Narrator Hannah Elliott has a tough job, she gets to drive the most luxurious, hightech cars around the world for a living. Needless to say, she has an eye for the best of the best and says that a turbo charged grand tourismo is a surprisingly thrill he drive that will get you hooked fast. When you hear the word ferrari, you think fast, sleek, risque but you dont think practical. And ferrari is not the first car you think to take to pick up your christmas tree, but that is what i did. I drove a ferrari to an orchard and tree farm two hours outside of new york. I wanted to test out ferrari practicality. Welcome to barclays tree farm. I am Hannah Elliott. Im steve berkeley. Lets find your perfect tree. What kind of trees are these . Douglas fir and norway spruce. This is great. This is the one . Lets do it. There is not exactly enough rome enough room in the back for a tree, but it has all you need. It is a fourseat hatchback that ferrari debuted last year. It has something helpful, practical even. It is higher off the ground than a standard ferrari. Getting in and out was not the awkward struggle i have with sports cars. I would even call this shockingly drivable. This is the perfect ferrari for people who love to drive. I know that sounds crazy because it is a hatchback ferrari, but it has a v12, 680 horsepower engine on allwheeldrive. That means it has the beating heart of a ferrari track car that will compete with anything from lamborghini mclaren built into this package that is functional. And a traction system that ferrari calls thrust vectoring that smooths out the cars response to unstable conditions. I had this buying holiday decorations at target. We have the tree on the top. I had this in snow, slush, and ice. It performed so well. The front feels like a luxurious cockpit, which makes sense. The word means luxury in italian. The back is spacious enough for a couple of adults, and it roars from 062 in 3. 4 seconds. Top speed is 208, so what gives . Why did ferrari make a practical car . Well, to hold on to its loyal fans. There are rumors that ferrari will unveil an suv in 2018, but hopes to keep ferrari in the family with this car. So hang on ferrari fans, maybe next year santa will leave a prancing pony suv in the driveway. Until then, this will do. Narrator is there such a thing as a perfect car . Hannah elliott tells us the best coupe of the year is mercedes amg gtr, and when it comes to supercars, nothing beats the lamborghini. These beauties dont come cheap. Most are upwards of 150,000. If you are racing between holiday parties, dinners, and as long as you are not behind the wheel, pursuits has a guide to wines under 30. Check it out. The season is upon us, and everyone, including me, is thinking about what to pour for all those holiday gatherings. I am here to talk about the holidays and wine. I picked three under 30, yes, 30. The first one is a white, 2016 kerner, and it costs only 20. Kerner is an exotic white varietal, but what you need to know is that translates into division. This wine is also from an unusual varietal, and unusual, obscure varietals are in right now. It has a fantastic aroma. It has wonderful fruit flavors with bright, crisp. You feel it is bigger and will go with something serious in terms of the food. Now we are ready for the red. It is a 2014 from bordeaux, and it costs 27. Classic bordeauxs have to be aged for decades. They do not have to cost 100 and up. This is made from 100 , ready to drink right now. Lets taste. It has lovely plum aromas, just the way a bordeaux is supposed to. And charming fruit that is really delicious along with silky tanins. Because it is so fruity and easy to drink, it will go with everything from roasted turkey to a juicy prime rib, and it is perfect for white wine snobs to sip at a cocktail bar. Now for the best, sparkling wine. This is a brute from california, and it is only 25. It is a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir. It was aged in 19th century caves on diamond mountain. Now lets pop the cork. Bubbles are essential for the holidays and look festive in a glass. The smell of this wine is just baked brioche. The flavors are lemony tart and refreshing. Keep a few bottles in the fridge for when friends stop by or when you need to perk yourself up while you are cooking. Cheers. Narrator up next, better hurry to that auction house, because this painter may be on the road to being the next milliondollar artist. And we will show you how to make a man or lady cave in style. Speaking of unique takes, a founder of a lite brite neon studio shows us how he creates his installations. There is an attraction to light and being human. I think on a very deep, psychological level, light is this way in which we experience the energy in a very personal manner. I am the founder of lite brite neon studio, and we manufacture , produce, and restore neon works of art and design. Origins create content of a lot of the work. Lite brite comes from a variety of sources. Sometimes people come with a napkin sketch or a file, then we Work Together to create and layout what it might look like. We create a paper template, and that paper template becomes our guide for what we are going to bend the neon to. We take from the office into the glass shop. We pick out the right side tubing with the right color. From there we heat up the glass tubing. The torches heat the glass in excess of 1000 degrees. That is in order for it to get into its molten state. We heat up and bend the glass tubing to match the template. One of our chandeliers has over 100 different bends, and each one has to be heated up and we we have to allow the glass to cool so the next area can be worked on. It turns into spaghetti, then we have to make sure that spaghetti lines back up and cools to the template. We use a blow hose to connect our mounts to the tubes and we can control the pressure with our mounts. There is just a variety of challenges that come up inherently in working with glass. Glass can crack due to stress, and sometimes you will have a batch that all it wants to do when he gets near a torch is crack. After we bend various components, we have to go in using the hand torch and weld all those pieces together. The last step is to weld on electrodes on to either end. Each one of the steps is very, very specific. I draw inspiration from so many different experiences. It is hard to come up with one thing in particular, but one of the ways i am able to connect with the creative is to flow. Floating is a similar experience to meditation. Going into a blackened room and laying out in a body of water and salt that is heated to your body temperature. It allows external stimulation to fall away. Your internal world begins to bubble up and manifest. You really get to experience a different relationship to your mind. I think i work with neon because i cant not work with it. It is so challenging and so rewarding, and those things are so intertwined that there is no way of separating it out. I learned so much and continue to learn so much by working with it. I find inspiration in working with it, and i continue to experience new and Different Things through the medium. It is that close to me. Once the neon tube is completed, we have to to hook it up to our manifold for bombarding. The manifold is opened, the vacuum is drawn. We check the tubes for leaks with our tesla coils. We close the tube back off and he it up using a large and powerful transformer. As the tube is heated up, it is releasing anything not inert and we evacuate that out. We introduce the gasket into it. Introduce the gas into it. We seal the tube off, filling in whatever gas we introduced to it. I think my favorite part of making a neon light is when you see it lit up for the first time. Different gases when electrified emit different wavelengths of light. Gas is a very bright color. Argon gas creates an intense blue. But that light produced can be exposed to a different wavelength by coating the inside of the tubes with a coating. It takes that wavelength of light and emits a different wavelength. We bring it over to the table where we hook it up to a transformer and allow it to settle and age the gas we have introduced to it. There is always a stray particle or something left inside the tube. That time the oxide coating can act to scrub whatever is left inside the tube while things are getting settled. Once the tubes are aged in, we move on to our process of assembly and put the fixture together in a jig, hooking it up to a spindle. Once the piece is dried, we connect the wires together into a transformer and turn on power and it lights up. Part of what we love about what we do here is that we try to put out into the world the kinds of things that we would like to see. I am still surprised and excited when i get to see it illuminated. There is an ineffable quality to it. There is an insight into the inner workings of the universe. It is a way of looking at what is surrounding us in the cosmos.
