More than 356,000, containment. Cal fire shifted a lot of its focus to lake countys middle town, Hidden Valley lake and lower lake. Its an area thats been hit multiple times in several years. And this report for us a short time ago. Flames shooting into the smoky air along the hillside of butts canyon road southeast of middletown. A site that is one of the main fire focuses for cal fire. I honestly expected cal fire to buckle and just get overwhelmed by it. They have held up, remarkably well. In fact, on tuesday, some firefighters sprayed the hillside with water. Others took to the air, dropping fire retardant. This is an area where homes have burned in the past. Theres now hope that wont happen, again. There is a little bit of deaa vu. But what are you going to do . The human condition is to power through. So you cant lay down. Kirk and jack liser work and live in the hills on the outskirts of middletown and arent backing down. Theyre not firefighters but theyve got two massive water trucks and have been using dozers to clear land and protect their property. We did our part. We put fire lines around this valley because i like looking at green trees instead of charred ones. Firefighters showed us the area of concern tuesday afternoon, saying that some of the same areas that burned in the past fires are burning, again. Not as with much intensity the second time because most of the fuel has burned. While we were told of one structure that had burned in the hills, those we talked with werent aware of any others that had burned off of butts canyon road. Ill sleep good. Yeah. Well, depending on where there little flareup, up the road here is. And you are looking at these fire crews in middletown. Some of the dozers that they have been using out here. During an update this afternoon, cal fire said there are three to four spots that remain extremely active. A large drift of smoke from the woodward fire raised fears this evening in marin county with the Sheriffs Office saying it was just overwhelmwood caled calls about it. The fire is 5 contained. People living in Inverness Park are under mandatory evacuation order. Abc 7 News Reporter Cornell Bernard has the latest now. Reporter crews digging in and setting backfires to meet the woodward fire, head on, up the ridge. And protect the nearby point rays visitor center. Kevin lawson and his family live near the fire line in Inverness Park. Were the only ones left. But we were packed up, already. Ingrid lawson says most of her neighbors have packed up and gone, as the fire slowly moves closer to homes. Its pretty scary. But got to adapt to it well and make the best of it. On inverness rich, these crews strategize a game plan. They are battling unique challenges inside this national park. Firefighter sarah lee discovered that someone broke into her suv overnight outside the four points hotel. Lee is the finance chief for a group of firefighters battling the woodward fire. The thief took camping gear. Time cards for firefighters are also missing. They need to be focussiing o fighting the fire. Just one night, i slept in my car. Rita is the executive director of a nonprofit, which along with the red cross and San Mateo County have provided 650 hotel vouchers. She and 80 of her staff have been evacuated from their own homes, and they are still on the front lines supporting others. There is a lot of examples of Community Members helping Community Members. And i think thats what describes our community. If you want to help these families, the best thing you can do is donate money or gift cards to places like safeway, target, and ross. You can also donate physical goods but because of covid, thats become a bit more complicated. And they want to make sure they match the right items with the right families. Despite a curfew, a crowd of protestors gathered tonight outside the courthouse in kenosha, wisconsin, in response to the shooting of jacob blake. Police used tear gas and rubber bullets to try to disperse the crowd. Earlier today, wisconsins governor declared a state of eergency to deal with a third day of protests. Blakes mother condemned the violence during the demonstrations. Do jacob justice, on this level, and examine your hearts. We need healing. Blakes family says he was shot seven times and is paralyzed. He was shot in the back, on sunday, by a white officer, as he appeared to be getting into a car. Californias covid19 surge appears to be slowing so the state is getting ready to issue a new set of rules for reopening the economy, again. Reporter california is seeing coronavirus cases drop, along with hospitalizations and counties are coming off the states watch list. How can they reopen . We are going to find out this week as the state takes into consideration, how the virus spreads. We hear about transmission, the impact of what some people say are family gatherings. I have good news. Conditions are going to continue to remain favorable for those firefighters on monday. And let me show you the live picture. You will notice that the marine layer is keeping things socked in. Visibility is low around the port of oakland but this is actually very helpful since the humidity is up. From our mt. Tam cam. That has helped to raise the humidity on the fire lines. Live doppler 7 right now showing you the fog along the coastline and a blanket of smoke from the satellite perspective over california. Of course, there are so many fires burning that the wind direction is changing, and so things are changing, from hour to hour. I do want to show you what has been factoring into helping those firefighters. There is an area of low pressure thats sitting off the coast thats keeping the winds out of the westsouthwest. And thats keeping the onshore flow and higher humidity for those firefighters, as long as thats parked off the coast, which is at least for a few days, we are going to continue to see the cooling influence. Along the coastline, temperatures in the upper 50s. Upper 70s, inland. It was a cooler day today. Heres a look at the air quality. That has improved, as well. You will notice many areas in the yellows, which is moderate air quality. A few spots in the poor to unhealthy category. But, compared to earlier, it did get better. From our south beach camera, you are seeing a foggy view. Smoke impacts continue the next few days. And we are looking at a warmer pattern for the end of the week. Hourbyhour forecast. The smoke will settle tomorrow morning, as the winds subside. The winds have already let up. Going into the afternoon and evening, as that sea breeze picks up, its going to push the smoke out just briefly, like it did today. And then, we go back to the smoke building thursday afternoon. This, i do not want to report on but i do want to warn you about. Thursday afternoon, going into friday, change in wind direction. The smoke could actually be worse, indicated by the pinks there. Shades of pinks around the south bay and parts of the north bay. Thats why the spare the air alert has been extended through friday. Poor to unhealthy air quality during this time period. It looks like, perhaps over the weekend, we might see a shift in the wind and perhaps better air quality. Temperatures first thing in the morning, mid50s to upper 60s. Foggy, hazy conditions. As we look at the afternoon hours, 67 in the city. 73 in oakland. San jose, 84. 84, santa rosa. Low 90s around antioch and fairfield. The next three days. The good thing is we are not expecting any extreme heat but on friday, it does get hotter and smoky skies are expected, i think, for the weekend. Improvement, hopefully, in the air quality. In the east bay, oakland zoo closed early today because of airquality concerns because of wildfire smoke. The zoo was closed for more than four months because of the covid19 pandemic, and just reopened late last month. Oakland zoo says updates about airquality closures will be on its website. Animals are getting more time in their indoor areas to reduce, of course, their exposure to the smoke.
