Overnight at a packed indoor rally, President Trump breaking nevadas covid restrictions to court voters in the key battleground state speaking to a throng of mostly maskless supporters, his first indoor rally in nearly three months jimmy yeah, last night trump held a packed indoor rally in nevada, so it looks like the next longterm residency in las vegas will be the coronavirus. What is trump doing . You know how bad you have to mess up to be known as the guy who made a bad decision in vegas . [ laughter ] even old ladies smoking at the slot machines were like, i wouldnt set foot in there. [ laughter ] a lot of space work there. Questlove right. Jimmy i didnt realize i got to put it back on at the end. This was trumps first entirely indoor event in almost three months yep, the event was attended by 5,000 people who watched trumps tulsa rally and thought, that, but less safe [ laughter ] in response, the Trump Campaign was like, honestly after tulsa, we didnt think 50 people would show up. Rushmore but this is nice, if trump stays in office for another eight years he can have a big reunion for all the staffers when they get out of prison. Hes clueless. So i go. Between the distance, and his mask, and then my mask, and then this guy, the shield right here, i mean, theres at least like a few different layers of defense. So, i should be safe, i guess. Jimmy yeah, good idea. Tariq what if he faints . Jimmy wh tariq because doesnt he make himself woozy [ laughter ] because hes breathing all that in i mean, at this point, people probably thinking he has vertigo. So i say, you know its dangerous. I mean, how many people are coming, 20 do they even have that kind of space outside . Shes all, no, its inside, but theres only two couples allowed per room come on, it will be painless, we havent gone anywhere since march. So i said, all right, cool. Then she says, oh, by the way, theyre a shoesoff household. Jimmy oh, no, no tariq im fine if like one thing leads to another and peoples shoes just come off [ laughter ] but i hate if its mandatory which is a little crazy. Because i dont allow shoes in my own home. But, see, i offered the alternative of some nice, chic, decorative booties that cover the shoe jimmy you offer that tariq yeah, i offer that at home you come over, i give you options. This couple does not so, naturally im thinking, what socks am i going to wear . Jimmy yeah tariq because in my mind its going to be this big sock reveal upon arrival. But i digress. Jimmy please digress tariq so i go, i got to get some new socks. The one solid option i have is my goto paul smith midrise black with the playful colorful stripe jimmy yeah tariq pair, and that covers all the bases but it has a huge hole in it and you cant do go to someones house, especially for a sock event, wearing holie socks. Jimmy sock event tariq its offensive now its too late to do an amazon prime thing or anything and with covid, im not going to like a mall or anything [ laughter ] so i got to do a curby someplace to grab some socks tariq all right, wait, a a curby . So, im grabbing them on the way. Im literally going to keep it moving i stop at the store, some kid tosses the socks into the back seat when i pull over to pull them apart, theyre sewn together jimmy i know that, yeah, yeah so i ask michelle, hey, look into my bag, get a pair of scissors. Shes going through my bag theres the shoehorn theres the back scracher. My reading glasses Hand Sanitizer extra masks. Rubber gloves. Hazmat suit. Lip balm hot sauce. Glue gun ear and nose hair trimmer. Everything but the scissors. So, i just did a hail mary and i tried to just tear them apart. Ive fallen in love with my garden ive realized how lucky i am to have a garden. And i spent we had the most beautiful spring it was like the one blessing amidst this madness. And it grows along a railing in my garden and ive got a raised garden above that and i sort of had this idea that i wanted it to go up and go along this railing too, so i trained down two wires, and i literally watched this thing grow up the wire and it now goes up the wire and is growing along the top im more obsessed with that than anything else in my life at the moment, my wife jimmy and it smells beautiful too, wisteria. Jimmy yeah enjoy each Others Company every day as it came it was an unusual but kind of enforced, you know, lovein. Jimmy yeah you know, i was thinking about you because everyone started renting and buying the movie contagion. It was a movie about a Global Pandemic yeah. Jimmy made years ago is it eerie to even think about doing that movie now that were kind of living it . Kind of extraordinary, isnt it first of all, i found it a a little odd that everyone went back to watch that in the middle of the real thing jimmy yeah it was like youre like you just turn on the news, you dont need to watch it but at the same time it was yeah, well first of all, i think i wrote immediately to Steven Soderbergh and just said, you got it. You were there 10 years ago. And if im honest, i remember also one of the most kind of affecting memories or experiences on that film were the the doctors and the virologists who are advising us, all of whom were these extraordinary men, and they were all saying to us, this is a matter of when, not if and i remember leaving the whole experience thinking, oh, yeah, you know, look at me you touch yourself on the face 10,000 times a day we dont wash our hands. All of that stuff was sort of embedded in me but, of course, it slowly percolates away. As you say, here we are in it. So it is kind of unusual jimmy just bizarre its just the whole thing is just really bizarre. Even i agree with you, i was like i was guilty i actually rented the movie, as well and i go, why maybe i was looking for hints or answers of how its going to end . Yeah, thats right. Jimmy i was getting advice i was like oh, yeah, were living it, yeah. The last time you were on our show, we talked about the young pope, it was just out on hbo. You told me this story, we never got around to telling it, do you remember when Vice President joe biden visited you on