Labour have scrapped the plan to create ulez style zones across the country after the deeply unpopular scheme arguably costing the uxbridge by election but nonetheless london mayor sadiq khan has vowed that he will continue to expand the caphaps will continue to expand the capitals ultra low emission zone but this is the really interesting bit. Environmentalist Group Extinction Rebellion and yes, them Extinction Rebellion criticised the ulez and if your plan to lower air pollution doesnt even have the support of eco loonies, then you really are in trouble. We are looking across the channel next to see what the French Police are up to because it certainly doesnt seem to be stopping Illegal Migrants from reaching the uk. The number of French Police patrolling beaches is down because the countrys rules about when they will get involved in stopping the boats feel arbitrary at best. Apparently theyre on holiday. Channel good evening. Now the latest round of absolute migrant madness will see Illegal Immigrants housed in Student Accommodation. Bear in mind that accommodation. Bear in mind that a leaked memo from the home Office Appears to say that they expect the channel migrant crisis to go on for about another five years. Well, weve used weve used used military bases. Weve used up hotels, weve used up social housing, new houses , new housing, new houses, new apartments. Now its students accommodation. I mean, at what point do you have a state mandated Asylum Seeker on your sofa this upcoming Academic Year will see some fee paying students have to be put up in hotels or hostels or told to find accommodation in a different city to where their university is , or indeed, in university is, or indeed, in some cases a different country to where their university is. To where their university is. Those students are saddling themselves with a lifetime of debt already massively disadvantaged by virtue of the fact that top universities want more foreign students so they can make more money. The lecturers are always on strike and all of this so that you can get a desmond tutu in underwater basket weaving from a former polytechnic. Anyway, there is very much a Student Housing crisis at the moment. There are also several hundred thousand homeless people. While there are homeless people. While there are hundreds of thousands of people who desperately need to flee violent partners, for example, there is no shortage of people who need urgently need accommodation. But yet again , accommodation. But yet again, everything goes out the window so we can house Illegal Immigrants. Ten unused students accommodation and former office sites are currently being considered, with each averaging around 500 places per site. The home office was previously granted permission to turn former students accommodation in stafford into a for home 481 Asylum Seekers at the start of 2023. The home office overcame resistance from the local council in coventry after making plans to house migrants in former students accommodation with a capacity for more than 100 people apart. Recently, 100 people apart. Recently, leicester, portsmouth , lincoln, leicester, portsmouth, lincoln, stoke on trent and huddersfield are also being considered. I are also being considered. I mean, of course they are at this rate every single town and city in the uk will have them , as in the uk will have them, as well as Migrant Hotels as well as well as social housing on top of legal immigration. Now of legal immigration. Now theyll be using the set of coronation street, emmerdale farm will just be a migrant commune , wont it . But commune, wont it . But seriously, how long is it before they say sorry , were just they say sorry, were just putting a tent in your front garden to house some channel migrants can we just imagine for a second if we devoted half as much time , attention and much time, attention and creativity towards housing our own needy citizens as we do to bending over backwards for Illegal Immigrants . Honestly, just look around and ask yourself, where does this end . But of course , i want to know but of course, i want to know your thoughts. Dont forget to let me know. Its the same email address that you would normally have for the main man. Moggie its male mug at gbnews. Com. Joining me now to discuss this is nick hillman, director of the think tank the Higher Education policy institute. Nick, look, thank very much. Do thank you very, very much. Do you students have right you think students have a right to feel a bit aggrieved if they are potentially being told to feel a bit aggrieved if they are pogoing ly being told to feel a bit aggrieved if they are pogoing ly ihave told to feel a bit aggrieved if they are pogoing ly ihave to start youre going to have to start your Academic Year in hotels or dare i say even renting dare i say it, even renting a place a different city . Et place in a different city . Et cetera. They find out, cetera. And then they find out, well, bending over well, we are bending over backwards put a Certain Group backwards to put a Certain Group of people in Student Accommodation. Accommodation. Well, look, i understand the thought behind your question, and i think they probably would sometimes aggrieved in sometimes feel aggrieved in those circumstances. But i think those circumstances. But i think whats actually happening is there are a few, only a few towns and cities where theres a surplus of Student Accommodation. You mentioned where they are huddersfield, coventry , lincoln, stoke, places coventry, lincoln, stoke, places like that more places have a shortage of Student Accommodation. Manchester, bristol york, glasgow, edinburgh. Theyve got they dont have anything like enough student beds and i dont think theyll find any landlords, any Student Accommodation providers in those cities willing to talk to the home office, especially as it could make those Companies Rather unpopular with students. If they look like theyre doing the home office as well. I wonder if it actually will. Nick you see, this is the thing, isnt it . Because the students will be in an incredibly difficult situation simultaneously holding out refugees. Whilst simultaneously holding out refugnot. Whilst simultaneously holding out refugnot. Liking whilst simultaneously holding out refugnot. Liking the whilst simultaneously holding out refugnot. Liking the fact hilst also not really liking the fact that have welcomed refugees that they have welcomed refugees into where theyre supposed to be living. Be living. Well, of course, lots of students from other students are from other countries , lots of students, countries, lots of students, particularly in nicer