Chairman. [applause] this is the first to follow. Oh. It donald trump comes. Let me tell you, we were back seeing about 90 of that from afar. That is one of the great things of our president. Great things. The economy is up. [inaudible] you see how much he cares about this great country, our military , hardworking people. I think everybody here got a picture of that. Absolutely. They have a lot of reasons to be excited right now. They have an ally in the white house that controls all three branches of government. In the last year, republicans failed to repeal obamacare. Many voted for a budget deal that busted through the savings caps that conservatives thought to secure. Other immigration talks that would extend that would character as the amnesty to deal of 2 million people. What is the argument that you would make to conservative voters to turn out in november to put more republicans in washington if these are the kinds of results you see . Take more it will republicans than actually are willing to do what they promised the American People they would do when they can with a campaign. Jim says it best, it never hurts to do what you told the American People you would do. We need to get back to work. Senateays a week in the is not in North Carolina we call that a vacation. They call it a work week. It is time we get some things done. 51 votes and the senate. And of this 60 vote deal. I would say we need to campaign on what we have accomplished in 2017. There is more work that needs to be done. Tore is more we have to do keep working with the American People on that issue. When it comes to immigration, we as much as said, we have to do what we told the American People we would do. What the 2016 election was about. Wall first, and chain migration, get rid of the visa lottery, garrett of st. Mary cities. That is the focus that we have. The president wants us to focus on those things that we told him he would do. Let us get those things done. Let us talk about immigration. We are getting closer to the Expiration Date for daca. We see talks and the senate not progressing with immigration. Why do we not see the house moving on any and on any immigration talks . I think we need to. We have been supportive of a more conservative bill in the house. It is the peoples house. Things, hasizes those ending chain migration mainly with sanctuary cities. Making sure the rule of law is upheld. You can have someone come across the border, they can be apprehended by Border Security agents, and many of them get a free pass. What they do is get a deferred adjudication. The get a work permit, they get to come in, and they are going to show up before a judge later. I think we need to go ahead and do that. Im on our leadership the past a conservative bill in the house and it makes the senate come to us and the president if they really want to deal with it. That is what we need to do. Do you think there is any bill that could get only republican support in the house but still somehow also meet that 60 vote threshold in the senate . I am much more concerned about doing what the American People elected us to do than trying to satisfy some 60 votes. We have to get rid of the 60 vote role. We said in as couple of times. We make this job too complicated. What did you say you would do when you ran for the job, what did they elect you to do, and what was the mandate of the 2016 election . Immigration policy is not the grand bill, it is the bill that has been introduced in the house which prioritizes things in the way, policies and the way i just described. Border security wall, chain migration, sanctuary cities, you do all of this and then the American People say we are willing to deal with the daca situation. It has to be done in that prioritizing fashion or is or it is not consistent with the mandate of the election. Use said immigration is a defining moment for the speaker. You are supposed to easy questions. You think he is rising to that moment right now . It is a defining moment. And you have our leadership i use that floral, it is not just the speaker and the leader, it is leadership in the house. At this particular point, what we have to do is show real leadership. If we cave, the American People will remember it. You will remember it in november, and you should. I am tired of the talk. It is time we get things done. That was my call on leadership to make sure that we go ahead and put it on the floor and vote on it. Nationalsly, the conversation is turning to guns in the wake of the tragedy in parkland. President trump has been talking about this issue quite a bit. To thecans see more open possibility of doing some sort of gun control compromise than any time in recent memory. What do you think of the direction of the present is steering the conversation . That coach you gave his life for his students, if he was able to have a firearm there to protect himself, those kids that he gave his life for some of the president spoke clearly and very eloquently about this a few minutes ago. Proper training. Every Single Church i know of has that same kind of policy. Their parishioners each sunday who have the training. The president talked about how they have a policy in place that certain people are carrying a concealed firearm to protect the folks at the service. That makes sense for schools to read the president can articulate better way that no one else can. [applause] this point, all of this and the information gathering mode, when you start to fundamentally look at removing our constitutional protected liberties, that is not a good starting place. Let us think about it. There were a lot of people that notified the health and Human Services group in that particular area that this individual allegedly