the set he did. We were in you know, when a few people would come by and i always enjoyed meeting them dressed as the pope i mean, who doesnt, right you walk in especially when youve got like 20 cardinals around you and the vatican guard, its pretty into being all white. But the day he came, i think i was shooting in the apartment, and i was in my pajamas, so it wasnt quite as effective. What a charming man. He came with his whole family, if i remember, because i remember he had his grandchildren with him and he put me at ease immediately, because he literally i think he said Something Like its okay, ive just come from the real guy. And i was like, oh. Jimmy yeah, i just left the real pope. Yeah. I met the real deal, youre just an actor. Jimmy i love that. Because ill remember that story because its so funny. You think, oh, hes going to freak out, man. Yeah. Jimmy its like being in the vatican, in the popes bedroom. Yeah. Jimmy and like what . You have so much to talk about, so much coming out the new film called the nest, which was a sundance selection its in select theaters friday, on demand starting november 17th. Can you set up the film the nest . This is a film regarding a young couple who decide to leave the states and head to london in 1986, around the time of the economic boom and really its just a study of how a family are pulling in different directions, all trying to keep the family together all trying to make the family work but sort of tainted if you like, by the lure of greed, of money and not necessarily whats best for them its a really subtle, elegant, beautiful look at family life. And i had a great time making it carrie coon plays my wife, and as i said, sean durkin directs really wonderfully jimmy this new hbo series, limited series called the third day. Yes jimmy i dont know how to set it up without spoiling it. Okay, so there are two sections the first three are called summer, and its about a man dealing with terrible loss and grief. I dont think im giving anything away by telling you hes lost his son. And hes trying to sort of heal and remedy his life. He gets taken to an island by a young girl who is trying to do a good deed for and gets stuck on this island now, its an island, a real island off the coast of essex called osea which has this old roman causeway, so it only opens, this causeway at certain times of the day and we filmed on this island the community on the island and the culture of the island has been sort of elaborated but its really a sort of symbol of him trying to lose the him trying escape the isolation of his own grief, which is like the metaphor for the island and trying to get off this and away from this community. And then the second half, the other three, are called winter and theyre another perspective of the island in the community from a womans point of view, naomie harris. And then a live event was somehow linked to blur those lines of like, is this real is this not real is what im watching actually happening . Were gonna have a single camera well be there as actors, as performers, and the camera will follow us and the events are 12 hours live. So it will be a kind of combination of a sort of live event, a live piece of theater, a film in the a film done in one take, and at times you, you know, you may be watching people, like, doing some crazy, like, pagan dancing. And there may be scenes. There will be moments when its a series of the cross because its sort of a religious theme going through. Therell also be stuff that i actually dont know, because theyre going to be throwing things at me left, right, and center over 12 hours jimmy 12 hours i mean, that is i love that youre doing this. But we couldnt quite figure it out. I feel like when the first our first show idea was, like, we were in a cult, and we were escaping a cult it wasnt convoluted at all. Jimmy yeah and then we hide in a foster family then we, like, start attending middle school to just kind of, you know, hide, right . Jimmy oh yeah, it started out like that and then but then, like, right as we were, like, coming up with that idea, were like, oh, were escaping a cult, this is brilliant. Physically we are being transformed. Like, we wear breast straps, essentially. And then we wear like these tight lowrider jeans. Thats like so part of being in middle school, i feel like youre always hunching over, like, trying to hide these body parts that are just developing or coming at, you know, different speeds really fast jimmy interesting. When we were coloring the season, when we were doing posts, the colorist kept being like, so theres like a lot of wrinkles here, do you want me to just feather that out just take that out . I was very tempted to say yes. We didnt. Youll see 13yearold wrinkles all the time but the giveaway for me was, okay, mentally i can get into character, but physically my body kept giving out on me we had because you know, im 33 and maybe not as physically fit as most 33yearolds and we had this scene where we had to run for, like, i dont know, 10 feet . It felt like more. Jimmy that sounds that sounds tough really, really hard and i started getting these, like, crazy leg spasms and back spasms, which was really embarrassing because i had my braces on im, like, holding im, like, trying with all my might we kept being like, maya, slow down. And id be, like, walking. Im like, we got to, like, somehow speed this up. And then we ended up having, like, the most humiliating thing of all, popping a chair at the end of the 10 feet, with a bunch of ice packs and, like, three people to, like, catch me jimmy oh, my god, that is so sad its loosely based on your lives, the show, pen15. For those that havent seen it i thought it would be fun to see what you were actually like at that age. We have a photo of you from 13 i was wondering if you can give us a few superlatives. All the friends i was showing it to were, like, going far. They were like doing jimmy things a lot of things going far going far sexually like, they were doing things that were being talked about on the show, but i got, you know, shamed for showing it.
