The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines has awarded $100,000 to the Des Moines Area Religious Council and $50,000 to Proteus Inc. through Leadership Grants made possible by the Better Together Fund. According to a news release, Leadership Grants are centered on equity and serving populations disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The grant to DMARC will help support the relocation of its warehouses and headquarters to help it meet the growing need for food assistance in the community. The grant will allow DMARC to store and distribute increasing quantities of food and various personal products in the fight against poverty. The grant to Proteus will help the company in providing medical and behavioral health to agricultural families and workers by bringing mobile health care clinics to meat processing plants and offering follow-up care through existing clinics or telehealth services. According to the release, at least 100 new patients from meat processing facilities will be served.