particularly in the nicer Student Accommodation blocks, are very often from other countries. So youre actually countries. So youre actually talking about very often two different groups of people from other countries. Look, i other countries. Look, i understand why the home office has its eye on Student Accommodation because theyre single rooms with lots of bathroom facilities , often quite bathroom facilities, often quite new. I can see why it works for the home office, but of course it is partly an example of Home Office Failure to process the numbers more speedily. I mean 100 it is. Theres no doubt about that. I mean, the ultimate reason why this is happening is because weve got so many people crossing the channel and of them are channel and so many of them are staying here for long because staying here for so long because were processing them or were not processing them or deporting whatever it is deporting them or whatever it is that we do with them. And were also allowing them to work, also not allowing them to work, which means theyve which therefore means theyve just squat just got to essentially squat somewhere. Completely. Just got to essentially squat somewithe completely. Just got to essentially squat somewithe fault completely. Just got to essentially squat somewithe fault of completely. Just got to essentially squat somewithe fault of the mpletely. Its not the fault of the universities. My concern would be what be though, that actually what the has done the home office has done previously just dangle previously is just dangle a massive full of cash in massive bag full of cash in front of people like holiday inns in front of variety of inns in front of a variety of different what would different places. And what would be doing now . Be stopping them doing this now . Meanwhile, saddle meanwhile, students who saddle themselves of themselves with a lifetime of debt times very debt for at times very questionable University Courses , will just end up paying and getting into debt and not even having anywhere to live. Well it is ironic because traditionally the home office has a rather bad , bad relationship with University Cities because they dont like all the International Students coming over and now theyre trying to hug University Towns and cities very close to solve a problem of their own making. Making. And there will be landlords, Big Companies that have knocked up big blocks of student residences in cities like stoke, where they were worried they werent going to get their money back on building those buildings and now the home office is coming along as almost a saviour for them. So somebody somewhere along the line will be making some money from this. Loads of people will be oh, loads of people will be making loads money out of it making loads of money out of it as well. And some of the as well. And if some of the deals are true, which got deals are true, which ive got no reason disbelieve, they no reason to disbelieve, they are. Is just hotel are. And this is just with hotel chains, way. They say, chains, by the way. They say, well, might well sack well, you might as well sack a load your staff so you dont load of your staff so you dont have to pay anything to do with that. Your security that. Well sort your security out with Companies Like serco. You have any of the you wont have any of the overheads we renovate overheads and we will renovate your hotel and when we your hotel as and when we eventually using this as an eventually stop using this as an asylum hangout. But look, Asylum Seeker hangout. But look, thank you very, very much, nick. Nick there, director of nick hillman there, director of the tank the higher the think tank the Higher Education policy institute. I mean, students will be disadvantaged of mean, students will be disa if antaged of mean, students will be disa if allaged of mean, students will be disa if all ofad of mean, students will be disa if all of this of mean, students will be disa if all of this goes of mean, students will be disa if all of this goes ahead. This if all of this goes ahead. But but i am also glad to be joined by my presenters friend for this evening. I sounds cute, doesnt it . Its nigel nelson. Nigel im just moving on specifically from the students side of it there. We are bending over backwards for channel migrants. Weve got military bases. We might at some point have a if we can render it have a barge if we can render it fit for habitation. We are fit for human habitation. We are now looking at Student Accommodation. We know that accommodation. We know that weve got social housing, we know all of this know weve got all of this stuff. Can you imagine for one second if we applied the of second if we applied the kind of creativity and desperation towards illegal towards housing Illegal Immigrants we do to housing immigrants as we do to housing the people who weve already got homeless in this country . Well, i think we should be building houses. Theres building more houses. Theres no question yes, we question about that. And yes, we should be redoubling our efforts to end people can to that end so people can actually home. I mean, actually have a home. I mean, where where are with where are we where we are with the with the cross channel migrants , the i think the bibby migrants, the i think the bibby stockholm is a complete gimmick. I dont think that its it certainly wont be a deterrent. Certainly wont be a deterrent. Theidea certainly wont be a deterrent. The idea of housing them in Student Accommodation. Mean, Student Accommodation. I mean, the student the idea is former Student Accommodation. So it would be accommodation. So it would be wrong to truck a student out to put a migrant in. So if these places are available, then we use them. The whole issue is that what were not doing is cutting the backlog to stop this happening. So were talking about 172,000 backlog. That compares to 19,000 back in 2010. And if we got if we brought more cases , workers in to process cases, workers in to process them and did it much quicker , them and did it much quicker, that would bring your hotel bill down. And also negate the need for any other accommodation because youd actually be able to shift them out of the country or they could stay in the country and work and find their own accommodation. I think when it comes to the backlog, one of the things that i find just incredibly hard to believe is that we cannot process people quicker and we cannot for all of the money weve given £500 million to the french to do very little as far as i can gather, very little. That amount of money could have been spent employing people to plough through our own