Holy Cross Secondary School has teamed with JF Homes through the school’s Home Build Program as they are helping with some new home builds in Strathroy’s south end, plus a future partnership with the Hospital Foundation. The partnership gives students hands on experience building houses. Department Head of Technology at Holy Cross, Mike Stevenson, thinks it’s been great so far.
Stevenson adds that they developed the program to offer a trades route at the high school, where students in grades 11 and 12 are working on building houses and are getting hands on experience. He adds that students are able to continue the learning through the pandemic because they’re signed through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. He says there is a need within the industry for more trade workers.
