A lot going on this mornin it is 4 38. Mike, i want to check in with you because we have the fires, the heat, so much to think about today. The air quality. Right. And it is all entintertwined. So lets talk about the air quality first because that is affecting everybody. And okrehe w dangerous in redwood city and down towards san jose. Reporting stations there are saying it is unhealthy for sensitive in the orange and for everybody in the and up around vacaville and dixon and deeper into solano county, also unhealthy for everybody up there. And that will spread today and some of our friends at work from pacifica, san francisco, oakland, all say that they can smell and taste the smoke in the air. So even where it is not unhealthy, you wlile heatll s w in the north bay. Lo0 at thoss. E mi at least we got rid of the 100s over the weekend. It is not looking quite as warm as it did. But that is because the seabreeze will pick up. And the winds do pick up today. They were relatively calm yesterday environmentally around the fire. Up to 17 to 20 Miles Per Hour along with temperatures in the 100s, that will pose a big problem for thethnorth bay. So lets take a look at the smoke. And there is plenty across the entire state. But look at how the smoke increases as we head throughout the afternoon hours and then it will kind of simmert and a then builds up again, tomorrow of the smoke wl to eabreezep ta little bit. Lets talk about temperatures, you can see 70s and 80s inland and weve got even some 50s along the coast, 60s at your c planner, i pist oor air quality and dangerous heat. You need to be aware of both of those today. Lets talk more about the morning commute with jobina. Thank you. So im still focusing on our road closures due to the fires and i do have some updated information coming out of Santa Cruz County, but we will first start with the maps again in vacaville because that is most beingactive areas. And there is talk about eventually closing things down. So according to the fire department, the fire has jumped. So Pleasants Valley road and the connects streets and roads have been impacted here. So all resents need to canyon, canton, gates canyon, those areas as well. And again, Pleasants Valley and everything connected to that. Moving now to the Santa Cruz Mountains here, sourou have thid and southbound 9et bwe and skyline boulevard, this is completely shut down this morning as well. And then i want to napa and sait. Helena, east and westbound 128 is closed ts hirn we know these are challenging times. Rest assured, you are not alone. Weve all had to adapt. It includes the hennessey fire. And an update onwier a few hours ago, cal fire says this fire has jumped Pleasants Valley road and heading toward vacavil. I o caoffi scirefial confirmation o much of vacaville will be evacuated. The lnu lightning complex though is burningn terrain with a lot of dry thick brush and vegetation fueling the flames. So a tgh situation out there. And mike, i know this is something youve been watching because the heat weve been talking about today andirhe t f. Absolutely, heat and terrain are the two biggesttoac f thr low humidity. We dont have the winds, but you can see the wind that the fire creates as it was sucking the called the chimney effect. It heats dries it out and then allows to ignite faster and burn hotter. And that is why y ou get t rising air and you have to bring in air from around the system to fill in that rising air. You cant have a vacuum in the atmosphere and that creates even faster winds around the fire itself. And that is what can throw some of the embers down wind. Were not seeing the type of winds that we get in say september and october. We dont have the diablo winds out there thankfully. But we did have the heat and r defoill make it even har leta sp back from that and i want to take care of what will happen today because we know life will go on for those of you that arent dealing with the fires, therely comfort. 50s and 60s, but this is day seven of the extme heat with 85 to 96 at noon, 89 to near 100 at 4 00, and still in the 80s to near 90 by 7 00 on this spare the air day. So here are the high temperatures f to 90 in sunnyville, some morgan hill. About 90 in redwood city and down towards loss al toes. And you can see a few low 70s along the peninsula coast and mid to upper 70s downtown an south san upr 60s in the north coast. But as you head into the valleys, we jump from 81 to 92. 