Hawaii spoke at the rainbow Push Coalition. It is 45 minutes. [applause] sen. Warren good morning, church. Good morning, rainbow push. It is so good to be here this morning. It is good to be in the house of the lord. Oh, yes. I am here this morning because this country is in a time of crisis. We are in a fight for the very soul of our nation. When we are in this kind of fight, this kind of battle, we need allies who know how to fight and know how to win. [applause] strong, ren we need persistent fighters. We need fighters who know that giving up is not an option. We need bold leaders we need principled leaders who have the courage to fight for their convictions. We need giants who know that social change is possible only when we join together across lines of inference lines of difference. We need a champion like our reverend jesse jackson. [applause] sen. Warren thank you. For generations under the leadership of our reverend jesse jackson, the National Push coalition has been on the frontline of the fight for justice. Im here today to let you know how proud i to stand how proud i am to stand shoulder to shoulder with the reverend jackson and you in this fight. Ever, the mission and mandate of rainbow Push Coalition is finally important. Heres the truth. The fight for social, racial, and Economic Justice is far from over. A newday, we wake up to attack. Attacks on our values, tax on democracy attacks on democracy, attacks on the most vulnerable among us. These fights are hard and, at times, it can seem that our labor is in vain. But i am here to tell each and everyone of you, our fight is a righteous fight. Fight, weighteous fight until we win. [applause] sen. Warren so, i grew up in oklahoma in the methodist church. Every sunday in the methodist church, my mother every wednesday at methodist womens circle. When i had babies, i took my babies to church. At this point, i was down in texas, a Little Church down there, and i tried to help out like most people do. I would bring a covered dish to our meetings. Sometimes we would have them on friday night. You could always count on me for costumes for the christmas or easter pageant or whatever the kids were moving together. One day, the pastor came up to me and said, elizabeth, i would like you to teach sunday school. I said, reverend, ive got little kids, my own teaching job. He said, i would really like you to teach sunday school, the fifthgraders. We had a teacher quit and we really need you to teach fifth Grade Sunday School. He finally reaches out and mybbed the arm and grabs arm and says, i really need you to teach sunday school. The third teacher that quit. I said, is there a problem fifth grade . Hardid, it is not that just so long as nobody gets hurt. I keep trying this and the pastor, a little like reverend jackson, he puts the arm on you, you come through. I show up to teach my fifth Grade Sunday School class. I dont know how to describe this. The kids are wild. They are everywhere, having a good time, but not much to do with the sunday school lesson. In the space of the first two to three weeks, they cut each others hair, they glue a bunch of stuff together. We are on the first floor fortunately because at 1. 1 of the little boys at one point one of the little boys climbed out of the window. There is one thing i do know how to do, and it is teach. I was a special needs teacher, im now teaching in law school. Surely, i can do this. I got my kids together on about the fourth sunday. I said, everybody sit down. We will read a story about the bible and i will ask you some questions about this. They all read about noah and they are still giggling and twisting in the seats. I said, how do you think noah felt when he heard god . Of course, they gave lots of giggly answers. Like, am i going crazy . Is it a spaceman talking to me . After a while, they start to get engaged. What would that mean . God spoke directly to you and told you about something that was going to happen in this world. We actually had a pretty good class. So, did it again the next week. Brought in a different story, started asking them questions. Gaveve up doing the art, up cutting each others hair, and we focused on the bible questions. One day, we were reading a passage about charity. The children were struggling with a question about charity. Charity, youe with dont have to give, but you have to think about what you owe. I was asking the question, what do we owe each other . They go back and forth. They figure out some parts of it, that you dont push your brother down. You dont hit kids. I get that. Another kid said, you dont put food. S in your brothers note to self, dont eat at their house. I had one kid was always pretty quiet, bigger than the other kids. His name was jesse. He didnt volunteer too much, i tried to draw him in. I said, do you have an idea what we owe each other . Turn. D, everybody gets a i thought, yeah. Turn. D, everybody gets a i thought of that is very much like the passage from matthew. I know you know the passage but i want to remind everyone and see if we can link these up. Matthew 25. You ready . Im old school so this is going to be king james version, ok . [applause] sen. Warren let me set the story up. If theres no one in here who doesnt know the story, it is that the sheep are being divided from the goats. Just so you understand, sheep are going to heaven, the goats most definitely are not. The shepherd has the sheep on one side and the goats on the