You tell us about the Jewish Community there well i mean the Jewish Community are actually quite active and this is an important scene there is an important center of jewish life in germany and has been for many years we dont really know yet i mean how many people were in the synagogue but at least youll get bored as you mention and these are the High Holy Days so i mean it can be assumed that there were quite a few people being in the middle of the day chances are. You know chances are the break is in effect so this is something that we will essentially have to wait to see what the situation was and as we mentioned young cupola today how important explain to us how important this is actually the sort of the High Holy Days its actually sort of they come together with new years who are true and he were scald russia nonkosher a young are known to gather a High Holy Days or you know i mean the days the terrible days are actually so these are the time this is the time in which not only the Community Comes together that young to put in particular is sort of a services. Synagogue service is divided into 5 parts which means that for almost 24 hours you have people circulating in the sea no dog you know it is a time obviously which also a lot of the Jewish Community is concentrated in single place putting them of course at a higher risk that if their individual be this person in the city or at another time like any given saturday or friday in which there would be of course a lower attendance that you would have at this time of year that we dont want to speculate we dont know the motives its really important to stress that we dont know the motives of these shootings but how talk us through the Jewish Community today in germany how are at risk i mean i dont think that we would say that there is a risk of this kind that we have sort of consistently seen what we have seen there are sort of different types of sort of probably what we might call lower grade antisemitism sort of individual attacks or abuse of different kinds which essentially have proceeded from 2 places i mean some of it has come from sort of a Muslim Community which in some cases is found to have you know some of and say some made a bridge judgments that we would find in common parlance on the other hand germany still has a fairly serious problem with more traditional right i mean to someone i think that the Jewish Community in many of his expressions has seen itself combating both of these fronts we have seen it sort of in many of the jewish dignitaries and you know leaders in the community here as well less rabbis or rowing not too long ago was beaten in the streets of charlottenburg i mean these are things we see but i think that what is important to take into consideration is that the outlines of what is being reported are of a much higher magnitude that the kind of things that we have seen so far. And given the fact that this is germany the question of the health and wellbeing of its Jewish Community because of its past is of enormous enormous not only star equal importance but political importance so i think that its. Hard to say that the one thing that we can say is that this will probably have a strong reaction from sort of a broad baria of political actors how sick you are jewish monuments synagogues for example in germany on a just a regular day to day basis generally around europe all together Jewish Centers synagogues jewish schools are essentially under constant security and this is something that has had to do with several things but probably the most important have been the different areas attacks against jewish communities and friends of cores in belgium in denmark called so and this means that generally the different governments have assigned sort of constant security to centers but of course i mean its not possible to be under constant alert. And its not possible to be in a state of alert that is constant for this kind of photog i mean so you know i do not have the sense i mean you know that the Jewish Community has seen this kind of thing sort of you know directly regulate the gates but its very clear that there were all sorts of signs that there is a wave of antisemitism that is actually moving through europe and its moving both from the right the extreme right and from the lift. We keep wanting to reiterate that we dont know the motivation of these attacks you know it is too early to speculate but if its a lead jewish people being targeted what does that mean for japanese Jewish Population its a very good question i mean one of the things that we have seen in friends which is something that should really would worry the german the german Political Community enormously is essentially or almost must migration to israel this is scott dystrophin for friends and the french have made it very clear. That it would be somebody something of incredible magnitude for germany a country that took 70 years a century to try to rebuild a jewish life keep in mind that the jewish life in germany was. Center this is really a raw nerve the starches and i said i mean i do expect for the sort of swift reaction to these well back on religious Affairs Correspondent thanks very much for bringing us up to date with the weather so have we as weve been reporting police in holland have arrested one person in connection with the shooting incident in the city reports indicate an attack took place in front of a synagogue here is a closer look at where the incident is reported to have occurred in humboldt in hollows powerless district today is young kapoor one of the most important holidays in jewish faith please have told residents to stay in their homes trying company have confirmed that its closed down the nearby hollow train station until further notice from data brady joins us from leipzig which is very close to the city of hama where the shooting took place kate bring us up to speed with the latest. Well so far what we