backlog, could that could it not . And that just seems idiotic. Well, i certainly think they should have employed more people. Promised to. People. Rishi sunak promised to. He would be 2500 he said that there would be 2500 caseworkers there, arent there are are about half are nearly there are about half that. Need a lot more people that. You need a lot more people to do it. So if you look to go and do it. So if you look at countries , for at other countries, for instance, austria has more instance, that austria has more mind agents coming in than Asylum Seekers coming in than we do, they process them with three months, within three months, germany does it in a third of the time that we do france does it in in half the time we do so. In fact , all these things are in fact, all these things are possible because other countries are doing it. No, i am inclined to agree with you. I think the biggest thing for me specifically about the accommodation is that if we really had a desire to elevate people in this country who are in need here at the moment and we could do it and before we were kind of told, oh, we couldnt we couldnt have the space or the resources to house everyone whos homeless at the moment or everyone whos fleeing a partner whos being violent towards them, or anyone whos got a couple of children who desperately need somewhere a roof over their head in winter, we were kind of told to led believe that that wasnt really possible. And now we are finding possible. And now we are finding out that it is possible because were doing it for people whove just got here illegally. Im not sure the bibby yeah, im not sure the bibby stockholm instance, would be stockholm for instance, would be very a family kids very good for a family with kids or that. The kind or Something Like that. The kind of accommodation where this accommodation, this is what im talking know, this, talking about, you know, this, this, this is not this, this, this, this is not luxury is luxury accommodation, this is very basic. Em gm em very basic. Is this is student well, this is this is Student Accommodation. So students used to pay money, lot of money to to pay money, a lot of money to live in there. Yeah, right. So it for human habitation it is fit for human habitation and could be lived. And it could be lived. Question its the question is why its former. Mean, obviously there former. I mean, obviously there are places where the students are places where the students are now, one will are now, which one assumes will be better accommodation than they enjoyed there. So the likelihood of accommodation likelihood of this accommodation is pretty basic is it would be pretty basic and weve do something. I weve got to do something. I mean, do appreciate in the mean, i do appreciate in the short term to find short term we need to find somewhere to put people who are coming across because were not going to stop the boats. Okay. All fair enough. Okay. All right. Fair enough. Nigel, you very, very nigel, thank you very, very much. Returning this much. Well be returning to this topic, a slightly topic, but from a slightly different a little bit different angle a little bit later in the well be later on in the show, well be focusing explicitly really on what the french are getting up to there, to and whats happening there, because a big blame because there was a big blame game on. I think wasnt game going on. I think wasnt there, when sadly, those people died channel. Britain died in the channel. And britain just to it in just seemed to cop it in situations that. Non stop. Situations like that. Non stop. Basically that basically im of the view that its all our fault all the its not all our fault all the time and sometimes just sometimes youve got have sometimes youve got to have a look the french are look at what the french are doing. Yeah. But also is there an personal an element of personal responsibility when people get into the channel responsibility when people get int tannoy this is the final call for all Long Distance lovers. Im flying round the world to marry a man that ive never met. How do i know that youre even the person you say you are . Please fasten your seatbelts. Maybe were not actually supposed to be in this relationship. As we expect turbulence ahead. Can you not see my insides breaking . How far would you go for love . Brand new 90 day fiance uk, available to stream only on discovery . Watch at no extra cost. Say, get discovery into your voice remote to activate. Youre listening to gb news radio. Radio. Well, welcome back. I am still not jacob rees mogg, but im doing my best impression of him. This is state of the nation. Youve been getting in touch with some of your thoughts. Im going go to thoughts. Im going to go to those right now. Jills been in touch. Thank you very much, jill. She says safe routes for asylum will never stop the boats. Spoke to boats. In fact, jill, i spoke to somebody on today whos somebody earlier on today whos an in border force. They an expert in border force. They said exactly the same thing because dont actually because people dont actually want processed legal want to be processed the legal way involve way because that might involve us who they are us finding out who they are and where theyre is where theyre from. It is actually in cases, more actually in some cases, more beneficial them to throw beneficial for them to throw their documents in the channel and come knowing that and then come here knowing that they probably be allowed they will probably be allowed to stay theyre one stay whilst theyre here. One more, margaret the police more, margaret says the police should locks should install roadblock locks on coastal on approaches to the coastal camps order to search camps in order to search vehicles slash vehicles for the boats slash engines, we to remove the engines, we need to remove the tools people smuggling. There tools of people smuggling. There should of should be better checking of every and vehicle at every container and vehicle at eu margaret is of eu customs. Margaret is one of the worlds mysteries to the worlds great mysteries to me are able to send me that we are able to send people to moon, send people people to the moon, send people to space, all of to space, do all sorts of fabulous feats human fabulous feats of human engineering. What we seem engineering. But what we seem categorically incapable of doing is tens of thousands of is stopping tens of thousands of quite large boats. The words small boats crisis is now quite disingenuous , isnt it . Quite disingenuous, isnt it . Quite large boats from making their way across an entire continent and to the beaches of calais, where someone attaches an engine on them, stacks it full of people and pushes them into the channel . I have no idea how it was beyond the wit of man to be able to actually, quite literally, physically stop the boats. But moving on, sir keir starmer has ditched the plan to roll out ulez style zones across the uk. Apparently instead, labour stressed that clean air zones are a tory government policy and will look for other ways to reduce air pollution, which wont put pressure on hardworking families. This is a really fascinating twist in the old net zero trial. I suppose you could say, with each party trying to outdo each other and row back a bit on what was originally a full frontal agenda. Labour leader seems agenda. The labour leader seems to have heard the peoples plight and they dont want to pay plight and they dont want to pay £12. 