands of people across the uk and beyond. And this is where it all started Bushy Park in london. Back in 2004 there were just 13 runners taking part. Just look at the crowd now. Everybody who was at the very first parkrun, 20 years aGo, was given one of these Gold-bar'>Gold Bar codes on the tenth anniversary, so were called the parkrun pioneers. Itsjust a social thing, and i think thats missing in the world so much these days. So, yeah, walk, run, volunteer, just come and have a coffee, thats the best thing. Yeah. It gets the Heart RateGoing. Its just Good to get out, and its a Good start to the weekend as well. Got down here on a Winters Day and Summers Day and all the rest of it, and, yeah. Brilliant, its been fantastic, changed our lives, hasnt it . It has, it has. And we started talking over covid, didnt we, to start with . Yeah. And then sort of, i think because i had covid, so i had a costa delivered, and thats how it started, really and this is the man behind it all paul sinton hewitt. Its a wonderful story. Its, everybody is in this together. We are all invited. Inclusive for everybody. And yes, youre right, there are many, many people whose lives have been changed because of parkrun. The average time people take to finish the course is slowing down, but for paul, thats Good news. That shows that more and more average, regular people are involved in parkrun. Its not about athletics, its not about competition. We invite you to be the best you possibly can be. Well done, everyone. Parkrun is now in 23 countries and even held in some prisons. The event, which started with just a handful of people, is set to run and run. Charlotte gallagher, Bbc News, Bushy Park. Amazing event. Stay with us here on Bbc News. Hello there. October so far has given us some welcome relief from that relentless rain of september. Hope youve managed to get out and enjoy it. If youve had the sunshine so far this saturday, just Take A Look at this beautiful scene from barnsley. Hardly a cloud in the sky, but as we move through the week ahead, the Weather Story on the change again. Sunshine and blustery showers and then the potential for some wet and windy weather, particularly through the middle part of the week in the south. So Rainfall Accumulation showing were all Going to see some rain, but the brighter greens across South Wales and south west england, here we could see 70 to 80mm over the next few days. So low pressure will start to dominate the story once again. Were already seeing signs of that with Cloud And Rain moving in, and that is Going to continue to drift its way steadily north and east during the early hours of sunday morning. So thats acting like a blanket. Its Going to prevent those temperatures from falling too far, so it wont be as chilly a start as the mornings just past, but it will be a rather grey one for some of us. So, yes, central and eastern england seeing the best of the drier weather. A few scattered showers, but hopefully Hit And miss. Out to the west, thicker cloud, outbreaks of rain moving through northern ireland, wales and southwest england, and brighter colours denoting the intensity of that rainfall for a time. Temperatures are still likely to peak, though between 13 and 17 degrees, so in the drier, brighter interludes, thats pleasant enough. But as we Go through the evening hours, some of those showers could really turn quite heavy. As they move out of wales once again, up into the midlands and into the north of england. So they will take their time to clear away. But there will be some clearance down to the southwest. But its all about this low that is Going to continue to move its way steadily eastwards and then through the middle part of the week, weve Got another significant low pressure. This has the remnants of what was Hurricane Kirk in there. So at the moment it looks likely to stay to the south of the uk. But well need to keep firming up on those details as we get closer to wednesday. One things for certain, once that low moves through, the Wind Direction will swing around to more of a northerly and it will start to feel noticeably cooler as we head into the weekend. So be prepared for showers or longer spells of rain over the next few days. Israel continues striking beirut. A number of hospitals in lebanon are now closed because of the Air Strikes, with the humanitarian situation worsening by the hour.
