THIS photo documents the arrival of one of the most popular features in Bolton town centre.
Crowds would gather every day in Victoria Square to see the progress being made on constructing two new hexagonal shaped fountains at either side of the war memorial.
Taken in October 1964, this picture also shows the first of a number of new trees being planted in the square.
Two-way traffic would flow through Victoria Square and along Newport Street until the early 1970s. In the top right of the picture you can see the area now occupied by the Wellsprings development being used as a car park.