50 a day just to get to work, drop the kids off at school. But london mayor sadiq khan has committed big time to pressing ahead with the expansion of the capitals ultra low emission zones next month. Low emission zones next month. Heres another weird twist the story i never thought i would read. Extinction rebellion read. Extinction rebellion founder. Read. Extinction rebellion founder. Yeah. Extinction rebellion founder roger hallam spoke out against mr khans plan. He called it intrusive and regressive. Now, i dont regressive. Now, i dont normally agree with Extinction Rebellion, as you can imagine, but in this case i think they are bang on the money expanding ulez will hit britains poorest hardest. Thats why he said. And whats fair about that . He also called it and again, this is language that you very easily could hear. Nigel farage saying, couldnt you . He says that it was a kind of metropol , an uber was a kind of metropol, an uber liberal, elitist view. Ulez which i mean, i believe is true. I just didnt really think i would hear him saying that. Joining me now is environmentalist and friend of the show is tom burke. Tom, thank you very, very much. Were you as shocked as was to hear you as shocked as i was to hear the of extinction the founder of Extinction Rebellion that he doesnt rebellion saying that he doesnt really like ulez . Well patrick, just to be exactly correct about what we heard was what the daily mail said hed said and im always pretty cautious when i read the daily mail. I dont actually know what. Well, to my knowledge, he hasnt sued them yet. Tom, to be fair. So lets assume lets assume he has said it and i will stand corrected if he takes them to court. No, no. But ive just always said a word of caution. When you listen to the daily mail. But certainly would be wrong to certainly it would be wrong to say that people that somehow can turn for air pollution is a middle class preoccupation. You middle class preoccupation. You know, there are about 4000 people in london who are have premature death because of air pollution. Every year. And some of them may indeed be urban, middle class and even left wing. But an awful lot of them are just going to be ordinary people as well. Just ask about about that figure, that figure of about 4000 people having premature deaths, because i was reading a report, committee on report, the committee on the medical of pollution, medical effects of pollution, which whilst that is which said that whilst that is technically true, that 4000 people might have premature deaths due to air pollution in london, they reckon that that death is premature. By around 51 death is premature. By around 51 to 65 hours per person and potentially , yeah, in extreme potentially, yeah, in extreme situations you might have died three days earlier than you eventually would. So its not its not quite the total catastrophe, is it . So sorry. Catastrophe, is it . So sorry. I think youre just playing with the numbers, patrick. I dont think it very matters very much how how long you can you can do those things with the numbers. Anybody whose death is caused pollution is caused early by air pollution is right to be pretty cross about it. And if you remember what caused this story to become a really in fact, roger hallam was one of the people who campaigned for attacking air pollution in london before he was involved in Extinction Rebellion. And the reason for that was because, as the coroner declared, when that young girl ella, died in in 2013, air pollution was the cause of her death. And thats cause of her death. And thats the thing i think that really sticks with in peoples minds and quite correctly so it really matters is that you do something about air pollution. And by the way, when you were introducing this piece , you connected air this piece, you connected air pollution issues with net zero. Now these are completely separate issues. Theres no unless you think that the only people who care about a way, a way, a way i would connect, a way, a way i would connect, a way i would connect them is the fact that people are going to end up paying for them. And do you think that do you not think that it is going to unequivocally poorest in unequivocally hit the poorest in society . Hardest, to society . The hardest, having to pay society . The hardest, having to pay 50 a day to take your pay £12, 50 a day to take your car off your drive . You cant necessarily new one . I necessarily get a new one . I mean, i think, is what he mean, that i think, is what he was getting at, isnt it . Which even leader extinction even the leader of Extinction Rebellion saying rebellion is now saying basically, people, the rebellion is now saying basi suffer most from air pollution and overwhelming body and theres an overwhelming body of the of evidence that shows the people the price of us people who pay the price of us not problems. So not dealing with problems. So the real issue is to make the real issue is how to make sure people who can afford sure that people who can afford it thats exactly why it pay. And thats exactly why theres scrappage scheme to it pay. And thats exactly why therethose scrappage scheme to it pay. And thats exactly why therethose peopleige scheme to it pay. And thats exactly why therethose people who cheme to it pay. And thats exactly why therethose people who cant; to help those people who cant afford its in 10 of afford it. Its only 1 in 10 of the in uxbridge were the cars in uxbridge were affected it. Im not sure affected by it. So im not sure that the idea that somehow, somehow or other than in the in the of editor of the the mind of the editor of the daily its interesting daily mail, its interesting that but its interesting. This this 1 in 10 again, this this 1 in 10 figure. Right. Because it was actually the high court actually heard in the high court by councillors they by five councillors and they said this is for said they said this is for Bexley Bromley , harrow Bexley Bromley, harrow and hillingdon, surrey hillingdon, along with Surrey County massively county council. They massively contested this 1 in 10 figure and so they actually dont understand where that figure has come from and that its disinformation. They said. And well , well, calling it and well, well, calling it disinformation mean they said they couldnt find any proof for it. This is the thing that it was built on this it was built on this claim. Right. That 90 because it makes it sound palatable, doesnt it . 