Reporter walmart is making a prediction you rarely hear in retail, 40 online sales growth in the u. S. Next year. The retailer says consumers that shop both in its stores and on its website spend twice as much as those who buy only instore. We have to ensure were doing everything we can to earn our customers business. Reporter while walmarts online sales are growing rapidly, its starting from a relatively small base compared to sales instore. Growing a Digital Business is costly. An only busine business is a second business. At some point in time youll see those two businesses converge. Walmart is in the early stages of that. Reporter walmart is the countrys largest grocer. By the end of next year, it will double the number of Stores OfferingOnline Grocery ordering with store pickup, a major part of its plan to get new shopper dollars. If you can offer fresh produce, consumerables at the very best prices with a really good experience, whether it be pickup or delivery, then you have a good chances to build a longstanding relationship that you can then leverage to sell rex st of general merchandise. Reporter Procter Gamble declaring victory today in the culmination of a monthslong and ugly proxy fight against one of its top investors, nelson peltz, to keep him off the board. Peltz says the vote is too close to call. The margin, less than. 4 . Hes going to wait for a final tally before he concedes defeat. Either way, though, he says the message was sent to Big Companies around the world loud and clear. There might be arrows in my back temporarily. But were a pioneer. But you couldnt call them on the carpet. Thats changed. And thats changed for us. Reporter ceo and chairman david taylor had a chance to respond in his message to fellow ceos when it comes to his playbook in defeating an activist investor. Theres only one solution to this, to deliver better results. Weve started this process several years ago, deliver better results. The dow component pfizer is considering spinning off or selling its Consumer Health unit. The drug company says its begun a Strategic Review of that division that includes advil and chapstick among many others. The unit is one of the Largest Health care businesses of its type in the world. It makes up about 6 of pfizers total revenue. In response, the stock rose slightly in trading today. So is it a good thing for investors when a company like pfizer decides to get back to its roots or refocus on its core business . Chad morningenlander from washington crossin adviser joins us, welcome, chad. Thanks for having me. I understand you think it is a good thing when a company refocuses like this on its core business. Why is that . Well, its the evolution of a conglomerate thats slowly starting to break off. The Management Team is focusing their attention on the properties that deliver high returns. And thats what youre seeing with honeywell, pfizer, and others that are going to come out in 2017, as well in 2018. So i believe that overall, that this is a positive step for not only pfizer but also for the other conglomerates. I was amazed to see that it was only that the Consumer Health care business, chad, is only like 6 of pfizers revenue. What this is is really basically, isnt it, a big bet on high end, high margin, high growth pharmaceuticals yo got pricing power. A chapstick will remain 98 cents for a long time. No doubt about that. Now, theyre going to sell that for a hefty premium. The Consumer Staples side of the market is really selling at an elevated valuation at this point. Theyre going to redeploy the capital they get from that and either buy an early stage suite of health care or pharmaceuticals, or theyre going to buy back shares with that, or go to cap x to actually increase their portfolio. It would also give me tthem money, if they have a lot of outstanding debt, i dont know how much they have, but they could pay off that debt or refinance it at a lower rate. Without a doubt, youll continue to see that as well. Many of these multinationals are going to Sell Properties and then pay down their debt or buy back stock to optimize their balance sheet. But overall, what youre going to see going into 2018, many multinationals will continue to go through their portfolio, look to sell their properties or spin them off, and you have to keep in mind for a lot of private equity firms, they have a tremendous amount of funding capability to go buy these. Real quick, chad, bottom line me. If i own or im interested in a company that is slimming down this way, is it a good sign, yes or no . I would say its a great sign. We would be buying honeywell. We own honeywell, we own pfizer, we own walmart. We would continue to be buyers of these three companies. Excellent, thank you, chad, we app. On wall street today, sue, walmart and pfizer, just talking about them, gave the stock market a lift. E dow did close a we mentioned earlier, closing in now on 23,000. The blue chip dow index up 69 points to 22,830. Nasdaq added seven. The s p gained nearly six. As the stock market has moved to new highs, there are some stocks that are attracting fresh interest. Bob pisa reporter weve seen a record rally in all the major indices. Investors have even turned their interest to some very strange underperforming parts of the market. The latest example are microcap stocks. Thats right, the iwc symbol has been around for a decade. It only owns the smallest of publicly traded companies, the bottom thousand of the small cup russell 2,000 index and the remaining stocks that are even