Synopsis
The PM has opted for more youth with the average age of the council of ministers down to 58 from 61 after this expansion exercise. He has increased the number of women in his council to 11. Significantly, he has also focused on bringing in a large number of lower and middle caste ministers, possibly keeping in mind upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and later, Gujarat.
One of the most significant political entries into the cabinet was that of BJP general secretary Bhupendra Yadav (R). His elevation has been a long time coming, having been talked about in previous reshuffles as well.
