Weatherwise we are off to a rainy start throughout the bay area. Meteorologist lisa argen tracking the forecast for us. Hi, lisa. Hey, chris, good morning to you. Check out the rainy state of california from north to south, even some thunderstorms offshore. But the activity for us locally will be with us through about midday, and then well begin to dry out. Were already seeing that in parts of the north bay. Live doppler 7 showing a bit of a break in the action here. Its still a 2 on our storm impact scale and were still getting some localized flooding up here towards lake county, around lakeport, kelseyville and clear lake. The flood stage is around 9 feet hovering to 10 feet here. Elsewhere in the north bay you can see the showers from lakeport to middletown and knoxville. As we go further south, some light to moderate showers here. In the east bay from piedmont through berkeley and highway 13, certainly wet. Further south, union city, fremont, 880 in newark, its a soggy start for you. In the south bay it has been raining throughout the morning hours, a bit of a break here. But campbell and saratoga looking at a wet saturday. Stanford, palo alto and menlo park. Up the peninsula well see light showers from san mateo, foster city, san carlos, and in and out of the light showers here in San Francisco. In the mountains, it is snow hovering from a rain snow mix here, 32, 33 degrees with your winter storm warning in effect until 4 00 tomorrow. So the snow levels will rise throughout the afternoon, but were still expecting 12 to 18 inches of snow, 2 feet above our highest peaks. Looking at the localized resorts here picking up at lake level, 5500 feet about 10 inches to 3 or 4 inches at incline. 2 on our storm impact scale. Weve already seen about a half inch to an inch up in the north bay and the totals will continue from the peninsula southward. That will take us through the rest of the afternoon. So we fast forward this into another hour, and you notice the showers are from San Francisco south. Theyll continue to push to the east. But were getting the area of low pressure trailing behind it, so were still going to see the showers throughout the day isolated. Then into the evening hours and a portion of your sunday. But as i stop this through 9 00 this morning, this is what weve had already. A half inch to threequarters of an inch to an inch around ben lomund. So most of the activity will be behind us after the noon hour. It is a soggy look at sfo this morning. 54 in san jose, 51 in santa rosa. Then a stronger storm into late tuesday and wednesday. 58 degrees today in oakland, 60 in palo alto. Looking at overnight lows in the 40s and 50s due to the cloud cover. Remember, well still have a few scattered showers as you wake up into your sunday. So this is late tonight into sunday, and notice how the showers well, theres not too many of them. We cant rule them out. As we get to your Early Morning sunday, about 24 hours from now, youll notice theres a few out there. A one on our storm impact scale to round out the weekend. Im anthony flores, have a great weekend. Turning to weather now and the alwaysimportant accuweather forecast with our meteorologist, lisa argen. Hi, lisa. Hey, chris, good morning to you. Well, we are still in the thick of this system. The rain started around midnight for some of you so its been raining for six or eight hours. We have picked up anywhere from about a third of an inch with thunderstorms in the Livermore Valley to over an inch in parts of the north bay and santa cruz mountains. As we look at the san mateo bridge right now, it is soggy out there. More rain for the peninsula and the south bay through about noon time. So with most of the rain accumulating overnight, we are looking at more amounts, lesser amounts as we go through the rest of the day. So heres what it looks like as we go through the north bay. Only a tenth or so right on through the rest of the day and maybe 0. 2 down through the santa cruz mountains. So well continue to see more rain, but after the 12 00 hour, it gets drier and more isolated showers will be in the forecast. Santa cruz right now looks kind of bleak there with the clouds and more morning rain showers. Heres a look at live doppler 7 where the rain is scattering out of the north bay but still pockets from San Francisco to vacaville and san ramon. We still have a Flood Warning up towards lake county, where our friends in kelseyville and lakeport dealing with a little flooding here through tuesday, as youve had more rain and youre hovering around 10 feet here. So above flood stage. So watch that. Were also watching for less shower activity here throughout the rest of the weekend. So you still have it from upper lake to lakeport and wilbur springs. But it will become more widely scattered. As we go through the east bay from orinda to piedmont, highway 24, some light showers. Richmond, the richmondsan rafael bridge, but more heavy rain as you get towards union city, niles road and paseo padre parkway. Down towards fremont, some pretty good pockets of rain. Into the south bay, its been a rainy morning, in through saratoga and los gatos. On the peninsula its lighter but its there, its damp. The fields are wet if you have baseball or any type of outdoor activity, its probably a nogo today. 280 on the peninsula is wet. Then through the north bay, southern marin, tiburon and a bit of wet weather down through 280. Winter storm warning through 4 00 tomorrow. The snow levels going up a bit. It is about 32, 33 degrees so 12 to 18 inches of snow at 5500 feet and then up to 2 feet above that. Were looking at the local resorts picking up nearly a foot, 9 inches southlake. Its a 2 on our storm impact scale for the rest of the morning hours. By the afternoon, just scattered showers, a 1 on our storm impact scale. This is the way its going to play out. This forecast model shows at 9 00 this morning still some rain from San Francisco south into the east bay. 2 00 scattered showers cloverdale, santa rosa, but they move out quickly. Then by the evening hours were basically dry and isolated showers picking up tomorrow morning. The scattered showers continue. It will be a 1 on our storm impact scale, but a few peeks of sun for your sunday afternoon. Well do better than that on monday with more sun. As we look outside, it is gray in emeryville, 54 in san jose. From our roof camera, gray, light rain, 50 santa rosa. The fog is with us as well. 2. 5 mile visibility sfo, and hayward just over two miles. 58 today palo alto and oakland, 56 in vallejo. Well be looking at more rain coming our way on tuesday. Its a 1 on our storm impact scale, but by wednesday with the saturated ground and a few heavy downpours, weve got a 2 on our storm impact scale so stay tuned. This is next week. So this weekend were featuring the heaviest rain or more concentrated rain right now a 2 on our storm impact scale. Scattered showers sunday. You notice the rain heads our way but the focus in central and Southern California for another Atmospheric River that were going to miss. Lisa, thank you. Abc 7 news is dedicated to building a better bay area. One of the Biggest Challenges facing our communities is housing affordability. In Silicon Valley, worry is growing that the lack of Affordable Housing could make it more difficult to retain or recruit workers, so new ideas have surfaced to try to speed up housing development. Abc 7 News Reporter david louie looks at some of those ideas. Reporter as housing prices soar out of reach for many, brainstorming sessions like this continue to try to make Affordable Housing a reality. The Silicon Valley Leadership Group brought together elected officials and developers. State senator scott weiner of San Francisco has reintroduced legislation in sacramento he believes will boost Affordable Housing projects like the ones you see under construction near Public Transit stations like b. A. R. T. Near a High Frequency bus stop or ferry station or a job center, you cant limit density. You just cant basically prohibit those forms of housing. Reporter there are discussions with the Building Trades unions to develop a lower pay scale for construction of Affordable Housing projects which might be an incentive for developers. Doug mcdonnell is the chief operating officer of summer hill housing. Certainly having some idea on labor costs and how that will impact future projects is important to us. Reporter theres one problem not easily addressed, building consensus in many smaller cities for Affordable Housing. The biggest way to do it is to rally the community so they feel engaged and part of the conversation earlier rather than at the end when they start to see shovels breaking ground. Reporter in cupertino, a civil suit to oppose the use of a state law that allows fast tracking of an Affordable Housing project at vallco is still pending. The case wont go before a judge until august. Even laws meant to streamline approval of Affordable Housing can lead to delays. David louie, abc 7 news.