other. Heres the passage. And then he shall set the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left. Then shall the king say unto them on his right hand, come inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the yeld, for i was hungry and gave me meat, i was thirsty and ye gave me drink, i was a stranger and he took me in. Aked and he clothed me unto in prison and he came me. And then shall the righteous answer, when shall we be hungered or thursday. Thirhepherd hungered or sty. The shepherd said, i dont remember seeing the lord. Sick or in prison and came unto thee. And the king shall answer and untonto them, verily i say these the least of my brother and he has done it unto thee. What that is is all about. For me, there are three lessons in that passage. God andt, that there is everyone of us. Who lookust in those like the lord, god in every one of us. There is god and the children, in the hungry, in those who are in prison. The second thing it says to me is that we are not called simply to observe, not called just to have a good heart, we are called to act, to feed the hungry, to bring water to the thirsty, to visit the imprisoned. The third is that we are called to act without promise of reward. We are called to act because it is right. Country and iis hear from the american people, they share their struggles, they share their fears, they share their concerns. The people know what is right and they are ready to act. They know that they have been called for such a time as this and they are willing to step up. I am here today to say that none of us is alone in this fight. When i am president , we will answer this call together. [applause] sen. Warren this is not a call for another round of empty promises. This is not a call for another round of vague ideas. Reala call for real plans to make real changes in our lives and in our communities. And yes, i have a plan for that. Too many for today, but let me mention just a few to remind everyone. Some of you may know that i have proposed a twocent wealth tax on the richest fortunes in this country. Everything over 50 million, twocents. This is what we can do with two cents. We can provide universal childcare for every one of our kids. We can provide universal prek for every threeyearold and fouryearold in this country. We can raise the wages of every childcare worker and preschool teacher in america. We can make public technical andols, community college, fouryear State College free to everyone of our kids. Field level the playing into our50 billion historically black colleges and universities. [applause] cancelrren and we can of the loan debt for 95 kids who have got it. [applause] sen. Warren yes. Thean begin to close blackwhite wealth gap with these plans. But there is so much more. I have a plan to fund black entrepreneurs. Lets close the entrepreneurship gap. I have a plan to counter the effects of redlining. The massplan to end incarceration of millions of our brothers and sisters by banning private prisons. No one should make a profit from locking people up. [applause] i have a plan to make sure that every american citizen gets to vote and gets that vote counted. [applause] this is an yes, moment of tremendous challenge, but i believe this is the moment we have been called to. I make you this promise when i am president , we will answer this call together. We will answer this call, and we will stand with one another. To makeanswer the call health care, affordable housing, and education for every child a basic human right. [applause] sen. Warren we will answer the america wherean the difference between a good education and a prison sentence isnt just a few blocks. [applause] sen. Warren we will answer the that everye certain working person, every working person, regardless of race, creed, or economic background, every working person is paid a living wage so they can build a secure future for themselves and their families. [applause] sen. Warren we will answer the call to build an america that commits to educating our children before it criminalizes them. [applause] sen. Warren we will answer the america where a run in with Law Enforcement or a turn down the wrong Street Corner doesnt cost you your life because of the color of your skin. [applause] we will answer the whereo build an america federal solutions to local byblems are made communities, for communities, in communities, where no one is communityleave their to find equal opportunity. We will answer the call to end mass incarceration in this country. [applause] sen. Warren and when i am president , we will create a country in which, like matthew 25, every human being has a value, and we turn our backs on we will start right here in chicago. [applause] i know the challenges we face are enormous, and the forces that stand against us will stop at nothing to divide us, to turn us against each other. In timesof struggle, of uncertainty, i often turn to scripture for inspiration to keep the faith and to stay in the fight. Timothy. Me it is 2 ti not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Because i amfight not afraid. I know our fight is a righteous fight. We if we stand together, if fight together, if we persist big and, if we dream fight hard, then we will win and make the america of [indiscernible] thank you. Thank you. [applause] sen. Klobuchar thank you so much, reverend, for your wisdom, all you have done to advance truth and justice in this country. Thank you to the bishop,
