A man is charged with attempted first-degree murder after police accused him of attacking and shooting a man trying to sell his motorcycle at a home in a High Point neighborhood.Click the video player above to watch other morning headlines from WXII 12 NewsHigh Point police said an officer on routine patrol was flagged down at Triad Fitness Center, located at 1744 Westchester Drive, at 12:38 a.m. in reference to a shooting victim.Investigators said the person that flagged down the officer reported that he had been shotabout 3 1/2 miles away at a home located at 1703 Welborn St. While other officers began to arrive at at the fitness center, High Point Communications began receiving calls of shots fired in the 1700 blocks of Welborn Street.While officers were assessing the victim, investigators it was obvious that the victim had been shot in the upper back/neck area. When the victim removed his hoodie, officers said the bullet fell out and onto the ground.Through their investigation, officers said they learned that the victim had gone to the house to sell his motorcycle. While there, one of the residents, Millard Elswick, 32, who the victim was familiar with, became very aggressive and began pistol-whipping the victim about his face and head. A friend of the victim arrived and observed the assault and told him to get into her van. The victim got into the driver's seat and as they were driving away, police said Elswick shot at the vehicle, striking the victim in the upper back and neck area. Officers said the victim drove from Welborn Street to the fitness center, where the officer was flagged down.Investigators said they observed damage to the driver’s side rear door of the van, where the glass was broken from the shot being fired.Officers responded to the house, and after a consent search of the residence, a gun was found that met the description given by the victim. The gun was confiscated and logged in as evidence, police said. Elswick was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder. He is being held in the Guilford County Jail in High Point without bail.The victim was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem to be treated for his injuries.
