Buddha oh, congratulate buddha right off the top. People say youre a food snob , but you say thats not true. You. And theres a lot more to the backstory than that. How do you defy that label . So it depends on your definition of food snob. I dont think i am. Look, my wife at the at the start didnt like me because i seem to have like a node or sort of feel to me. But i mean, im just very passionate about what i do. And if i know something, ill say it. Its my field. Its what im passionate about cooking. And ive loved cooking for such a long time. So if i really come off like a kind of like a know it all, its because i really want to engage in a conversation about food because im really passionate about it. What do you credit with your success as far as you know, its not just that you won top chef among the basic top chefs, but you won top chefs among the worlds best top chefs as an executive chef, nowadays, ive spent most of my career actually just working for people and those people were pushing me and teaching me. And thats why when i came to top chef, it found another avenue to bring out the sort of out of comfort zone experience where i was constantly pushing myself and learning more dishes and more about myself and the cooking that i can do. I think you were 12 when you started working in your parents kitchen, right in the restaurant. Was it just a job at that point or did you realize already you had a love affair with food . I was in love from the moment that i started doing it. I started off as a server actually at nine years old because, you know, i think most children growing up in a chinese restaurant, they find out that their parents are working more in the restaurant and you dont get that time. So i was like, hey, i dont want to stay at home on the weekends. I want to go do something. And i was running like little plates of food, maybe 3 or 4 times a night and then watching cartoons in the back. But then all of a sudden, i just really loved the reaction of someone going, wow. And enjoying the meal. And i was like, i really love that feeling. And i just wanted to be in a career where i can constantly do that. And i think with my food, i dont just only cook just to feed people, but just to make sure that they have an experience and make sure that they feel that sort of wow, that i got when i was nine years old. If you were trying to impress someone or when you and rebecca were dating, do you remember that particular entree that you prepare that youre like, im going to get him . One of my favorite things to cook is a wellington. And its i just think that theres so many levels of how you can cook it into the perfection of the crust , to the patterns, to you know, youve got so many levels of it. And i think that i continue to push myself to try and understand the science between it speaking of the oven, your wife, whos a pastry chef, has two buns in the oven right. Your reaction to that news . Oh, it was crazy. So first of all, my wifes a pastry sous chef at 11 madison park. And when we found out that she was pregnant, we looked at the ultrasound and were like, okay, theres a baby, like, congratulations. And then, boom , another one came out and into the into the ultrasound. And i almost fell off my chair. She couldnt fall off hers. But it was crazy just to see that were very, very lucky. Whats next for you . Cant wait for the twins to come out and be a father and obviously open up some restaurants and just continue doing what i love. Our thanks to linsey davis. Im sure hell teach his kids to cook since his dad teach him the fundamentals of cooking. His dad was from hong kong. You know, not to toot my own horn, but earlier this morning, i did toast a bagel. Its really breathtaking. Shot off the coast of palm beach, florida. I knew it. Thats always florida. That it shows a large hammerhead shark closing in on a group of bathers who are apparently standing their ground. They dont seem worried. The man who shot the video, evan parnas, says the shark was a great hammerhead, 14ft long, likely weighing about 1,000 pounds. Hammerheads are widely believed to be harmless to humans, of course, though, until theyre not, until theyre not. All it takes is the one time. No, honestly, this is probably a better reaction than panicking, right . Theres just the one shark thats approaching. You might as well just because sharks dont want to eat humans , thats usually the case, is they bite a human by mistake and then they realize its not food and they move on with their lives. And theres like eight people there. So i guess they probably could take the one shark. But once theres blood in the water, you know what happens, too. All right. Next to our first look at the oldest human ever. Wait, what . Scientists harnessing the power of computers have digitally recreated the face of a woman. They believe lived 45,000 years ago in europes modern day czech republic. A fossilized portion of her skull was recovered more than 70 years ago, and shes believed to have been eaten by an animal after her death, not a hammerhead shark, i dont think. Yeah, no, she was found on land. The woman named zlaty kun is believed to be the oldest human to ever walk the earth. Which, of course, begs the question, what about her mother . She had to come from somewhere. What came first . Chicken or the egg . Chicken or the egg . Yeah. Next to the four stowaways who crossed the atlantic in a nook above the rudder of a container ship. Wait, what . Yes. Four nigerian men were hoping to sneak into europe, but instead landed thousands of miles away in brazil. But only after running out of food and water and surviving only on seawater to keep from falling into the shark infested waters just feet away, the men rigged a net around the rudder and tied themselves to it with a rope. They were on that rudder for 14 days. The four men were rescued by brazilian federal police. Two have since returned to nigeria. The others have applied for asylum in brazil. They just survived. That is a dangerous and dangerous journey there. And finally, to your ticket to a free donut at krispy kreme. Wait what . All right.
