Humble City Council approves election for May 1

On the blistery evening of Feb. 11, the Humble City Council approved a general joint election to be held May 1 for the purpose of electing a mayor and city council member places 1 and 2.
There are three contested positions, with six residents seeking the posts, two for the mayoral position and four for the council seats. The last day to file was Friday, Feb. 12.
Former Council Member Norman Funderburk will face Arliss Bentley for the mayor’s job. Funderburk, who served on city council for almost seven years, resigned in mid-January shortly after current Mayor Merle Aaron announced he would retire and not seek reelection. Bentley, a retired educator, has run for office in Humble several times.
