India aims to establish coal gasification and liquefaction capacity of 100 million tonnes by 2030, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This initiative aligns with the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and is expected to reduce reliance on imports of critical items such as natural gas, methanol, and ammonia. Coal gasification is considered a viable and clean technology that can contribute to the production of synthetic fuels, chemicals, and power generation while meeting environmental requirements. The move is expected to benefit sectors like steel, chemicals, petrochemicals, and fertilizers.
