Jimmy really . cause i had to play this mean boss. And im like, that wasnt me. Im like, ive got to act, and try to be mean to this girl and the and all this stuff . And then i broke my toe that week. [ audience ohs ] i come to shoot the show, run into the bathroom in the hotel, bam, hit it on the table and broke it. So im like, on crutches and i gotta go on tv. And they had to reblock i was sitting a lot, and then standing in one place, because i couldnt put any weight on my foot. It was terrible. Jimmy so, youre like, leaning but maybe use it for your anger, for your character. I tried to. Jimmy but then you came back to the show, but as a a different character. Totally different character. And i loved that one. My foot wasnt broke on that one. Jimmy season two, you were like a Love Interest for will. Yes. [ cheers and applause ] jimmy and now is it a a different story . I think he shut that down. cause it was like cause originally, i think we were supposed to kiss in that scene, he was like, i cant kiss my sister. [ light laughter ] and thats i mean, we had toured so much. It was like, would have been like kissing my brother. [ light laughter ] jimmy is that right . Really, because you knew, well i mean i knew will, because we all toured. You know, we were all out there as young rappers and he would headline shows with like heavy d and we were just these young rappers on their big tour. You know, but still, we spent months at a time together on the road. So, were all kind of around the same age. We grew up out there. So when he got on he helped us out. Jimmy but didnt when did you start your management, flavor unit . We started flavor unit in 1991. Jimmy yeah, im told that you well, actually, it was like 90. I was 20yearsold. Jimmy wow, you started your own Management Company. What what made you how did you know about management . Well, my partner shy and i, we were in the same crew, the flavor unit. And you know, we just kind of felt like we could do it ourselves. He would say, come one, we can do this. Im like, we can . Okay, lets give it a try. So we decided to open up a a Management Company to manage me, cause i didnt really want to be managed by anyone else. And i met with all the top managers, but we felt like we could do it on our own. And then, once i started once we managed me, then all my boys had these contracts, apache, latee, lakim. Everybody had these contracts, and they were terrible contracts. So our next mission was to get all of our homeboys out of these bad contracts, which we did and we wound up managing our whole crew. [ cheers and applause ] jimmy love that you did that. Yeah. Jimmy heres you with your mom. Sorry, look at that. [ light laughter ] on the phone all business. I was so young my mom worked in my office. [ laughter ] jimmy isnt that great . Ill tell you, man, i could remember after doing that movie taxi, singing on the corner, and i said, this kid is going to go a long way. [ laughter ] jimmy we did. I love you man. We did, we did. Jimmy i used to bother you all the time. I wanted to know stories i know you served on the Newark Police force for so many years. You have so many good stories. Quickly lets talk about your daughter. When did you realize when did you know she was going to be a performer . She would mimic everything, you know . She picked up the guitar and she got in to the guitar, and she played that guitar and then she started singing. And then i said, well, shes hitting the notes and shes singing. Shes going to go far with this, you know. [ audience aws ] but my son had a set of drums. And i worked nights and i gave him the drums and he lit them drums up one morning and i worked all night and i said, oh, these drums have got to go [ laughter ] [ talking over each other ] jimmy have you tried the triangle . Yeah. I forget about that. Jimmy how many years did you serve as a Police Officer . Is it 18 . 18. And its a funny thing being a a policeman, youre always being called, most of the time in peoples hour of need or at the worst time, you know. Jimmy sure. You can get a little not complacent with it, but you want to see the happier side to people sometimes and happy occasions. Theres memories of Close Encounters and bad encounters and you see situations where little kids become parents and some situations where one case where a kid was 9 years old, taking care of three other siblings. Cooking and handling it down. Another kid was 8 years old, his father had terminal cancer. And this kid was shining shoes. And making money to buy food and take care of his uncle and go to school. And then, after seeing that, you say, wow, little kids can do a lot. Jimmy i want to hear you tell the story about he told me so many stories, theres that one about the bar. Playing it real cool right now. Jimmy yeah, yeah. Ill show you how we did this. Jimmy no, because there was a guy, remember the bar . Can you come around . The shoutout . Tell the audience what happened, daddy. Tell him, set it up. In this scenario, what happens is, i happened to stop by a club to see a friend that was there. And there was a party going on. And after i came into the place, a fellow came in on the other side near the door. They had a jukebox on. He came in with a shotgun and he announced that it was a a stickup, he had another guy with him and the guy had a bag and a gun in his hand. And so he said, go down this line and everybody sitting at this bar, hand over your wallets and your jewelry. So this guy had a gun in his hand and the bag draped under it going down and getting the money and everything from everybody coming down the line. What am i going to do . This guy is coming down the line and the other guy down there has got the shotgun. Jimmy wait until you hear this story. So, as hes coming down getting peoples stuff, i said, oh man, i cant hand him my wallet because i got a badge and everything in there. So i said, im not going to give up the gun. So the guy comes down the line, so he gets over here. I take the wallet and i toss the wallet up on the bar. So as he looked at that, i spun this guy around and pulled the gun out shot the guy down here at the jukebox and then pushed him off and banged him. [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] jimmy honestly, cant even believe thats just one story out of many, many stories that you have and what you went through. Thank you so much for your service. Jimmy weve just got to identify which bear it is. Well, theres one that you play dead. Jimmy and theres one that you run. You run up a tree. And its like the romannosed side profile or something or a a shoulder hump. Jimmy that was too much pressure. Wait what happened . Where were you . Where were you . I was going up this trail and a couple of people come down the other way. Jimmy thats your first problem, first of all. Stay off the trail. Dont go into the wilderness. Jimmy just stay on the sidewalk. Yeah, absolutely. In vancouver, youre in the trail and people come down saying, oh, weve just seen a bear. You should probably turn back. But i was with a fellow brit, and to us, bears are these its paddington bear, you know, its the lovely [ laughter ] jimmy no he doesnt wear a jacket and a a hat. The bear is not in a raincoat, no he comes in his [ laughter ] jimmy no. Thats a different bear, totally. Cuddly toy. Jimmy no. We thought, it would be great to see one of those. And carry on up and then up ahead of us out jumps a bear, not looking very like paddington. And so as i was wondering what to do trying to work out which sort of bear it was, i hear this mans laugh and the bear literally pulls its head off and it was someone dressed up in a bear costume. Jimmy what is wrong with people . What is wrong . Wait, so this guy comes up. Well, it was on a stag day. It was on a Bachelors Party weekend and i think this whole thing had been contrived as some in joke. It was raining, i dont know how long they were there. [ laughter ] he really needed the raincoat. Jimmy if he was dressed like paddington, yeah, he wouldve been perfect. I want to talk about the good doctor because, man, oh man, congratulations. It is a giant. [ cheers and applause ] it is a major, major hit. Can you explain what the show is about if anyone has not seen it yet, but im sure everyone has. Yes, hopefully, i can. From my characters perspective, its this young surgical doctor, shaun murphy, who joined a prestigious hospital but because of his condition, he has autism. And also savant syndrome, his appointment is somewhat contentious. And so, i guess he has to prove his backers right but also the people who didnt like him wrong. Jimmy yeah, and its great and really connecting with people. Do you know why people are just loving it or flocking to this . Things people are saying to you, is it because its just positive . I think thats a large part of it. Hes got such a hopeful outlook on the world. I think hes a genuinely nice person who always tries to see the good in people and isnt judgmental, and i guess in a a time when there is so much negativity thats so easy to come by on a daily basis, having someone like shaun who is refreshingly optimistic is nice.