smaller, were talking companies with typical market caps between 50 million and 300 million. These microcaps have outperformed the Broader Market recently. They hit historic highs as well. Whats going on . Rising rates and a tax cut trade. These are positive for not only small cap stocks but microcap stocks. Markets are lifting across the board. So many microcaps have a good chance of graduating into small cap indexes like the russell 2,000. That would drive wider ownership. Second, sector exposure. The iwc is 25 weighted to financials and 25 weighted to health car hot spaces. I can see momentum traders adding this to their broader stake to get a little bit of edge in performance. Finally, theres this whole etf wrapper thing. You allow it to be traded on platforms provided by brokerage firms, one of the relatively safe ways to get into these darker, less exposed corners of the market like microcap. Im bob pisani for nightly Business Report at the new york stock exchange. Ahead, flying under the radar. The chip maker today saying it built a powerful new computer that can turn semi Autonomous Cars into fully driverless vehicles, technology that some are calling a game changer. That sent its shares up to a record. Over the past year the stock has been making impressive gains in a very competitive industry, in part because of nvidias ability to transform itself from a video game chip maker to a leader in arti what we thought was going to be Science Fiction for years to come is becoming reality as we speak. Reporter nvidias latest advance, called pegasus, speeds up its drive px platform already used by the likes of toyota, audi, tesla, biaidu, an zf in the race to develop a fully autonomous vehicle. Here to talk more about nvidia, its growth story, and where it may grow from here is stacy razgon, Semiconductor Analyst from burns research. Good to be here, thank you. A lot of investors are concerned about coming to a party late. This has been a heck of a party. The company is firing on all chips, if you will. Is there still room to run . Yeah, i think theres probably still room to run. This is a company that is exposed to virtually every high growth and attractive area in the Semiconductor Market today, whether its artificial intelligence, data center, autonomous driving, frankly even gaming is a very good market. Theyre exposed to it all. How much in front of you everybody else do you think nvidia is . You know, they are in front by a wide margin. They have been investing in this space for many, many years. Many of their other competitors are actual of playing catchup. Theyve been developing not just the hardware but also the Software Development environment that goes along with it that enables the programmers to write. Its been forming an ecosystem. Theyve been doing this for close to ten years. Its creating almost a de facto standard in many of these markets today. Their competitors are catching up. In many cases theyll be coming up against a barrier that this has created for nvidia. In one of your recent reports you say you think it is possible that the stock might take a little bit of a breather after its run. But you give it more room to run eventually. Why might it take a pause that refreshes and then move . Any time a stock is up 80 to 100 in less than a year, its likely to take a pause. If you go back to their last earnings report, the stock took a little bit of a breather momentarily, only because the data center business, it grew tremendously year over year. But expectations were even a little bit more. I think many investors, though, want to own the stock. Many of them are waiting for pullbacks. Frankly that little bit of a dip didnt last very long. It got bought as investors came in. So what are you watching for that might trip up the company, or might signal that theres someone else in that particular space thats gaining on them . Sure. I mean, there are a number of competitors today, both from Chip Companies as well as cloud vendors, Companies Like google, for example. But i think what people need to be aware of is, were almost in the first atbat of the first inning right now. My biggest worry today is not really so much competition, its mother the pace of market adoption. When you have an exponential market, when youre at the beginning, people tend to do two things. They tend to overestimate well get to the knee of that curve. Once we get to the knee, they underestimate how steep the ramp will be. Everybody is accelerating adoption. Thats a good thing. What a great story. Stacy razgon, thank you. Coming up, is the Corporate Jet business ready for takeoff . These are the newest wings for the high fliers of the corporate world. Weve got a good long lead list of individuals that are coming out to the show, that are going to look at some of the new products that weve been able to demonstrate. Reporter these jets may be spectacular. But business jet sales have not been as impressive. In fact, theyve failed to climb back to the lofty levels seen before the recession. And this year, deliveries are expected to edge lower. With stock prices and corporate profits near record highs, why have corpora jet sales failed to soar . Industry leaders say potential buyers are waiting for the u. S. Economys growth to kick into a higher gear. What were seeing is kind of 1 and 2 growth year over year. And i think that were expecting, particularly as the economy continues to grow over 3 , thats usually a key area, over 3 growth leads to some pretty strong growth in the Business Aviation community.
