Brian, i know the strikers feel like they have got leverage because, you know, companies like volkswagen, they Cant Bus in their cars from europe. They need ships. And those are the guys who offload them. We need bugs. Yeah. Absolutely. Good morning, guys, they do feel like they have leverage given the timing here about a month before the election. And obviously, right before the holiday shopping season, so they are definitely flexing that leverage. I want to tell you a little bit about where we are at. This is the red hook terminal. This is part of the New York of New York and jersey third largest port in the united states. As you can see people have been picketing this morning. They arrived here at midnight. One of the Union Heads here forecast international Longshoremans Association tells us they have been barred from speaking to the press. They are not allowed to speak to us. The only person who he is allowed to speak to us is the head of The Union, Harold Daggettt. So we wont be able to hear from them. We do know that the ila says that the maritime alliance, that is the shippers and the port companies, they say that their latest deal has fallen way short of their demands. The Alliance Offering Dock workers a 50 wage increase, boosting the top earners from 39 per hour to about 58 per hour. The dock Workers Union says no, it wants a 77 wage increase. Or 69 an hour. The dock Workers Union also says it wants guarantees of no automation or semi automation. They want none of it whatsoever. The man leading the charge as i said is a union boss, Harold Daggettt. Is he earning a whopping 728,000 a year for leading the international longshoremens union. Retailers are now pressuring the White House to get involved and to end this strike by invoking the tafthartley act. And in a statement, President Biden making clear thats not happening. Writing, quote collective bargaining is the best way for workers to get the pay and benefits they deserve. I have urged umax A Group of foreign owned carriers to come to the table and present a fair offer to the workers of the ila that assures they are paid appropriately in line with invaluable contributions. Guys, speaking to the Union Head here Off Camera, they did tell me that about 90 Workers Today will not be on the Picket Line and instead will be working to offload the cruise ships. They say they dont feel like that New Yorkers and the common folks should suffer because of this strike and that is why they are doing that and offloading these cruise Ships Today which will mean a lighter load in terms of the Picket Line that theyre having here in front of the red hook port. So, thats the latest here from brooklyn and i will say there are about 100,000 containers that are now stuck at the port and they are expecting about 35 ships to now be left idle. They will not be able to port. A lot of The Union members are democrats, a lot of them, however, Do Support Donald Trump. Do they realize how much it hurts Kamala Harris politically . You know, i got to tell you the quick Off Camera comments i have had so far speaking to The Union. I will say they are not talking from a macrolevel of politics. People here are thinking about their own personal financial situation. And they feel like, given what they did during the pandemic, and given the 20 inflation that were now experiencing year over year that they deserve. This and they will also point to the fact that the workers on the West Coast are already making 55 an Hour Plus and that they were successful in their negotiations with the Port Workers on the West Coast and so, they see that and they feel like here on on the East Coast d Gulf Coast they diseervet same. Ainsley brian, they said no to a 50 increase they want 80 . Is there any room for negotiation . Would they take 65 . Brian can you ask one . Brine brine that is the negotiation, they were offered 58 an hour, they want 69, could they meet in the middle . Maybe. If you listened to Harold Daggettt yesterday when he was speaking to our Lydia Hu there doesnt seem to be any room of negotiation right now. They dont feel like they want to budge. They have the leverage. There is no sign here that theyre going to relinquish that leverage. The last time there was a Port Strike here nationally, you are talking about 2002. I mean, when you look at the independent voter dials and just people if you are a reasonable person watching the debate, just trying to get content. Most of the country is split up. There is like 5 to 6 of independent voters who just want the facts to see where both sides stand. Vance clearly won that debate it wasnt even close. Ainsley refreshing to see two guys so polite to one another. Brian i liked it. Ainsley i did, too. J. D. Vance, i think you, talking about tim, that you want to solve this problem but i dont think kamala wants to. They were nice to each other. They were very polite. And i think that because they were so nice it toned down the rhetoric from the moderators. I thought the moderators came in a little hot in the beginning especially during the factcheck moments that were going to show you in a minute. They toned it down and sounded nicer. Didnt factcheck anymore. Didnt cut the mics. Steve they were very respectful. They started with a handshake. You know, it kind of was a throwback to debates of yes, sirrer year. Lawrence you mentioned the independent voter. There were a bunch of staff polls yesterday, cbs says vance won by 1. Cnn vance won by three did a snap poll, people found it a tie, 550 50 tie regarding independents. Thats why i bring it up because you mentioned them. 58 percent said walz won. And 42 percent said vance won. However, and awful lot of independents said i didnt watch. Thats a problem. Brian I Cant make them watch. I can ask them to. The good news is for jim gaffigan, he has a lot to work with this Saturday Night live. He plays Tim Walz. He has got 90 minutes to play with. Not just a few appearances. It should be interesting.
