A new social housing building in Melbourne’s Dandenong emanates a civic presence as well as providing living space that is robust and low-maintenance.
Commissioned by Housing Choices Australia (HCA), the apartments replaced a smaller 1950s walk-up arrangement.
The building’s overscaled apertures in the shape of a set of goggles frame distant views over suburbia.

Says architect Rachel Nolan, a director of Kennedy Nolan Architects, who worked closely with project architect Victoria Reeves: “The idea was to increase the density while still offering a high level of amenity.”
