The City of Edmonton handed out 17 $100 fines to electric scooter users illegally riding on sidewalks during an enforcement blitz over the Victoria Day weekend.
This is the first time the city has issued tickets for the offence since e-scooters were introduced on Edmonton streets in 2019. Between May 21 and May 24, 127 warnings were also given to educate riders about the rules, city spokesman Mark Torjusen said in a statement to Postmedia Tuesday afternoon. During the 2019 and 2020 seasons combined, the city only gave 59 warnings.