know is that 2 people were killed in that shooting and harlots about 30 those who 4 kilometers away from here in light sick in eastern germany but we know now that one perpetrator one suspect at least has been arrested by police but there are also reports that a 2nd suspect could still be on the run they are said to have fled the scene of that shooting in hama in a car and so at the moment the police and authorities in closer here in lights where i am now they have been running a stream e y. Operation to capture that 2nd suspect as quickly as possible and ive also spoken to police here in life 2nd they said at the moment that operation. Routine presence here in the city of lights it isnt changing at the moment they are like the rest of us are waiting for more information and following this story as it develops and also whats happening not far from here in the city of hala ok were looking at some pictures from the saying and one of 14 of one of the people who was killed in the incident. Why i know its very early days but do we know anything about the amount of possible motives of this attack. Well of the most humans thirtys and police in holland have said the motivation is not yet confirmed behind this attack so you follow we know that the suspect one of the suspects was reportedly according to an eyewitness who spoke to german media media shortly after this attack he was ever possibly wearing a military military uniform but we also know that they say these attacks there were 2 attacks one of close to a combat shop in holland and also outside of a synagogue and now as you mentioned that that the possible motivation behind this attack we dont yet know but of course the fact that it took place outside of a synagogue has certainly been cause for concern here in germany already. And of course today as well is also young kid puts the most solemn day in judaism and so its most likely that a lot more people than usual will have been attending synagogue today for services that go on throughout the day so of course that is a great cause for concern and theres also a local media reports that a hand grenade was thrown by by one of the suspects into a jewish graveyard just before these shootings also took place but at the moment we dont have any my savation confirms. You mentioned that there were possibly multiple shooters and 2 reported shootings im assuming that these 2 shootings were in fact connected. Do we know anything at else about the possible attackers. So far we dont know anything else weve heard also actually from the. Owner of the coffee shop where one of these shootings took place hes currently out of the country at the moment and i actually heard from one of his employees that a shooting had taken place and that one person was killed in that she said you know his name his combat shop but at the moments where you get more information every few minutes from all thora tapes from police were following the story as it develops but at the moment the main concern of the police and authorities here by the heller and he and life sequel iman in the surrounding area is to find that 2nd suspect at the moment and the 2nd a 2nd suspect is still thought to be on the loose one suspect has already been arrests is and that a Police Operation is set to continue now and whether or not that will affect how things continue throughout the day here and life sake thats still yet to be seen and of course today is actually a rather important day in the city of lights saying the german president from fall to shine maya was here until just a couple of hours ago so security was already a lot higher than usual here in lights and he was commemorating. Some of the pivotal demonstrations the monday demonstrations in the peaceful revolution that took place here all the square and around the city behind me 30 years ago sit day in the city of lights again later on tonight like every day for the past 10 years is expected to be thousands of people filling this very square that im stood on now as part of the commemorations of those pivotal demonstrations and protests 30 years ago at the moment it seems like all of those plans are set to go ahead but of course it will be interesting to see how many people decide to come out tonight especially after the shootings only 30. Well im joined now by Thomas SparrowPolitical Correspondent thomas i believe theres a video that shows one of the suspects shooting behind a vehicle what what can you tell us about it and there is if there is indeed a video or especially on social media which possibly shows someone or shows someone shooting we havent been able to confirm independently whether that is the shooter that were talking about here but he has added another element another piece of information to all this puzzle that authorities are now trying to put together when it comes to the shooting incidents in the eastern german city of actually looking at those pictures right now which do appear to show. Yeah as you say. Suspect shooting and from behind a vehicle. We must really stress that this is come from social media thats right one ones many authorities in speaking now over of a rampage situation thats i mean thats coming also coming in page and thats coming from police thats coming from the city of the city of hala so this is a developing story its developing with new information actually very quickly the last bit of information that has been released by the police in how that is that theyre now talking to eyewitnesses trying to again find more information about what happened and why it happened that question about the why which is very important is still absolutely im unclear we dont know anything about the why police are 1st trying to put together the you what that element of what exactly happened and where what they have released so far is that 2 people have died that multiple shots were heard that possible shooters endure a world to run and that one person has