Isao Takahata Exhibition: A Legend in Japanese Animation

This exhibition marks the first large-scale retrospective of acclaimed director Isao Takahata, who was regarded as a leading figure in the world of Japanese anime. Takahata was known for the realistic worlds he created in works such as Heidi, Girl of the Alps and Grave of the Fireflies. His child friendly movies not only had mass appeal but also the ability to truly capture the imagination of adult viewers. This exhibition explores Takahata’s production process, which has influenced animators in Japan and overseas. Unreleased production notes, storyboards, and original drawings, we will be on display at the venue. These special exhibits will reveal more about the rich worlds Takahata depicted in his films.