100s around cloverdale. And in the east bay, we have 80 in richmond, 83 in89 in degrfremont. And inland, 97 to 102. Look at this, and i woulday s w refreshing 50s in the north bay and along the coast, but you cant because of the smoke and the unhealthy air. That is the unfortunate part. It will be cooler tonight, but still very smoky outside. So tonight will be one of our coolest nights, friday morning will be pretty decent. Look at those temperures, pulling back by a couple degrees, but still warmer than average and well flirt with 100 over the weekend, mid to upper heat. D toward sunday and the monday, werechg genevieve to bring us more humidity and a slight chance of thunderstorms and well talk about that coming up. With all of this going on, the California Emergency Management Agency is reminding all of us really we have to be ready for any type of Natural Disaster like a wildfire. We all are encouraged to have emergency kits stocked with items like battery operated di fla shlights with extra batteries, and you should have a three day supply of food and water for everybody in the family ready to go. Trg at a low price we continue to follow breaking news in vacaville where a wildfire is moving towards the city and people have been ordered to evacuate. Now, this fire is part of the lnu lightning complex which has burned more than 32,000 acres,n. It contains the hennessey fire which is burning in the hills above saints helena. On twitter, cal fire says that this fire has jumped Pleasants Valley road and now heading toward vacaville. There is no official confirmation of how much of advantage beville will be acuad, uthiss cherry pnlendasan ats valley. And you can see Police Presence there just kind of monitoing who is going in and out. And the challenge with this fire that we heard from cal fire is that it is burning in really steep and rugged terrain. There is a lot of dry thick brush and vegetation fueling those flames. So we see police out there, they gave us an update that they dont know exactly how many people will be evacuated, but they did a reverse 911 isnt so they can reach out to people and officers are going door to door to make sure that everyone knows that they need to evacuate. But mike, it is definitely a challenge not only for police to make people aware of this, but for firefighters because you are talking about the heat, maybe the wind and the terrain. And you have to keep out because the heat will be a big deal. It almost looks like snowing, you can see some of the ash falling in this picture right now. And it gives you an idea of what you will wake up to. Lets show you the air quality. You will see a lot of red. And look how they are spreading the red through places like vacaville and dixon and how into places like palo alto, redwood city, cupertino, saratoga all wae thy across 237. We have unhealthy air for everybody. So if you didnt think you needed to wear a mask because of covid19, maybe you ought to wear one because of this, because it is definitely unhealthy outside if you have to be out there. As promised, here is a look at what is going on with genevieve. It has lost a little bit of its strength, but still category 3 m. Orst than backing off just a little bi o potential for thunderstorms as you can see in future radar right here. M range models npe tay dy mdao u which arent as finely tuned as our High Resolution models which will pick up on this as we get into friday and saturday and sunday. So friday morning, well have a better idea with our High Resolution models exactly what is going to happen with that ha. Haen that was a once in a couple years event. But for the third time this summer, there is thesios ptyl s of some thunderstorms. And so until then, lets focus on the fires. Temperatures will be steamiextr hot today. And next couple days breezes will pick up a bit. And reeze i picksso up, that will be an issue, but it will also bring two things we dont have, it will bring cooler weather and also higher humidity. So well trade off the heat for those things. And hopefully that will help a little bit. And coming up next, were staying on top of this breaking news, wildfires on the move. Good morning, it is wednesday, august 19. A lot to get to this morning. It is a scary situation to e vehao t in the middle of the night. Mike, this brings back a lot of memories of just three years ago when we you saw the north bay on fire and here we are again. Riet. Bitf a difference, the winds arent quite as fast, but they will pick up a bit the nooeext coupl days. Especially overnight, that is when some of fassthe t winds develo develop. And you can clearly see where the fires are by the particulate matter they are producing. So well havee s heavyom ash falling right now in places like vacaville. And dixon. And even heavier ash falling, look at that, you are getting up into redsr. That is usually a moderate rain storm. So that gives you an idea of how much particulate matter is in the air and how dangerous that will be for us to breathe today. And you can see the north bay is spreading more east northeast and over the santa cruz mounta