already been detained were not sure whether that person detained was one of the possible. Shooters or someone related to them in a more broad sense weve also heard from authorities in the city of. All authorities there are on high alert and that a special committee has also been called its a committee that deals with emergencies in the city of holly so also from the political side politicians are all trying to see how they can support authorities on the ground and how they can try and find more information regarding this particular incident this also Additional Information coming in about a 2nd shooting incident not far away from a place called i believe yet being confirmed by police well one Police Spokesperson told German Agency d. P. A. That they had been a 2nd shooting incident in nuns bourke which is 15 kilometers away it is still unclear whether those 2 incidents are related and what exactly happened in india but d. P. A. Which is germanys biggest news agency has quoted a Police Spokesperson as saying that there was this incident in which so we have these 2 incidences in and in landsberg there was also an additional piece of information im sorry to out so many pieces of information that a Police Spokesman said that the incident in how they had happened close to a synagogue but it is unclear whether that is related to the issue itself there were other reports saying that he had happened close to a Street Restaurant so there are multiple versions there and again we ought to be very careful trying to avoid speculation trying to focus only on what authorities have been saying on this instances and only focus on what Police People are also trying to to reveal what is behind the case who might have been behind the case and what the instances and the and the motives might of course nobody wants to speculate in these incidences we have seen them in germany in the past and elsewhere and its a new jump on anything too early but in. Happening close to a synagogue a video is perhaps somehow related to that what would that mean for you mentioned earlier also that its your kapoors are over there were a lot of people there at the time again this is still unclear whether the shooting case is related in any way to the synagogue on this facility that is something that authorities have not yet said the way these things develop at the beginning from a security perspective is police trying to cordon off the area police try as they have just said to speak to some of the witnesses try and put all these pieces together obviously in this particular case is a clear focus on trying to detain trying to capture the people involved as it is one person that has already been detained by police but police had earlier spoken of multiple possible shooters who had been who were on the run who had escaped in a car so that is obviously one of the key elements of police is not trying to identify whether that person that was detained how he or she was related to the possible shooters who else was involved so in other words trying to identify whether there was a group or a network in any possible way and that will then in turn help authorities to identify what the possible motive might have been and you mentioned the wood rampage which was actually used by the city itself so you know obviously still this is an ongoing situation where were trying to piece together whats happening as a Police Obviously and youve been following security incidences in germany for quite some time how is the response. You know compared to other responsible you have a response in into possible ways you have response obviously by the public so by people in the affected city and in most cases that is confusion that is obviously people fearing people are fearful people dont know how to react to these kinds of things and thats why police for example right from the very beginning people to stay indoors and try and be safe weve seen that. Other cases that it these situations generate a lot of confusion so dr reflects why police and authorities are act specifically addressing citizens and telling them to stay at home and also to avoid any speculation thats one side of the of the reaction the other side is obviously how authorities deal with this situation how authorities react to all of this and you see on the one hand obviously authorities they have to react immediately so police for example cordoning off the area also trying to speak to witnesses and at the same time politicians also putting in practices there that plans and that plans normally have to do with what i mentioned just a 2nd ago that committee that is normally very quickly put together to deal with emergency situations something that by the way the mayor of holly already indicated that he had put in place so from a political side theres analysis theres already reaction from a police stun point theres reaction and i guess also from the population itself police are asking people to be vigilant but at the same time to stay at home and try and avoid any unnecessary risks so it comes at a time of high alert there was an incident yesterday we assume unrelated and obviously we want to speculate there 2 separate incidents but it has heightened awareness here again once again in germany in a little bit of math and few weeks ago i would clearly say that people were not speaking about the security situation in the country a lot there were other topics they were on the top of the agenda here in germany but the fact that we had an incident yesterday in the state of hesse where someone took a truck and crashed a truck into various vehicles that led to a big investigation which is still not concluded about what possible motives might have been behind this case and the incident that were discussing now in these 2 instances together have heightened i would say. That idea that there might be a sense of insecurity in germany among the german population but again that explains why a thaw.
