Now from abc 7, live breaking news. Destructive and now deadly. Heart break across the north bay as six large wild fires continue to rage on. Good evening. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for staying with us for continuing breaking News Coverage of the north bay wild fires. Just in the last hour, a Sonoma County spokesperson tells abc 7 news at an estimated 100 people are still missing tonight. There are a total of 10 confirmed deaths across napa, sonoma and mendocino counties. More than 20,000 people have been evacuated and more than 70,000 pg e customers are without power in the north bay. And heres a map showing where the fires are burning. More than 80,000 acres. The tubbs fire has grown to 87,000 acres. The redwood complex fire has ballooned now to 19,000 acres. And there is zero containment on any of these fires. The sulfur fire in lake county has grown to 2500 acres tonight. That is 5 contained. And the atlas fire has burned east from where it started in napa county and people face Evacuation Orders in salono county. And you can see where the fire is burning and where the new mandatory evacuations are. Just west of fair field, abc 7 News Reporter, Melanie Woodrow is live in fair field with the latest there. Yeah, were at k through 8, which has sort of become an impromptu staging area. We can see a number of trailers that have been pulling in and out of the parking lot. We think maybe theyre going to pick up horses and other animals that might pee on properties being evacuated right now. There are two mandatory evacuations. Joyce lane and twin sisters road. We have some Surveillance Video to share with you tonight of firefighters at one womans home on twin sisters road. Making sure nobodys inside. Shes been able to watch thooez cameras from her cell phone and told us a short time ago that she left her house with her 2yearold son. I had to have the conversation of if we didnt have to home to come to, if he was okay with that and i know hes two but he just looked at me and said yes, mommy, its going to be okay. Earlier theres been a lot of north wind. The wind as kind of died down and with that being the case, its hard to see what direction its going to be. So its trying to preplan and make sure everyone gets out safe. And obviously making sure everybody gets out of their homes safely is the most critical here and thats why those mandatory evacuations are necessary and likely why were seeing the First Responders who are going to homes making sure that nobody is inside. Live in salono county, Melanie Woodrow, abc 7 news. Thank you. Well, fires keep burning along both sides of u. S. 101 in santa rosa. Earlier today the flames forced the evacuation of two hospitals. Businesses are also destroyed. Abc News Reporter in santa rosa now. Reporter the fire that forced the evacuation of Kaiser Permanente hospital still burns tonight, hours later you can se. I can tell you the smoke is going vertically, meaning theres not much of a breeze here tonight. The flames have died down a bit in the several hours weve been here. That is above Fountain Grove parkway to give you perspective. And if thomas moves to his right, you can see a blue light in the distance. That is kaiser hospital. I want to show you video taken earlier today of those dramatic evacuations from this morning and the patients there being taken out of the hospital by the staff members, those brave doctors and nurses and some of those patients were evacuated to santa rosa Memorial Hospital where staff has worked tirelessly despite some of them possibly losing their own homes. We spoke with dr. Chad. Weve seen approximately this day 160 patients in our emergency department. In average we would see around 120 at this time. So were projecting around 200 patients. Weve been receiving transfers. Six came from kaiser, which included laboring moms of whom we care for as well. Reporter Memorial Hospital is asking personnel medical who may want to volunteer to call into their labor pool line if you have a specialty they need, they may ask for those services and anybody who doesnt have a medical emergency, theyre asking you to go to urgent care and avoid the er so that they can treat those burn patients and people with respiratory illnesses. I can tell you the smoke here has kind of changed throughout the evening. Right now we have some fresh air, at times it has been choking so they have been treating a lot of people with respiratory issues throughout the day. Live in santa rosa. Roughly about 150 people at least treated for respiratory illnesses as a result of all the smoke. And the weather is the key factor. Yesterday the winds really reeked havoc, spreading the embers and tonight the conditions are much, much calmer. This time last night we were tracking winds gusting well over 40 Miles Per Hour in the north bay. Look at your current winds at the surfs, encouraging news for firefighters from nuvaudo to napa, those winds are calm. Well take a look at the gusts. Because all officials have said winds have been the biggest factor as to why these fires have spread so quickly. And over the next 12 to 18 hours you can see those winds through the early afternoon on our tuesday are staying relatively weak. Less than about 5 mileperhour. But were watching that winds could increase. As we go hour by hour tomorrow afternoon, 1 00 on your tuesday, the