90 of you wont be affected by it. And they said, well, have you they said, well, where have you got and they couldnt got that from . And they couldnt find out. It in the newspapers, i read it in the newspapers, too. So if the newspapers presenting things that are wrong, on the wrong, then shame on the newspapers that. What newspapers for doing that. What is the case is it is definitely the case is it costs about the nhs in london about a year. About £600 million a year. Thats governments official figures to deal with the figures on that to deal with the consequences of air pollution. So its not only that people, poor people have to pay a bit and should get some help with that, but actually when theyre the people who most need the services of the nhs that cant provide because were provide them because were spending dealing with provide them because were spe consequences dealing with provide them because were spe consequences of dealing with provide them because were spe consequences of people with provide them because were spe consequences of people who the consequences of people who cant pay the ulez fee cant afford to pay the ulez fee driving their cars around in london. I mean , another argument london. I mean, another argument would be that if people know that there is an ultra low emission zone and they cant afford it, they actually afford it, what they actually will drive around and will do is drive around it and therefore for a longer therefore drive for a longer penod therefore drive for a longer period time, causing more pollution. Well, maybe mean, i dont know. Thats the kind of thing people say. But you know, most of us are too busy in our lives to take an extra line to avoid paying to take an extra line to avoid paying £12. Much more importantly is to think, why are we not supporting people . We not supporting those people . And some people for and there are some people for whom really whom this will be really difficult. Why are we not supporting directly with supporting them directly with the scrappage scheme . And my understand is thats understand thing is thats available available available and has been available since january year. Do you since january this year. Do you think should have think we should just have a massive referendum on this . No. Why not . Because you no. Why not . Because you might not like the result. Because. Well, we might. Well lets have a referendum. We shall have gb news on the air. I dont think you solve complicated, difficult issues. People with it affects fewer people with respect , think. Respect, i think. I think, you what . I think, you know what . I would be the first person to say if was costing people if gb news was costing people £12. 50 day and was going to £12. 50 a day and it was going to tell them to do sorts of tell them to do all sorts of different changes, i would tell them to do all sorts of difthe1t changes, i would tell them to do all sorts of difthe first changes, i would tell them to do all sorts of difthe first in hanges, i would tell them to do all sorts of difthe first in line ies, i would tell them to do all sorts of difthe first in line to i would tell them to do all sorts of difthe first in line to say, uld tell them to do all sorts of difthe first in line to say, you be the first in line to say, you know what . Its the kind of thing have thing we should have a referendum on, right . But its not. But i tell you what, the ulez might. So should we have a referendum on that . No, shouldnt have no, we shouldnt have a referendum. Its not the to referendum. Its not the way to deal are deal with issues that are difficult complex and difficult and complex and require trade offs. Require lots of trade offs. Youre to have youre not going to have a referendum that decides which of the 30,000 a year that the 30,000 people a year that in this country premature this country are premature deaths should deaths from air pollution should die. I think you choose die. I dont think you choose the sort these issues. I do think have politics, think we should have politics, which a bit less as which are a bit a bit less as you like , how can i put it a bit you like, how can i put it a bit less considering the evidence and a bit a bit less focussed on the headlines and appeasing the headunes the headlines and appeasing the headlines and more and actually doing the job that people need done the politicians. Done by the politicians. Right, tom, thank you all right, tom, thank you very much. Always pleasure. Very much. Always a pleasure. Tom there. Keen tom burke there. Keen environmentalist the environmentalist to say the least. You very, least. Right. Thank you very, very much. We did get in touch with Extinction Rebellion and they comment at they did not wish to comment at all. Well, coming up, are all. Oh, well, coming up, are the french being laissez faire about the illegal Channel Crossings plus, the journalist who scooped an exclusive interview with Robert F Kennedy jr daphne barak will join me later. And i will be asking her about the latest startling revelations allegedly in terms of barack obama. Youre not of barack obama. Youre not going to want to miss that. Going to want to miss that. Looks like things are heating up, boxt boilers, proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Of weather on. Gb news. Hi there. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office. With the gb news forecast rain today, clearing overnight. A few showers following, but many places will be fine during tuesday as low pressure moves into the north sea, taking its weather fronts with it. However, one occluded feature is just providing some additional rainfall to the east of england through the night. Some damp weather continuing here. Eventually it becomes light to moderate rain showers across western areas, drier towards the southeast with some clear spells. But wherever you are , spells. But wherever you are, its not going to be a cold night. Its 12 to 14 celsius generally. And it will be a bright start to tuesday , bright start to tuesday, certainly across southern areas compared with monday. Plenty of compared with monday. Plenty of sunshine around still the remnants of the cloud and rain clearing the north east of clearing from the north east of england, scotland england, southeast Scotland First thing. But by mid morning, thats all gone. And then the showers the west tend to showers in the west tend to transfer eastwards through the day. The heaviest downpours will be across the central belt and the southern uplands. But elsewhere, actually, the showers becoming more scattered into the afternoon. A better chance of some sunshine in the south. And with light winds feeling much more. But then start more pleasant. But then we start off wednesday a fog off wednesday with a few fog patches the and the patches in the south and the west and lot of cloud for west and a lot of cloud for scotland and northeast england and further showers develop. But most showers will be in most of these showers will be in the north, especially for scotland and towards the scotland and drier towards the south. And this drying trend south. And this drying up trend continues into thursday and the start of friday with rising temperatures. Temperatures. Looks like things are heating up. Boxed boilers proud sponsors up. Boxed boilers proud sponsors of weather on. Listening to gb news. Radio welcome back. I remain welcome back. I remain Patrick Christys and youve been getting in touch with your thoughts. Lets have a little ganden thoughts. Lets have a little gander, shall we . Stephen says this is on ulez, the chat that we had before the head of Extinction Rebellion has come out and basically said that ulez is preserve of middle class, is the preserve of middle class, well to do, sopping, wet so and sos they should be so and sos and they should be cancelled. Paraphrasing. Cancelled. So im paraphrasing. Dont hallam. Dont sue me. Roger hallam. Stephen , as was said last stephen says, as was said last year by a man in burnley, here we go. When the wind blows, the we go. When the wind blows, the clean goes ulez should clean air goes so ulez should depend on wind speed and direction and free over certain wind speeds. Youre getting very technical, stephen, very technical. Says. How about technical. David says. How about all people pushed out of all the people pushed out of cars the underground cars onto the underground system . Pollution is system . The air pollution is even down on the even worse down on the underground. I will never underground. David i will never forget my first ever working day in london. I was working overnight. Id only been to overnight. Id only been to london a couple of times before and once was just to feed the pigeons in Trafalgar Square when i young, remarkably i was young, remarkably uncultured, came and uncultured, but i came down and i the central line i got on the central line overnight and got off the overnight and then i got off the central line and blew my nose central line and i blew my nose and stuff came out. The and black stuff came out. The pollution on the underground is absolutely vile. But on that absolutely vile. But on that note, ministers are getting increasingly with increasingly frustrated with france , who appear to be washing france, who appear to be washing their hands of carrying their hands of boats carrying illegal once they Illegal Immigrants once they leave shores. On saturday, leave their shores. On saturday, a boat sinking off the french coast saw six people die and at least 58 being rescued. The first french lifeboat reportedly reached the incident 15 minutes after the rnli despite, of course, just being a few miles off their own coast. Now, as a rule , the french refused to rule, the french refused to intervene with boats crossing the channel unless the vessel is in distress. And they think that those on board are likely to cooperate. It is also worth cooperate. It is also worth saying that the human traffickers people on traffickers tell the people on those not on a those boats to not get on a french boat case they end up french boat in case they end up back there we go. Back in france. So there we go. But the french are said to be intercepting just over half of the attempted crossings with the number Police Officers number of Police Officers patrolling dropping patrolling the beaches, dropping by a fifth this month. Why . Well because theres a high number of them on annual leave. Of course, it is a at least theyre not on strike. But right when we need them most. Right. When we need them most. Right. When we need the most stubborn, nonsensical and time. And operating on their own time. Is most french thing is this the most french thing youve ever heard . Im joined now by journalist and author of the a nation on the the book france a nation on the verge a nervous breakdown is verge of a nervous breakdown is jonathan miller. Jonathan, good stuff. Look, the french to stuff. Look, are the french to blame Migrant Deaths blame for Migrant Deaths in the channel well, patrick, good evening. And just a five second interlude to defend the daily mail, which is very scrupulous and checks facts very carefully. Are the facts very carefully. Are the french the french really have put inspector clouseau , i think, put inspector clouseau, i think, in charge of their efforts to stop the migration off the french coast. I know several people in the French Police and they tell me that the efforts are lackadaisical to say the least. A couple of years ago, least. A couple of years ago, some gendarme took it upon themselves to slice open the rubber boats with box cutters. And they were told to stop because the boats are private property. Theyre really turning a blind eye to a kind of uber Service Across the channel while taking millions and millions and millions of pounds from britain. Is it entirely the fault of the french . Well, you can certainly ask why these trafficking gangs have been allowed to continue essentially unhindered. And it must be known unhindered. And it must be known who these people are. The transport of these rubber boats involves large lorries , yet the involves large lorries, yet the people responsible who are making millions and millions apparently seem to be untouched. But on the other hand, the french and the other. The final point on the french side is the french are frankly quite happy to see these people leave of course, they are. They they they are you know, they are a burden on on the french state. They create law and order problems. Create law and order problems. In france, voters dont like it. And so the more they can get to england, i mean and they