Quilts of Valor Ceremony The Wayne County Quilts of Valor and Fairfield National Bank will be holding a Quilts of Valor Ceremony on Sunday, November 13th @ 2 pm. The ceremony will take place at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Approximately 50 Wayne County veterans will be recognized for their service. Public is invited and encouraged to attend to recognize these Veterans for their service. For those unable to attend, WFIW will be streaming the ceremony live on our website at wfiwradio.com. To view the ceremony, visit our website, click on the sports tab at the top of the page, and select videos from the drop-down menu. ### Wayne County Board The Wayne County Board met Thursday night for their regular monthly meeting. This was the last meeting for several members who are going off the board at the end of November. County Highway Engineer Dennis Seidel provided an update on the 161 & Enterprise Rd. project. He stated that the construction portion of the project was complete and they are waiting on some electrical components to finish the project. The components have been on backorder, but should arrive next week. The board passed the 2023 budget and levy but not without some questions regarding the County Supervisor of Assessments portion of the budget. A lengthy discussion ensued about the numbers, but in the end the budget passed with 2 no votes from Bill Bruce and Roy Estheimer. The levy was approved with Roy Estheimer abstaining. Bryan Williams from CSI Insurance updated the board on the blanket insurance policy for the county. He stated the premium for 2023 will be $311,568. The 2022 premium was $276,207. The board unanimously approved the renewal. County Clerk Lizann Woodrow advised the board that voter turnout for the county was an impressive 70%. She further said that no issues were encountered and the entire process went very smoothly. She was very appreciative of her staff and the numerous Election Judges. In Committee Reports: The Building & Grounds Committee is addressing the courthouse clock tower, which needs painting/siding. The Animal Control; Committee reported that construction has begun on the addition to the shelter and the AC has been installed. In routine appointments:Matt Vaughn has requested that the following appointments to drainage districts for 3 year terms be made. Big Mound Drainage- Bill Book, Elm River Drainage- Richard Blanton, Golden Gate Drainage- Charles Schupe , Leech/Grover Drainage- Scott Dozier , Woods Drainage- Craig Williams. Board Member Darrell Hargrave and Fairfield resident Carrie Hambert were appointed to the So. Il. Tourism Board. ### Gamma Upsilon Fantasy Auction The Gamma Upsilon Fantasy Auction will be held on Saturday, November 12th at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield. Auction starts at 10:00 a.m. Linda Spicer will be the Auctioneer. Items to be auctioned include: homemade food items, crafts, and more. The money raised will be used for grants to support early educators (teachers with less than 5 years experience) to help in their classroom. Refreshments will be served and the community is invited to come and enjoy the day. ### Grayville City Council The Grayville City Council will meet in regular session on Monday, November 14 at 7:00 pm in City Hall. In old business the council will discuss the Water Filtration Plant, ISP Health and Welfare Fund Demand for Payment Audit 2016-2022, Security Camera System Quotes, and a request to vacate an alley in Martin's Addition. The council will also hear the 2nd reading of Ordinances 933 and 934. In new business items include Application to Solicit Donations – Grayville Ministerial Association, Christmas Parade Resolution, Next Link Access Lease Agreement for equipment at the Water Tower, Gasoline for Police Vehicles, and Christmas Party. ### EDWARDS COUNTY REAL ESTATE TAX BILLS Edwards County Treasurer Debbie Smith is reminding residents that second installment of the 2021 payable 2022 Real Estate come due on Monday, November 28, 2022. The Tax extension amounts to $6,490,579.88. Payments may be made in person, by mail, or in the outside drop box. The box is located in front of the Cell Tower on the northeast side of the Courthouse (Sheriff's side). Anyone who uses the drop box should include a daytime phone number on their information. Those who wish to pay online using a credit or debit card may go to www.govtechtaxpro.com which will add a 2.5% fee that goes to the credit card company. The instructions are listed on the back of the tax bills on how to pay online. If you need additional information please call the Treasurer's office at 618-445-3581. ### FMH Blood Drive Fairfield Memorial Hospital will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on November 28th from 10:30am to 3:30pm in the Fairfield Memorial Hospital's Educational Annex. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone and is often used to treat trauma patients. There will be baked goods available for purchase as well as donations being accepted with great appreciation. The Christmas tree will be up and filled with tags so that the community can get a head start on Christmas shopping. All gifts need to be wrapped and returned to Kincaids. The committee appreciates all who shop and help make Christmas a little brighter for our local children and everyone who donates to this wonderful cause. Anyone wishing to put their child's name on the list can pick up those forms and fill them out at the Wayne County Health Department. ### All Star Package All Star Package in Cisne will be having a Chili cookoff & BB Gun Shoot to raise money for local XMAS FOR KIDS Foundation. Chili should be dropped off by 11:00 am. Judging will last throughout the day, until chili is gone. BB Gun shoot sign up is from 12:00-1:00. Shooting will start at 1:00. There will be a kids division, ( 0-12 ) & Adults division, (13 & up. Prizes will be awarded for every round. If you have any questions call 838-3619. ### Riverstages River stages as of this morning: the Little Wabash east of Fairfield stands at 5.92 feet, below the 17 ft. flood stage. Meanwhile, the Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 5.10 feet (flood stage is 15 ft.). The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 4.82 (flood stage is 18 ft.). Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 1.43 feet. The Little Wabash at Main Street in Carmi reads 3.58 feet, and the Wabash River at Mt. Carmel sits at 3.05 feet.