had some real trouble. That was a government agency. Then they notified the fbi there were problems. I was a government agency. That we had a School Resource officer that was there that did not engage. That was a government agency. We have three Government Agencies and in unbelievable tragedy. To suggest that more government is the answer is not a good starting point. [applause] have, both of you performed a lot of congressional oversight in your roles on your various committees. There has been some congressional oversight of the fbi and the doj that critics have described as an effort to undermine the fbi whether were talking about the handling of the dossier or text between different fbi agents. The only undermining has been of the constitution of the united states. [applause] have top you cannot people at the fbi take some salacious and unverified document, not my words, james comeys word, dress it up and pretend it is intelligence and take it to a secret going to file on a fellow citizen. It does not work that way. The problem is with the people at the top. Jim conley is gone, he just let this past week. Lisa has been reassigned. He is leaving the fbi and jim baker has been demoted or reassigned. That is where the problem is. We are trying to get to the bottom of these and ask the questions to get answers the American People. What needs to happen, something mark and i called for seven months ago, is a Second Special counsel. Dont like special counsel but you need it to get to the bottom of this matter in a way that gives the good folks of this country the answer they deserve. I think the other part of that is, this whole collusion narrative, we have had months and months, probably more investigation into the collusion between this president and the russians and what were finding is the narrative is starting to change. If there is collusion, it is not with donald trump and the russians. How many of you got russians to get you here today . Come on. Let us face it. When we are looking at what we are talking about, if there is collusion to be found and there is some evidence of that would suggest that, it is really with the Hillary Campaign and the russians, not the other way around. [applause] yes a great question last week when fbi director ray was in front of the senate. Yes director rate if you heard of this name. He is a russian oligarch. They asked him about whether Christopher Steele who wrote the dossier together was employed by their the fbi directors response was i cannot talk about that. We do not know if that was the case. If it was the case, the guy who put together the dossier was being paid for by clinton for america, the Democrat National committee, and maybe a russian oligarch. That is scary if that took place. These are the kind of things we need to get to the bottom of. That is why we need a Second Special counsel. Let me jump in on one thing. We talked about gun control earlier. We talked about our law enforcement. We love our law enforcement. The vast majority of fbi are wonderful, serving individuals who love the rule of law. Fundamentally, what happened in the white house the last few days on this whole gun debate, it really is what distinguishes us as a nation. Or somene in china other place had a problem with the way their government operated, we would push back. They would say things in another foreign area, you might be sent to jail. What happens in america, you get an invitation to the white house for an honest dialogue. That is what makes america great. That is what we need to support. [applause] President Trump himself mentioned in his speech that there is a possibility that republicans could get clobbered in november. Many of your colleagues are choosing not to run again, perhaps out of fear they could soon be in the minority. Do you think that is the reason we are seeing a historic number of republicans stepped down . I think it can be a fine year for republicans. I talked about the first year ended the things that got done. We just have to campaign hard. We need to do what we told the voters we would do. The press will never say it for us. Other than sarah, everyone elses mark and i tell our colleagues all the time, look, if the press is not saying some thing bad about you, youre probably not doing anything good. That is the lay of the land. Aboute to go out and talk the tax cuts, the progress we are making, and continue to do good things this year. I think it. Depends on people that are here. The truth of the matter is it is the voice of the people that makes the biggest difference. If the people that are here, that next generation, a lot of the young folks, they come in the next generation of conservatives, if they truly show up and they get engaged and they actually support conservatives, we have found that conservative policy actually, it puts more prongs back in your pocket. I have a hundred dollar crime hundred dollar crumb here. If the midterms do not go well, does that suggest the need for a change in public and leadership in congress . Maybe a push from House Freedom caucus leaders such as yourself . Would you have designs on leadership if the midterms do not go well . [applause] heather weve never been afraid of pushing. Who thenot afraid of speaker of the house is as i am about the house leader. Truth of the matter is, you need to make sure that if your member of congress does not see the light, they need to feel the heat. Get on the phone, make sure they do that, god bless you, and i believe you are doing it. Thank you and god bless you. Thank you all very much. It was great to be with you. [applause] ajit pai, the chairman of the federal Communications Commission thought he was going to deliver a speech today. You probably alrekn
