In his speech during the peace covenant signing here on Monday, provincial elections supervisor lawyer Ericson Oganiza said that in the past elections, a lot of cases were filed against candidates for violating the rules on poster size and for posting at undesignated common areas. However, Oganiza said cases filed had been dismissed because of lack of participation of the complainants. "Marami tayong kinasuhan sa mga nagdaang election, ngunit ang mga kasong ito ay na-dismiss dahil sa hindi pakikipagtulungan ng mga nagreklamo na sila dapat tatayong testigo (We have filed cases in the past elections. However, these were dismissed because the complainants did not cooperate as they should be the witness)," he said. Oganiza added complainants should constantly coordinate with the Comelec until the cases are filed to discipline candidates who violate simple electoral guidelines. Last week, the Comelec, together with other concerned government agencies, conducted a Regional Oplan Baklas wherein truckloads of illegally posted campaign materials were torn down. Meanwhile, local candidates from the provincial down to the city or municipal level have joined the simultaneous unity walk and peace covenant signing all over the province. Various stakeholders from the government and non-government organizations have participated in the event for the peaceful and orderly national and local elections on May 9. (PNA) }
