Bret really consequential day if you think about it for israel and what happens next. How far do you see this . First of all, very different than the iranian strike that we saw in april. Think about basically how that happened in April Iran did strike, first time they ever did it directly. But they did drones first, which was very much giving notice to everybody that this was getting ready to happen. Didnt really want any damage. Just wanted to send a signal. This time well over 150 ballistic missiles, no warning, only 12 minutes for them to get there. Iran wanted this to hurt. Lets be clear. They have been caught flat footed for a long time. They said these are their proxies, they said that they had nothing to do with it. But these are all mobsters. Whether its the houthis, whether its hamas, whether its hezbollah, whether its what is happening in syria or iraq. And the Head Mob Boss is iran. And iran is flatfooted and right now they are trying to play in any way that they can. But, dont make no mistake, they are not encouraged by. This this was reactionary and they are just trying to stop the bleeding. Bret have you dealt with the israelis a lot. You dealt with them here at the u. N. If you were to guess what they do next, what do you think it would be . Theyre not going to stop and they shouldnt stop. I think what you are seeing is, you know, its funny to see Jake Sullivan or even Joe Biden say oh, we were with israel the whole way. No, israel did this in spite of them. Israel was tired of them saying pull back, they were tired of saying do escalate. They were tired of everything else. They saw what hezbollah was getting ready to do and they knocked them out before they had a chance to do it. Now, the u. S. Is stepping up to be beside them but make no mistake, israel does not trust the u. S. Israel does not trust biden and harris. Because they have not been there. Can you definitively say thats not true and i know you endorsed the former president , can you definitively say that their policy would be better for the Middle East than a Biden Harris Policy . Blinken knows its not true. But harris and biden need to know its not true. They are the reason that this all happened from the very beginning going to afghanistan, but, if you look at it, they havent even been a good friend to israel. They have constantly lectured them. They have constantly told them what they can and cant do. They have done the same thing with ukraine, not letting ukraine use the missiles to go into russia. All of these things have led to distrust with our friends. And so, you look at the time during trump, there were no wars. There were no conflicts. And the reason is at least our allies knew where we stood. With biden and harris, they never know where we stand. You mentioned the April Attacks and before that there was a lot of warning from the administration with one word, take a listen. I have one word, dont. Dont. Dont, dont. Whats the message to iran . Dont. Israel may be now launching a limited operation into lebanon. Are you aware of that . Are you comfortable with their plans . Im more aware and im comfortable with them stopping. We should have a ceasefire now. Bret that was the message recently, since then, you know, all the donts, since that happened, the iranians launched that barrage on israel in april. What else did Joe Biden do, while he said dont to our, you know, to our allies on what they could and couldnt do and he said the words dont to iran, he lifted the sanctions on iran, he allowed the money to flow. He basically continued to dictate to our ally what is they could and couldnt do. Im glad israel did, im glad israel went forward and said enough with biden and harris, were going to protect ourselves because we Cant Count on them to help us do that. Bret last thing, politics. You have been critical some of the things he has said in the past. What would you tell him tonight . Keep your eye on the ball. Know who your audience is your audience is not the republican primary. We saw a bump obviously in Oil Prices. The market took a little dip. Longterm, what does that do for . Its hard to know because there was a bump up Inen European Crude directly tied to the Middle East. West text had a bump and then gave it back. Its been a weak oil market. We are producing here. We should be producing more but we are running 13 Million barrels a day. The saudis are sitting on a pile of oil reserves. They have been very judicious about handling it. I dont think they want to blow up Oil Prices or for that matter the Middle East. I mean, i have a thought. I think these gulf states, particularly the saudis, they are very pleased that israel is doing what its doing. They are very pleased that israel is taking out hezbollah and its leaders and hamas and its leaders. And iran may have lopped a bunch of weapons, i understand you, that bombs today. I dont think they have the staying power. I wish the united states was the strongest behind israel and this whole venture. They are going to come a time i dont know if you saw gerry Bakers Article in the Wall Street Journal today. Dead right. Said the same thing on the air there is going to come a time when literally the rest of the world is going to thank israel for preserving democracy and preserving freedom and eventually preserving peace in the Middle East. Bret lets turn to the u. S. And impact of this Port Workers strike and what it potentially means. Lets just say they dont get a deal. Doesnt sound like they are close. Right. Bret it takes a week, two weeks. What does that mean . If it goes on for a bunch of weeks, it will be very harmful. Very damaging to the economy. Its not going to be catastrophic. But, you could lose you could lose a half a point to a point of real g. D. P. If it goes on, lets say for a month, just for argument sake. These things are very hard to model and i have seen various Wall Streeters try to put pencil to paper on that. Bret they are being aggressive and some people coming after the longshoremen, The Union saying i will cripple you if you dont get to the table. Coming after the terrible, terrible hurricane helene, i mean, its an untimely strike. But these things always are. Look it, i think the ila is aiming too high. Okay . Way too high. The latest, 77 over six years, thats almost 13 a Year Increase in wages, plus various other Pension And Contribution items. I know the head of The Union makes a lot of money, on the other hand, the u. S. Maritime allies, who run this ports, they made 400 Billion in the last three years. Bret with a b because of inflation. B, in part because of inflation. In part because of the comeback from covid. That is as much i think its slightly more money than they made in their entire history, going back to the late 1950s. And, again, The Union is asking too much. Okay . But, remember, we have had 20 increase in the cost of living. In the last three and a halfplus years. Okay . That has hurt these working folks a lot. Real wages have fallen, this is throughout the economy. So, they are shooting for the sky. But who knows what the future Inflation Rate is going to be. Once you let that genie out of the box, you never very difficult to put it. In and the federal reserve had to raise interest Rates Sky high. Now they are slowly going to bring them back down. I can say, this I Cant blame the workers 100 percent. I read editorials, i have friends on wall street, oh, unions are bad, unions are bad. Yeah, but they got hosed in the last several years with respect to the cost of living. Beating wages and their families and their Kitchen Table so, theyre fighting. I expect them to fight. I dont think this is going to go on forever because at some point its bad politics for mr. Biden. Its bad politics for the workforce as well. I dont think it will go on forever. The issue of immigration and border overwhelmingly for the former president , economy it has gotten a little tighter but still an advantage for the former president. There you see abortion in arizona, it is roughly the same. That spread on immigration and the Economy And Abortion the other way. Now, there are some Silver Linings for Vice President harris, she does lead on issues outside of the top three. Healthcare, climate change, even the slight in bringing needed change. Democrats and republicans have positive views, largely of their respective candidates and their Running Mates; however, independence, thats when this is, independents have a more favorable view of minnesota governor Tim Walz, than they do of senator j. D. Vance. And thats a 7 point difference. Voters are just not as familiar with the Vice President ial nominees. And, obviously, they have a chance to change all of that. Open mics at cbs. So they are going to be able to go at each other, i this the question who goes low first. Bret we look at these polls, martha. Quinnipiac is out with a new poll. The former president hates quinnipiac usually. He really likes this one. This one is georgia up 6 and North Carolina up 2. Thought put that on the board. You see the swing in Swing States and its really tight. Martha these events they do lean into where vance is because its a strength argument. When you look at what is happening with the ports, when you look at helene, which san opportunity. People are we dont know where a lot of these people are at this point. They dont have Water Or Power all of that and Foreign Policy with what happened today, bret. We have heard almost nothing about Foreign Policy throughout the course of this election.
