Calcutta High Court flags concern over decreasing green cover in Kolkata; halts Railways' plan to uproot 700 trees
While passing interim directions to halt plans for uprooting trees at a maidan in Kolkata, the Calcutta High Court said that the Maidan, shorn of trees, would irrevocably change the city "to a thirsty and arid space."