also they also dont treat them well. I mean, we could not we simply could not get away with in this country having a series of camps on our coastline where people are living in squalid. Well, this is just complete squalor and frankly, if you were an afghan or a syrian or somebody from sub Saharan Africa and you were housed in some camp that had no running water, no sanitation, no medical care to speak of, oh, id swim across , speak of, oh, id swim across, you know, youd probably swim across if you could. And of course, the british have to you have to say the british bear a great deal of responsibility because britain was extremely welcoming to these people. The uber sets off from from the cote dopale , which is from the cote dopale, which is the sandy beaches near calais. And are met halfway through the channel by the Royal National lifeboat institution, which ferries them to england, where theyre given accommodation and apparently cell phones and pocket money and an and housed in four star hotels and it is the bright lights in the big city. And its not a bad deal for them. Well and its on offer now this is the thing you know its all there. If you can make it here, then it is yours. Jonathan, just quickly, are there processing centres in france . You know, is there is there an asylum there any way that an Asylum Seeker can actually be genuinely just go and claim asylum in france . My point being is that they dont flee. They dont need to flee. Well, there are. And you can you can claim asylum in france. But i have say, but the french, i have to say, you know, while the British Press is full of this story, the last few days since this incident in which these unfortunate migrants drowned, this is not really as major a preoccupy in the french media as it is in the british media. The french have got their own problems with with immigration and with and with immigrants and the families of immigrants who have caused a great deal of great number of problems in france, where we had recent riots, an and, of course, the french are obsessed with the problem um that if you look across the Mediterranean Region you have africa and in africa there are a million poor people , many of whom would like to come to france, and theyre very concerned about stopping the boats from landing on the cote dazur. So its a lose lose situation. It is indeed. Look thank you very, very much. I would love to talk to you again at more length very, very soon. But were bang out of time. Any time. Im always here for you, patrick. Take care. Like his ghost haunted us for a second, but hes here. Thank very hes back here. Thank you very much, jonathan who is, much, jonathan miller, who is, of course, the author of the book france nation on the book france a nation on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Very quickly now, im joined by my this my presenters friend this evening, nigel, my presenters friend this eveniryou nigel, my presenters friend this eveniryou much. Nigel, my presenters friend this eveniryou much. And|el, my presenters friend this eveniryou much. And just thank you very much. And just what heard there, which is what you heard there, which is that essentially french that essentially the French Police being to police are basically being to told wave it through way. Told wave it through in a way. Dont think they are. Well, i dont think they are. I dont think the evidence is there. Are whole there. I mean, there are a whole host of problems that we ought to appreciate from the french end. Miles of end. One is 100 miles of coastline. You a coastline. And if you have a look at its very look at that, its very difficult to police all of that. Now, like to send border now, wed like to send Border Force Border force staff onto the french coast to help do it. The french are worried about their sovereignty on that as they have every right to how we feel about it. How would feel feel about it. How would we feel about gendarmes wandering along brighton instance . So brighton beach, for instance . So but when it comes to jonathan, was mentioning asylum applications and yes , you can applications and yes, you can you can claim asylum in france , you can claim asylum in france, 137,000 people claimed claim asylum last year, about 50 got through. The british figure was through. The british figure was 89,000. Yeah, but whats the size of france . Well , the thing is, i would well, the thing is, i would argue theyve not got a bigger problem because theyve got a much bigger country. Theyve got a bigger country, but same a bigger country, but the same size population. A bigger country, but the same sizegreat. Ation. Great. Great. Thats brilliant. Got thats brilliant. Theyve got loads they could take loads of room. They could take them all. Weve found the answer. The answer just hows answer. The answer is just hows them in france . Them all in france . Do think just actually i do think its just actually a having a, you know, a matter of having a, you know, there forest over there. Yeah. Would youd like to go that direction . So it might need a bit more than that. What it comes down to, whether the french are doing enough about stopping the boats coming across the policy follows the french naval policy follows maritime law, which says they dont unless, dont interfere unless, as youve boats in youve said, a boats in distress or theyre asked for help. Lovely stuff, nigel. Thank you its been you very, very much. Its been an pleasure have an absolute pleasure to have you on. Now up, will rfk on. Now coming up, will rfk junior next us president . Junior be the next us president . Im to going be joined by renowned daphne barak renowned journalist daphne barak to the kennedys to talk about the kennedys political but not just political future. But not just that, shocking rumours that, some shocking rumours about barack obama cant be true, surely . Find out okay. Well, look, when it comes to american royalty, the kennedy dynasty is one of the first names that comes to mind. And the familys tragic history, political figurehead to the. And donald points the president ial hopeful spoke about life and political ambition in a new interview with the wonderful daphne barak, whos aired exclusively on gb news yesterday. Take a look. Yesterday. Take a look. No, i think all of it everybody in my family is aware of the risk. But you know, i think , you know, life is filled think, you know, life is filled with risks. So and i think ones with risks. So and i think ones cheryl was convinced that that there was a path to victory and that i think she felt like, you know, because i have a passion to do this , to solve some of to do this, to solve some