The federal government hasn’t yet published timely and publicly available data on how many Canadians are getting employment insurance (EI) benefits, nearly three months after the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) ended.
After the CERB wound down in late September, more than one million CERB recipients were switched over to a new and improved EI program, the primary distributor of federal income support.
In early October, applications also opened for three new benefits: for workers who don’t qualify for EI; those sick with COVID-19 or who are self-isolating; and those caring for a family member, including a child.
