The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed a new plan to ensure successful landing of its 'Chandrayaan-3' Vikram lander even if its sensors or engines malfunction. The ISRO chairman explained the robustness of its well-engineered architecture and advanced algorithms. The lander is set to touch down on the lunar surface on 23 August 2021. Advanced de-orbiting maneuvers will align the spacecraft with the lunar surface, followed by an intricate sequence of strategic manoeuvres, to ensure a secure touchdown. ISRO's meticulous approach has contingency plans in place.
