Indian plant-based protein company Evolved Foods has raised INR73m ($1m) in its seed round, led by Rainmatter Health, which is backed by Zerodha, and Kamala Capital. The round also saw a number of angel investors participate. Evolved aims to counter protein deficiency in the average Indian diet, using soy, coconut, rice protein and other ingredients to make its Evolved Plant Meat. “Most Indians don't get enough protein in their diets, and this is a problem," said Dilip Kumar, for Rainmatter Health. "The approach that Evolved Foods is taking to tackle this with their innovative, protein-rich plant-based foods while being mindful of the carbon footprint really resonated with us.