of these problems for our country. And im in a unique position to be able to do that. That she gave me the green light. Well, fascinating stuff. I am very pleased to say that daphne joins me right now. Daphne joins me right now. Daphne, thank you so, so much for coming in, for taking the time. I mean, with his familys history, i dont think id be going into politics. Its remarkable. Is he safe, do you think . Thats a very good question , thats a very good question, patrick, because ive been friends of the kennedys since i was 20. And i mean, of course , was 20. And i mean, of course, if you talk about kennedy, the first two words come to you assassination of jfk , assassination of jfk, assassination of jfk, assassination of jfk, assassination of rfk, and he asked for secret service protection. I remember when i was very young, i interviewed Jesse Jackson when he was a president ial candidate. There was lots of secret service. So was lots of secret service. So nobody actually doubted it. And if you remember patrick, they they law change after his father was assassinated and robert Robert F Kennedy because before of course, incumbent president s have secret service. So it was the first time a candidate was assassinated. So to deprive his son just because hes a running against biden. So the biden against biden. So the Biden Administration to deprive his son from secret service. Its son from secret service. Its how do we say it nicely. Not classy. Classy. Well, its not classy. No. I mean, essentially opening another man up to a great life threatening risk so that he doesnt run against you. Its the kind of thing we might have seen the clintons do. But there we go. And so what do you think his chances are . I mean, he revealed a lot himself in revealed a lot about himself in this interview with you. Addiction issues , for example. Addiction issues, for example. And people quite like and actually people quite like that. I think it makes him in a way, quite normal. Way, sound quite normal. I think he it was the first person final interview. He gave and i think its im getting lots of responses that made him very relatable. He is the most likeable candidate so far. I think his past for victory would be easy if we didnt have the rnc and dnc , the two parties in rnc and dnc, the two parties in america. And by the way, most of america. And by the way, most of them much, much millions are coming to him from conservatives and lots of support from conservative and republican. So conservative and republican. So the dnc will try is trying to block him. They do have a big problem to block him because kamala harris, the Vice President , kamala harris, the Vice President , is a no no. Kamala harris, the Vice President , is a no no. Exactly president , is a no no. Exactly oh, grief and no. Nobody. I oh, grief and no. Nobody. I mean, even the dnc knows that there was a problem there. So Bobby Kennedy getting all these support, celebrities, millions of dollars and huge attention if as they would try to block Bobby Kennedy. Hes amazing. As they would try to block Bobby Kennedy. Hes amazing. Using growing voters would not vote for joe biden. They would vote for joe biden. They would vote for donald trump and donald trump does. Donald trump does support Bobby Kennedy. Really . Yeah. Thats a really fascinating permutation to this. Now i wanted to ask you, ill get you to expand on this. Ill get you to expand on this. Ill get you to explain to our viewers and our listeners something about eric clapton. So, okay, so celebrity is, as you know, a very important in american elections. And some of them do shy away to support candidates because they dont want. So i found myself after want. So i found myself after i finished the interview with bobby, it was in my friends, by the way, the beautiful scenery seats. Lovely. Its a billionaire place. A friend of ours. And we had a vip reception after it and suddenly somebody knocking on my shoulder and its oliver stone. I mean, you know, oliver stone. I mean, you know, it doesnt happen every day. I did interview him in the past, but he was there. Woody harrelson just said he was supporting bobby. Doesnt happen a lister and i have to break it here that eric clapton which i have interviewed eric and his and lori del santo, the mother of the four years old conor, who died tragically. It was a huge special. Eric is very shy. Eric special. Eric is very shy. Eric is recluse. Eric doesnt go to places. Eric clapton , guys is places. Eric clapton, guys is coming to Bobby Kennedy vip event at september 18th and hes going to perform. Going to perform. Really . Really . Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. Well, i tell you what, that is a scoop that youve got right here. Just very quickly, whilst ive got you. I dont youve dont know if youve had a chance to digest this yet, but there was an interesting article. The article. Ill just read the headune article. Ill just read the headline ill read the headline of it. Ill read the headune headline of it. Ill read the headline of it. Ill read the headline of it. Ill read the headline of it about barack obama. Apparently a gay sex fantasy confession in fantasy confession revealed in an his ex. An unredacted letter to his ex. Okay i actually read okay. So i actually read about it like you. I dont know about it like you. I dont know what to make about it. Barack obama , one thing i know, he has obama, one thing i know, he has been very likeable. I supported Hillary Clinton at the time. I hosted her at my for home a fundraiser the moment barack obama invited me, i told her, hillary, its over. He has what you dont have. So barack obama is entitled to say anything. People would like him as Bobby Kennedy is. You have it or not. All right. Look, daphne, thank you very, very much. Daphne, you out there, i could have spoken to you but were about you all night, but were about out time. Dan wootton. Youve out of time. Dan wootton. Youve got a few seconds. Whats coming up . Legend, christys. Great have you. Brilliant great to have you. Brilliant scoop there, isnt eric scoop there, isnt it . Eric clapton in f kennedy clapton back in Robert F Kennedy jr. Certainly be better jr. He would certainly be better than lots on than biden. Weve got lots on the tonight. Kelvin the way tonight. Kelvin mackenzie, Lady Colin Campbell and phil dampier. Neil oliver and phil dampier. Neil oliver and the superstar panel. Oh, fantastic. Look, stay tuned because dan wootton will be lighting up your screens for the next two hours. Thank you very much, everybody whos been watching and listening, i will be back with you tomorrow. Take easy. You tomorrow. Take it easy.
