Buses clad in colourful Wellington-themed wraps designed by kids to hit the roads

“I was inspired by snorkelling in the Taputeranga Marine Reserve.
“For my design I wanted to show other people in Wellington what it was like under the sea and how many creatures live in the marine reserve.”

Ellie’s design features famous scenes and landmarks from around Wellington including the Beehive, Matariki - the southern right whale, and Michael Tuffery’s Nga Kina waterfront sculpture.
The buses made their maiden voyages in their new livery, ferrying the designers and their families from Grenada Village to Island Bay. The buses will serve on the number 1 route from Johnsonville to Island Bay from late April.