winds are light in the north bay. Then theyre likely going to pick up tuesday into wednesday morning. In santa rosa it looks like those winds could be gusting at 31 Miles Per Hour. Wednesday morning, which would not be good for firefighters. But tonight the humidity is on the rise. Last night the levels were 10 to 14 . You can see the numbers right now in the north bay have not only tripled they have quadrupled. Along with the rising humidity and lowering winds we have issues with air quality. We have a lot of smoke, dan and kristen. It is encouraging. Tonight the winds are relaxing, so theres a good 18hour window that Mother Nature is cooperating for firefighters. Thanks so much. Lets get the latest from Sonoma County. Sergeant spencer crumb. Were hearing that as many as 100 missing persons reports have been filed. We want to clarify theres been about 100 phone calls from people saying theyre missing their friends and family. Some are duplicated, some are relatives. Tomorrow were going to have to look at trying to track down these people and reidentify them with their loved ones. That doesnt mean 100 people have perished, it just means you cant we dont have 100 missing people. We have 100 phone calls for people saying theres missing people. May not quite be 1 had 00. But weve had about a hundred phone calls from people looking for people. Give us a sense of what you do overnight and what you hit the ground running with first thing in the morning. Were providing scene security and keep an eye out for where the fires going and possibly keep a look out for new evacuations and so forth and working closely with our fire partedners and in the morning were going to have oo reassess. Were going to have a meeting in the morning. Can you talk about what will be closed and what will be open in terms of government and official business tomorrow. Sure. I know the court house is closed tomorrow. All the bailiffs that normally work in the court room have brought out on patrol and are providing security for the public. The courts made that decision to shut down for the day. Other than that, if theyre in a noneffected area of the fire, they should be available and open for business. Sergeant crumb, thank you so much for the information. We appreciate you explaining that you have gotten 100 calls about people who may be missing. That does not necessarily mean right now there are 100 people missing and we certainly hope the number will not be anywhee near that in actuality. More than 50,000 pg e customers in Sonoma County are without power. Once it gets clearance, pg e crews will start working to restore the power. We were talking about some of the closures in sonoma countery. Many schools were closed and will be closed again some districts are having difficulty notifying parents. Thats right. Sonoma State UniversityOfficials Say they feel the campus is safe but classes and University Business has been suspended for tomorrow. Napa Valley Unified School district will remain closed tomorrow and all schools in calistoga will be closed. We have all of them for you on our website, abc 7 news. Com. Law enforcement has told people in mandatory evacuation areas not to return until riltser all clear. Where the orders been lifted theyre finding terrifying devastation. Reporter kristen and dan, were at the intersection of highway 12 in the drone road. And theres been a barricade thats been set up here because highway 12 beyond this point is closed to traffic. We were up earlier this eervening and it is dangerous driving through there. Power lines are down, trees are down and there are fires on either side of the highway from vegetation fires to construction fires. About half the homes seem to have been destroyed by flames. Residents in the neighborhood left in the middle of the night. So many arent sure whether their homes are Still Standing. But we talked to one whos been at his home the whole time and so far so good. Havent had water since about 5 no. About 6 30 a. M. I have wet dirt, shoveling grass, knocking down wood fences to create a break. Just anything i can to save the fire was coming around this side and i stopped it. When it came around this side there was nothing i could do about it and there was about 10 minutes before the house was going to go up and thats when the Fire Department came. The dogs and horses are gone. I have kennels and thats all gone. But whats safe is the house and guest house is safe. Reporter how are you holding up . I havent had a chance to let my guard down yet. They say you you dont know how strong you can be until strong is your only option. Thats where im at right now. On highway 12 and the drone road, theyve been coming to the intersection to get information from the police officers. A lot of information gathering as people wait anxiously for the threat to be over. Lillian, thank you. Well, this could be very bad news for firefighters in napa county. The city just confirming that the atlas peek fire destroyed the hillcrest water pumping station. The napa valley register reports losing the pumping station and water supply could have a major effect on firefighters ability to fighting the flames. And theyre telling residents to boil water or bottled water as a precaution. A lot of the effected residents live near the Silverado Country Club. Live with the devastating scenes many are returning to