The inquiry into the treatment of Innu children in care resumed Monday with Mary Pia Benuen’s emotional testimony. She said her parents abused alcohol but fought ferociously to prevent their children from being taken by social services or the police. Benuen said it was some of her father’s advice that strengthened a resolve in her — and led her to successes like becoming the first Labrador Innu nurse and now Sheshatshiu's health director.
