We didnt see new talent, we didnt see diverse bodies. Selling the fantasy was more important than catering to everyday women. The brand quickly moving away from the iconic scantilyclad angels to naming ambassadors instead, including trans model valentina san pie and athletes like megan rapinoe. Reporter nightline was behind the scenes at its last show in 2018, which the company touted as one of its most diverse yet. Im just so happy that victorias secret is including models of color. Were celebrating diversity. We have angels from all over the world. I think diversity is so important. I wouldnt be doing it if i wasnt empowered. Reporter still, many women felt the models never reflected the increasing diversity of the brands target consumers. I would judge my body so harshly and really compare it to the women on that catwalk. I felt, why not just show a few more sizes on that runway . Or a few more ages . Whats so wrong about that . And then it completely went the opposite way. It went very young, and it went skinnier if possible. I mean, i was so disappointed. I stopped loving them as a brand. Reporter australian model robin lawly, once a huge fan of the show, who even auditioned for it twice, has long been critical of victorias secret and what it represented to many young women around the world. If youre walking in that fashion show, you werent eating. These girls were going to crazy lengths to walk that runway. Some of them werent even drinking water. You know, because it was muscle definition on their bodies. Reporter in 2018, she started an online petition urging people to boycott the victorias secret fashion show writing, as women, i want us all to join together and say, i am enough, i am beautiful, i am unique, and i want to see my body shape represented in your shows. I remember how i felt as a teenager by watching such shows and not seeing my body represented. I have a daughter. And i wouldnt want my daughter to go through that at all. You know, im not going to let her go through that. Reporter but for robin, victorias secrets efforts to change its image feel hollow. I think the rebranding for me personally is a little bit too late. I do want them to change, but i want the show back. I dont want it in tv form, i want the actual show back, and i want them doing that down that runway to an audience like they used to do. Reporter the criticism goes beyond just a lack of inclusivity. In 2018, a longtime powerful Senior Executive ed razek made controversial comments in a vogue interview, saying victorias secret doesnt hire, quote, transsexuals for its runway show because the show is a fantasy. But by the time the show would have come around the following year, the company decided to cancel the show. There had been growing criticism. Reporter but for its efforts to move past the controversies, Public Perception of the brand is still on shaky ground. Since going public in the summer of 2021, victorias secrets stock price has been on a downward trend. They have to play catchup to the brands that came out saying, we see you, and we represent you, and we have something for you, and were not going to make you feel ashamed of what your body looks like in its most intimate shape. Victorias secret has to start from ground zero with that. I do think our generation is becoming more and more conscious about our purchasing choices. I think it still holds a lot of power in the market and the culture. So if it were to make a comeback and be a little bit more inclusive, it will do a lot for the new generation of young girls where they feel like their body is beautiful in one way or another. I feel like victorias secret, if anything, theyre trying to steer away from that to show their new image. But it just so happened that people also really miss the old image that they have. In particular with amanda n namora, supervising agent for lizzo. She says she was helping her move a Clothing Rack when things started to go awry. She rolls over my foot with this heavy rack. I went, wait a minute, my foot is really hurting, i need to stop, i need to sit down. So she pushes me into the rack, and she says, dont make excuses, take this rack. Reporter according to the claims in the lawsuit, daniels claims, due to being shoved, she lost her balance and rolled her ankle which led her to wearing more comfortable shoes the next day to minimize the pain. She alleges namora demanded she change into tennis shoes. Im stunned because ive never had anyone put their hands on me, saeshl in a workplace. Of all places on tour with lizzo. Anything different between how she interacted with me and how i saw her with other people is i was a black woman and she felt she could get away with treating me that way. Reporter daniels says that wasnt the only staffmember that was unprofessional. She says the tour was an overly sexual workplace, pointing to one alleged incident in a team group chat with lizzos staffers. You say in the lawsuit that there was a group chat with nearly three dozen people, more than 30 people. And this were times that what was discussed made you uncomfortable . Theres a picture sent to all 30plus of us of a porn star who was erect, and his genitalia was out. Management was in that group chat as well. Nobody reprimanded the person who sent it. Reporter daniels says she was inspired by the three young dancers, who are also suing lizzo, to tell her own story about working for the star. When i saw them speak up i thought, thats what strong looks like. I was really proud of them, because i knew how toxic the work culture was on that tour firsthand. Reporter the two lawsuits are now renewing scrutiny about lizzo. We reached out to lizzo and her attorney to sit down with us. They declined. Daniels claims she heard a senior staffer on lizzos team mocking the girls and even lizzo herself in a racist way. You say that amanda would allegedly mock lizzo . Yeah. Amanda would regularly mock both lizzo and the big girls, refer to them as fat, a bevy of really inappropriate things. Useless, lazy. I told her, this is really offensive. She just laughed it off. Most of your allegations are against Amanda Nomura. What about lizzo herself . Since you never interacted with her, how much responsibility do you think she has in all of this . Im a business owner.