tonight. Katy. Reporter dan and kristen, what were seeing mostly here in the Silverado Country Club area are hot spots. So in this destroyed home behind us, were looking at at least two burning in the rubble and i can see two others across the street from us here but firefighters explained theyre not dedicating any resources or focusing on hot spots because the damage has been done. Theres nothing they can do. They wanted to use the limited crews to focus on structure protection for the homes that there Still Standing. Earlier tonight, maybe two hours ago i talked with a home owner right at atlas peek road. So not far from the Country Club Area here. He told me he stayed home last night with the fire burning closer and closer to that home. His home is okay so far and he was going to stay again tonight as well. But at the last minute he had a change of heart. I came back, got set up, got my generator going. Got power running to the house. I have a 6yearold son and i have him with me and i waited to the night fall came down and saw the flames on the other side of the hill. I just couldnt go to sleep at night. Theres now no one here that would wake me up and i didnt want to take the chance. If it was by myself, maybe i would reconsider but not with my young son. Reporter and whats your plan snow. Ive got my motor home. Im going to go stay in front of some friends house and were going to wait it out and come back in the morning. And see how it goes. And wait it out tomorrow and see where the fires at. If the fire is i can still see it burning like that, ill probably go back to my friends house. I did talk to pg e this morning and they said the fire was supposed to be on by noon today. So i was hoping to wait until the power came on. Then i started hearing about all these things in santa rosa, and im a local. I know all these places intimately. So i just thought its just not safe. Im going to leave. Reporter sure. And where is your son snow isno . Is he still with you . Hes in the motor home. My daughters with friends. It was kind of eery. Ive been through a lot of different things. I served military. So this kind of stuff doesnt really bother me a whole lot. But what was eery is it was like a ghost town around here. I drove down and checked out some of the avenues and there was just no one there, no power, no life. It felt like you walked through something that was a ghost town. That was the eariest part of the whole thing. Reporter and right after we talked with tom, we watched him and his son pull away in the rv. Hell be back rrmoto,ow then, maybe stay, maybe leave. Really taking it hour by hour at this point. But one of the lucky ones who has a home Still Standing but as firefighters have told us out here its an unpredictable business and no homes are declared safe at this point. As weve been standing here in the last two seconds we heard something collapse and rattling behind us in this destroyed home but there are unusual sounds all over and it only takes one ember on a wooden deck or in a wood pile and we lose another home. We have seen fire engines up and down this neighborhood and parked in front of homes and everyone of course toing the best they can to save as many homes as they can. Live in napa county, abc 7 news. Thank you. Well, some of the most compelling images have come from the silverado neighborhood. Laura anthony walks us through the devastation. Reporter im Laura Anthony in napa in the Silverado Country Club and resort neighborhood where the sun is setting on a day of utter devastation. I came down through hillcrest and i believe it was the 2,000 block and homes are burning still one after another. Theres no air support, no helicopters. Well, the fires sporadic. Its all over. Were trying to get air resources to give us a better idea where the fires heading, wheres it going. The primary responsibility through the night has been getting people out of here. Its a great neighborhood, great neighbors, but its tough. These people are losing their homes. I tried to knock on as much doors as i could. I knocked on the door which is no longer a house. The words cant describe i dont even know how im going to live here anymore. Waters off and ive got two buckets and im going to go around and douse any live flames i see. I think the worst part is you drive around and you know some of the people and you know this is their lifes belongings and they didnt have time to get it out and its a sad situation. Its been a day thats been very difficult but one where the neighbors have learned how much they care for one another. Laura anthony, abc 7 news. Earlier theres been a lot of north winds. The wind has died down and with that being the case, its kind of hard to see if the wind does come up, what direction its going to be. Just trying to preplan and make sure everyone gets out safe. And its not just making sure that people get out safe, but people also wanting to make sure that animals are safely evacuated from these properties. A short time ago we saw a number of trailers in this parking lot quickly taking off. They were going to rescue any horses or other animals from the hill side. But obviously making sure both those animals and the epippeoplo live in those homes are safe is the most critical thing and thats why those Evacuation Orders are mandatory and theyre going home to home making sure nobody is inside.
